For the ones that I made in memory of my father who passed
away I just copied some pictures using a good quality photo
copy paper(not too stiff though). I cut them out in a circle
around the part of the picture that I was using. Make sure
you poke a few tiny holes into the picture somewhere where
they won't be noticed like in the corners of the eyes to let
any air bubbles escape. Just add a little glue at a time so
you don't get the paper too wet and add more if needed.
It takes a little practice but you will get the hang of it.

Yes, I do want to use a clear ball with a picture inside. I want to make memory ornaments for Christmas in honor of my daughter. This weekend I thought I could practice making a few ornaments for my husband's office. He likes the Minnesota Vikings. My first thought was that I could put the viking helmet on transparency film or photo paper. And I am not sure of the ins and outs of trying that.

But then I thought of this:. Someone gave me a few sheets of the film but they are for a black and white copier machine. I need to print in color with an inkjet printer. Could I print the helmet on photo paper, cut it out, and glue it to the center of the film. It would look like the helmet is floating in the middle of the ornament. That could be cool. If the helmet is approximately 1 to 1-1/2 inches, would I still be able to roll the film up enough without damaging the the small photo that is glued on and still get it into the ornament?

I am still looking for any other instruction or hints & tips for when I make the other ornaments.

I have the Carol Duvall segment where she demonstrated the memory ornaments and I liked the one that looked like a floating photo. It's only going to be wrapped loosely around a pencil long enough to stick it into the globe. The helmet shouldn't be a problem.

Her tip: Don't cut the photograph or acetate until you've tried your circle out with scrap paper. Simply cut a hole in the center of a little square of paper. Put it over the ornament and see if the paper rests like a perfectly fitting skirt on the center of the globe. If the ornament slips through the hole in the paper... the hole is obviously too big... if the paper sits higher than center... it's too small. It really does need to be just right for the pictures/acetate to rest perfectly inside the globe. But once you get it right you have the perfect stencil for the rest of your ornaments.

When we made them we used sepia tone photographs photocopied onto the rough side of transparencies. We used a laser printer. We then decorated the tops of the glass balls to look Victorian. They were very elegant.

My favorite is of my granddaughter's first Christmas... I put a lock of her hair in the globe along with the little beaded bracelet she was wearing in the photo. I sealed the opening so it wouldn't fall out when stored.

They're VERY easy to make. Have fun :)
