A corner range takes up a lot of wall space...48" of cabinet space on each side. So, if you have limited cabinet space you may not want to do this. You also may have to build a diagonal wall b/w the two sides. There may be a way around this, but I'm not sure. I suggest you post your layout here and let us help you w/it. Here are some pictures I made up for someone else asking about the amount of room a range/cooktop + hood would take up: Note: Normally, the recommendation is that your range hood be 6" wider than your range. So, if you have a standard 30" range, the hood would be 36". 30" Range/36" Hood: 30" Range/30" Hood: Even w/the smaller wall (but not so attractive wall, IMHO!), you still lose 48" of cabinet space on each wall.

Hi there! While it isn't the most common, there have been times we have made a very long/large range hood and only need a certain size insert (for example 10' wide hood, only needing a 48" liner), so most often what we would do is install a stainless steel panel to allow everything to look smooth and coherent with the liner. Some people opt to add lighting to the "dead" panel space, and I would definitely recommend making sure you get the proper CFM for your space, but yes you can have an insert smaller than the range hood. If the "misaligned" hood still properly overlaps the rising and expanding cooking plumes, it doesn't functionally matter how the hood is oriented. If the hood is undersized, as so many are, the missed portion of the plume at one end is somewhat made up for by the less missed portion of the plume on the other end. For best results with a less than expansive hood entry aperture over a cooktop, it should be aligned with the burners/hobs, and not the physical cooktop. For ranges, which are often rather symmetrical, then best alignment would be evenly overlapping the range width dimension. Aesthetics would tend to want alignment with the range, but I'm not sure a quarter of an inch would be an aesthetic outrage. Other factors balancing the hood such as cabinetry, ceiling lights, etc. might make an offset hood appear aligned.

@A H - a hood that is 6" wider than the cooktop is actually the recommended installation. Many people do not have the upper space for the wider hood. But it sounds like you do, so you should get the 36" hood over your 30" cooktop.
