Any Ideas What To Do With Empty Bear Honey Bottles???

You guys have been so helpful before. Any ideas on what to do with those cute Bear Honey bottles when they are empty. Kids are grown so can't use them as bathtub toys, but they are too cute to throw away. Storage ideas?

glue, paint, water, cooking oils

I just wouldn't mix all of those in one. :)

Only thing I could think of was travel bottles for Shampoo, body wash, etc. They're bigger then the too tiny trial size, smaller than full size.

Or maybe to store string in? wind it around a thin piece or cardboard or something so it will fit in the bottle, then feed it through the opening in the cap. Might have to notch out the cap so it will close properly.

And here's a really weird one (I couldn't sleep last night) make string lights. Cut the bottom of the bottles off , and attach/glue each light through the cap. How strange is THAT?! Colored lights would be really interesting!

Also sand art containers, but you said your kids are grown so that won't work!

I doubt you'll want to use them for the cat food. First, I don't think the smell will come out very well. But I also read that there's a difference between plastics intended for use with food and other items. They say the vitamins from the food will be absorbed into the plastic from the cat food. Of course, I store dog food in a cat litter bucket, but by the time I read that, I had been using the same bucket for several years, so I figured the plastic probably stole it's fill of nutrients well before I ever learned that. Also, with 2 large dogs, that bucket's gone in about 10 days. Not so with the cat food. Good luck with the picky cat. I have 2. Feeding them in a way that makes them happy (and not yelling at me) is an ever-changing challenge. If it makes you feel any better, you could possibly use the cat food he won't eat as a protein fertilizer for your lawn...

The problem with microwaving honey is that a microwave creates hot spots and can overheat the honey, mess up the taste and destroy beneficial enzymes. Although I guess it really doesn't matter much unless it's fresh non pasteurized honey. The honey you get in stores isn't nearly as good; because of the pasteurization. I prefer stealing directly from the bees by the 5 gallon bucket. :)

Susanzone5: A few years ago I went for a hike in the Windsor NY are. It was Christmas week. There was spotty areas of snow on the ground. The air was bite your cheeks cold but the sun felt warm. I was walking and stopping every now and then. I stopped at the base of the mountain to look around. Just as I stopped a medium size bear ran up the hill into some spruce trees. She ran from a blow down not 15 yards from where I stopped. As I looked around I saw movement from the other side of the tree.8 short black legs turned into two small cubs. I watched them for several minute. The mother didn't go far. I walked out around where they were. I walked an old snow covered logging road just above where mom ran.She never crossed the road.Again this was Christmas week.Bears in this area do not always den up at a set time. Males will wonder on warm or sunny winter days looking for food.I don't believe a mother bear would den next to a blow down that offers sparse cover.Males will den in any spot that looks comfy.It looks like your bird feeder might not be safe except for the dead of winter.

My all-time-favorite house gift is a wine bottle with a string of small white Christmas-type lights stuffed inside with the plug end outside the bottle. Then a couple of grape clusters are hung on the neck with rafia, ribbon or whatever. They made beautiful nightlights in a bathroom and are charming sitting most anywhere. I've also seen them with a colored light string and a Christmas theme on top (as opposed to a grape cluster). Also I saw one this week with a small hole drilled towards the bottom of the bottle where the lights were inserted so the plug-end was neatly down there.

Nikki, the stringed lights idea is an iteresting one, but you'd have to be careful about fires, don't you think?

I like the sand art idea! Maybe they could be donated to a local daycare or after school program?

Yeah, I thought if the bottoms were cut out it would be ventilated enough. The newer LED string lights would be best. I wouldn't leave them unattended if using regular string lights :)
