Pesto has a bitter taste

What did I do wrong? The olive oil was fresh as were the pine nuts and fresh grated Parmesan. The basil was frozen, but still bright green and didn't have an after-taste by itself. The only thing I can think is that I over-did the garlic cloves.

Could that be it? I was determined to use lots of garlic because it was starting to sprout. I don't remember having this problem in the past. I put it all in ice cube trays and will freeze it. Could it possible lose that bitterness when it is warmed up?

I made so much of it to put in the freezer and am very sad about the result!
