Made this for little man's 8th birthday today

He's 8 today! I wanted to make him a cake but hubby wanted to buy one. I finally decided, late last night, to make a special one for him. Since it's a Wii birthday party, I made a Wii controller cake to go with the theme. Little man is very happy with it.

Julie , We had a blast. Always do when this bunch gets together. They got here at noon and didn't leave until 6:00 We ate and laughed and ate and talked and ate and ate.... I feel awfull.....uck... You have to remember that we all had our gifts bought and wrapped, ready to give to each other on the second Tues. of Dec.. So much of our stuff was geared "Christmas" I got a snowman that has a stick and wire fence that is attached to the snowman's body . He has "Cold Hands Warm and a Heart" sewed on the front of him. cute. A candle on a pedestal. Some flavored hot chocs. A walnut little rocker ( I collect small chairs) A pair of mittens made of an antique "crazy quilt" they are tied together with jute rope. A pickle jar covered with material that has hearts apliqued on the front. Makes a real cute canister jar. A really cute thing, it is rusty metal about 6 foot high you stick into the ground . At the top it is shaped kinda like a Christmas tree with a cutout that is filled with glass in the shape of a tree. There is a "shelf" in back that a candle sits on. When the candle burns, it shines through the glass. Real different. I like it. There was a lot of other stuff , little things Yes they did get homemade things from me, but they love them. I think that is why they always make sure I am invited, hehe . Just to get the homemade things. None of them make crafts. FUN DAY!!! Patti

Good evening, everyone! BJ, I have to ask: does your boss chase you around the desk? LOL Raeanne, welcome back to reality! I overheard a woman at Curves this morning talk about how she's dropped a clothes size since using the Wii Fitness stuff. Keep up the good work! QOD: I just roll out of the bed in the mornings and dress for working out. I don't let myself think otherwise! (There are some exceptions to going straight to Curves though.) I know that it's the best way for me to lose weight and sizes. I had a dr.'s appt. this morning (first thing) to go over my lab results. My numbers weren't too terribly bad after all, but I have a ways to go yet. My dr. was very pleased that I'm doing Curves and TOPS though, so he didn't fuss about my weight today. He's really supportive which is so nice. BJ, I always wear some kind of red hat to the get-togethers. I have a red straw hat and purse, a red felt cowgirl hat, a dressy felt hat, a baseball cap with a Red Hat woman sewn on it, and a sun visor with whatever I think of to put on it. We have to wear some kind of hat to the events, but I can't wait to take them off because I just don't like wearing them! But, I do enjoy mixing and mingling with the members, so it's worth it. My 2 DGDs are coming over Saturday morning for the weekend. They haven't been here since Christmas, and they want to see their Papa and Lucky (doggy). We'll drive them home Sunday afternoon and do some "big-city" shopping while over there. One quick brag: I weighed in 8.7 pounds less at my TOPS meeting on Wednesday. That's two weeks worth of weight loss, but I was so shocked and happy. I'm also back to cooking and eating healthy, so I guess it's working. I'm working on Patti's birthday card this evening. Good Morning, No school today because of Good Friday. I slept until 7:30! Very late for me. When I woke up though, I was so confused it took me a minute to figure out what was going on! Maddie, congratulations on the car. I am so happy for you. I know that it is something you have wanted and how great is it to not have a car payment!!!!!! QOD: Candy, anything chocolate. I have to agree with Maddie on just a good old fashioned Hershey Bar, or Hershey kisses. I love to just let them melt in my mouth. OK, I am going to stop talking now. LOL Dee, how are your arms? That is great that you have access to a nurse to come check on you like that. We also had a nice little storm here this week. The snow stuck, but didn't last. It is gone now, but still only about 35 degrees and I know that it will last because it is Lacrosse season and the games are all outside! Suzanne I can't believe that you got so much snow. Is it still on the ground? Raeanne, very cool about the watch. Suzanne how thoughtful. I love to come home and find packages waiting for me. I remember one day the UPS driver came to the door and I must have looked excited until I saw that the package was for DH. I didn't say a word but my expression must have said it all because the driver said "They can't all be for you". LOL Lynn, I am sorry to hear about DH wallet. I also had my bag stolen (a long time ago), but the aggravation and anxiety that goes along with it is terrible. I hope things are ok. QOD: Any thoughts on this weeks American Idol? I love bringing this up, ;-) All I have to say is I was sorry to see another talented singer go and a mediocre one stay. I also need to retract a comment I made before about all of this attention "at the expense of a 17 year old boy". I think that he and his family have embraced it to the point of being obnoxious. Someone needs to guide this boy (and his family) back into reality. He is going to be a joke for a very long time. I got a million errands to do today so I am signing off. Have a great one. My Grandparents made me the man I am today!

Hi, I read your post with interest as we are in the process of taking on our 20 month old Grandson. His Father (our son) and Mother are both on drugs. Our Son is currently in jail and is back to being a normal person who you can have a conversation with. He doesn't know we are taking on his son as he has no contact with him and becomes very angry about the situation. He would dearly love to see him but before being in jail his girlfriend (the Mother) and he had a very volatile relationship and the 3 children were taken by child protection services. The older two (different fathers) were placed with their maternal grandparents, who thought it would be short term. Unfortunately their daughter is still on drugs and only maintains spasmodic contact, which is getting less. Our grandson was placed in foster care, he was 3 weeks old at the time. He is with a lovely family who have two teenagers and two other foster children aged 6 and 4 and our grandson 20mths. We didn't take on our grandson at 3 weeks, hoping the parents would come good. That is obviously not going to happen for the mother and my son would have to jump through hoops to prove he has drug taking and anger issues under control. My questions are "how important is it for my grandson to be with family? Should he be allowed to stay where he is happy and loved? (my fear here is he will become part of the "foster" system and be parcelled around). If we don't take him will he grow up thinking the family didn't want him? We will have him before he turns 2, are we being selfish to take on a toddler at our age ?(54) We just want what is best for him. The overall question I suppose is "how important is family ?"

Thank you all! He's having fun. We had plans for snow sliding and ice hockey but they are more into the Wii. I don't mind. Save me some energy! LOL

By the way, anyone knows how to make the image smaller when using Photobucket? I sized down the image size but it did nothing to the canvas size. Thanks again!

I've never seen a Wii, let alone a controller but my daughter was just describing hers to me this evening.

I'm not sure about doing it through Photobucket but here's how to size it when you post it. After the img src="http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/0903/althetrainer/Wiicake.jpg";

add a space and then size it how you want. This photo is 600 wide by 800 high. To make it about 1/4 the size, 150x200 add width="150" and a space, then height="200" and it'll look like this:

html would be:
img src="http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/0903/althetrainer/Wiicake.jpg"; width="150" height="200" with the brackets on either side which I'm sure you know.

To make it about 1/10, width should be 60 and height 80 and you'll get:

html would be:
img src="http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/0903/althetrainer/Wiicake.jpg"; width="60" height="80" with the brackets on either side.

Hope that makes sense.

Thank you, thank you all! Little man did have a great time. The party was small but hey as long as he had Wii games and the Wii cake, he didn't care! LOL

Terri, geez... thought making one was time consuming enough LOL I would never have patience to make all those cookies!

Thanks Annie! He loved the cake. I didn't make a big one because the party turned out to be very small. Regardless the size of the party, he had fun. Here's a picture of him (in the Flames hockey jersey) sticking up his fingers "I am 8!" :-) Al

Awesome cake and I've made more than a few in my time. I'm sure it was MUCH better than a store bought one and certainly more appreciated.

And littleman sure looks like one happy camper. Cute kid!!
