Our new kitchen is finished

We would like to share the final results of the appliance choices for our kitchen renovation project. This was a project that took two years for planning and two months to execute. The planning went back and forth between designs that required lots of demolition and designs that were basically a refreshing of the original kitchen. We ended up somewhere in the middle. There were also changes going on in the neighborhood (tear-downs of older homes for new McMansions;) we wanted to make sure that what we did would still have value.

Although infrequent posters, we did spend a lot of time in this forum. The help that came from the members of these forums; whether they knew it or not; was invaluable.

Without further ado: here's what we ended up with:

- Monogram ZET1SMSS - Single convection 30" oven.

- Monogram ZSC1001KSS - Advantium oven (120v.) The new 240v came out right after we made our order; didn't see any really great advantage in upgrading; especially since it would have meant pulling a new circuit.

- Monogram ZHU30RSMSS 30" induction cooktop. We love this; and we love the fact that it is not black, given our other color choices.

- Monogram ZV925SLSS island hood.

- Jenn-Air JS42SEDUDB 42" built-in refrigerator. The original design was planned around a KitchenAid built-in. The model that we wanted (it was all about the handles) was unavailable at the time we were ready to install. The Jenn-Air cost more, but had exactly the same specs as the KitchenAid (it's essentially the same box.) The plus side turned out that the handles matched our oven choices. We went with this over Monogram because the interior storage seemed to work out better. Again; a new model for the Monogram refrigerator was coming out; we might have rethought this, but we are very happy with the Jenn-Air.

We kept our original dishwasher; it was a KitchenAid that is only a few years old. We were able to replace the original black door panel with a stainless one; that kept the look of all the appliances consistent.

Help with faucet with a copper sink

Part of the answer to your question depends on the "finish" of the copper sink. If you go with a darker patina, oil rubbed bronze works pretty well. ...and if you go with a "medium" (Copper Sinks Online calls theirs "Cafe Natural") there are some faucets out there in an "Antique Copper" that coordinates well with those. The key word is "coordinate" since these sinks are hand hammered copper and the faucets are usually bronze with a finish. Here is how ours turned out: You can see the "specs" by clicking on the photo. We bought both the sinks and faucets from the same company (and got a nice discount by doing so) and they made recommendations on faucet finishes that would coordinate with our sinks. We are still really happy with both our copper sinks and the faucets (they have been installed now for a few years). Accessorizing new kitchen

If you've repainted the kitchen, installed some tile for a backsplash, and even installed a new floor. But something is missing from your kitchen decor. does the range really need to be 3 inches from the wall?

We just went through this with our plumber. We also have a bluestar. After it was hooked up to the gas I came home to find it sitting about 2" from the wall - not acceptable. It looked horrible. There is a space in the back of the range for the gas line. It's on the lower left. (as you're looking from the front.) The line has to come out of the floor - our guy had installed the line in the wrong bay (of joists from the basement) so that it wouldn't fit into the space on the bak of the stove and sit flush. DH had to work with him to think outside (his) box and together they finally got it right. But no, it should not sit off the wall - I don't know what your situation is and why they put the gas line where they did but there is a way to fix it, I'm sure. Insist they do it right.

Dark panel front refrigerator with shiny aluminum trim

Our new kitchen is almost finished. We have a built-in Kitchenaid refrigerator with custom cabinet paneling on it. The problem is that there is a narrow row of shiny aluminum (?) trim showing all around it that is really noticeable against the dark cabinetry. Can this trim be painted? Or is there another solution?

That's an amazing transformation. You were so smart to take such well-targeted "befores" so that each area's rehab is perfectly documented. The knife holder idea is smashing.
