Get the serial number and call SZ.Tell them you are considering buying the unit used.

They will let you know if it has had warranty work or reported stolen.

If it checks out pay with credit card through paypal.

That doubles your protection.

No, I hadn't gotten an answer from the seller. It seemed fishy, don't you think? A $15k practically new item for $5k? Wonder it was listed wrong...maybe should have been $15k?

There is another for $7500 but with no window. I gotta have the window.

FWIW, I would not have bought a $5K item from someone with no feedback at all as a seller (that feedback is all 1 yr old and was feedback as a buyer). I also think $60 sounds low for shipping, not that I am any shipping fee expert. So I think you were prudent. Maybe you lost out on a good deal, but maybe you saved yourself a big headache.

The only real way to protect yourself is to go see the item in person.

If you can't then you shouldn't bid on it.

All significant discounts involve risk.

Perfect item plus perfect seller equals market price at minimum. Sometimes it requires a small premium.

If you are highly risk averse,go down to local SZ dealer and plunk down your $15K plus local sales tax.

I'm very careful about the sellers I buy from on ebay for even small amounts. But $5K is waaaay to much to risk with an unknown seller, IMHO. I wouldn't even be tempted.

You are not risking $5k.

You are risking the hastle of invoking ebay buyer protection/filing CC fraud claim. Ebay buyer protection covers entire purchase price plus shipping.

I have saved over $10k on appliances so far and only had to file a claim with ebay once.Took a couple of weeks and got my money back.

Purchased a hood with blower that cost $4500 plus 8.75% sales tax at my local authorized dealer for $900 delivered to my door from seller with zero feedback that was just starting his appliance liquidation business. It was absolutely perfect.

I'm not knocking ebay appliance purchases either. I bought my built-in KA fridge, Sharp MW drawer, and KA warming drawer from the bay all much cheaper than local retail and all without issue.

That said, Bee's deal on such a high-end appliance did seem too good to be true. I wouldn't have gambled on it with that seller.

If the seller refuses to give serial number,or Sub Zero says they have tried to fix same problem multiple times(i.e. LEMON),or it is in fact stolen then move on.

But I guess if it is stolen the seller would refuse to give serial number.

Is there anyway to tell what happened to it? I look at my "watch list", but it just says "ended", not "sold". I think it got pulled.

I certainly believed there was something wrong with the whole thing. But geez, it was THE ONE!
