36' Wolf Gas Cooktop - do you really need a opening that is 35'

The specs say that the counter opening needs to be 35" X 19 1/4". The specs also show that the overall dimension are 36" X 21". Lastly the installation instructions indicate that the lip (the part that stays above the counter is 7/8" all around. Based on these specs, shouldn't the minimum width counter opening be 34 1/4" instead of 35"? (36" less 7/8" from each side).

I have granite countertops and a cooktop opening that is 34 5/8" wide" If my math is right the necessary opening for the cooktop should be 34 1/4" and should fit in this opening. Otherwise I need to get a granite guy to come out and cut the opening wider which will cost $250.

Does anyone have this cooktop? Can you measure how wide the bottom of the cooktop is?

Thanks,
