Crafters Needed For Craft Show

Does anyone know how I can locate crafters for a holiday craft show? The show is in Nov., in St. Clair Shores, Michigan (southeast part of Michigan). We've been advertising everywhere and have generated a lot of response from consumers. But have found only a few crafters interested in being vendors. Any suggestions?

Go to the website "primmart.com" - there you'll find a wonderful group of crafters who mostly do primitive/country crafts (yes holiday crafts) but a lot of the members have stores, sell online, in eBay and also do shows. You'll have to be a member of the site to participate or post any msg, easily done. Unless you're a member, you won't be able to see all of the pages/forums in the site. Once you become a member though, go to the "online community" and there is a new post asking for lists of upcoming shows, etc.

OMG... you guys are so talented!... cake baking and decorating is definitely a craft!... a talented one!.. your array of talents is amazing... I can crochet... have made a number of afghans over the years... now for the grandchildren.. (Oh.. did I say that!?? so what, I'm over 21)... can I knit... well, kind of.. as long as I don't have to rip out my work to find a mistake!.. that's where it ends... have a quilt... gorgeous king size... started in 1976... when my youngest was an infant... so it's all basted together... and one motif (Dresden Plate) has been hand quilted.. and there it awaits my attention!.. before I leave the Earth hopefully)... and not sure what else... lots of plant collections over the years... many successes... depending on life at the time... many failures... but I digress!.. Brad... you're creative inspiration is amazing... you're off to a great start... I'm not familiar with the "movie" though I have heard of the name... and your "tray"... is showing signs of blood and ghoul!... Is that an adequate description... ? Looking so forward to your ongoing project!... you are very talented... please keep the pix coming! Oh yes.. Stacie, how on earth did you control yourself and not buy "something" at all? I could never have done that. Thanks for the info on what crafters were selling. I went to a biggie craft show in my town last weekend and it's just not the same anymore. It used to be super huge with so many crafters doing different homemade things. This year and last, it was jewelry, jewelry and more jewelry. I'm not saying jewelry is not a craft but most of it was not homemade. I did buy some homemade gingerbread felt ornaments I will use in decorative Xmas boxes and a snowman one. And two homemade felt mittens with snowmen in them and some greenery. Very reasonably priced is the name of the game when I buy at the shows. Some crafters go way overboard in their prices. I love country decorating and the one crafter who had homemade primitive country crafts, well, some of it was very sloppily done and not worth the money. I think she could have done a better painting job. Don't get me wrong, some items were fantastic but for what it was, way too high priced (i.e. for an old board and some paint on it with a simple saying). I look for things I can't make myself or things I don't do for crafts. I was thinking of having a table next year and doing a lot of things I didn't see there this year - and keep the prices within reason my first setup and see how I do. Yes, what Chris said! I've proved this fact over and over that standing up and talking to people sells your items. Yes you're gonna be tired at the end of the day and your feet will hurt, but you ARE working and you'll have money in your pocket to prove it. And I second the thought to have your prices CLEARLY visible, and also even signs stating what your items are. Some people are really clueless and need things spelled out plain and clear. Also perhaps a sample of what to do with the product if it is something unique or unusual. Depending on what you're selling, I have found people will not come IN to my booth if I use a U-shape display or a display where they must "come inside". For the items I sell, (survival kits, gag gifts, accordion scrapbooks and other paper crafts) I need to have a straight line of tables that they MUST walk past. If they HAVE to walk by, something usually catches their eye enough to stop and then they're hooked. I found this out through trial and error, and you will learn many things this way also. I have rearranged tables in the middle of a show when things just weren't working and people just weren't looking, and always go back to the "in their face, have to walk by me" display. I'm guilty of the same thing when I cruise through a show. Unless I see something very interesting, I do not go "in" to booths. I don't know if it is just laziness or what, but this is just something that I have observed and learned from. Arlene

danaoh,I have not gone to the craft show in Mason yet.. it isn't until Dec 6th and I have never been there before even though it is the 3rd one they have had.. I will let you know if I get the chance to go.. Huggy

Thanks for the advice! I will look into it right away. Phish, with your message about your friend, I was wondering if I would be allowed to leave my email address, in case someone else wants to contact me. Would that be against the rules? I don't want to do anything wrong.

Lots of people put their email address here--don't know of any rule against it.

Allot of us have included our email address on "My page", you could also do that.

Good luch with the show, hope you find lots of crafters.

Go to www.craftlister.com and list the show in the EVENTS section. (It's free) That's where you want to go for exhibitors.
Make sure you COMPLETELY fill out the form. That way any exhibitor that is looking for shows in that area will be sure to see it.

Are you located anywhere near HOLLY, Michigan?

That's the home base of the largest craft show promoter in the country. They do shows all over the USA, from New York to Florida to Colorado to California. I personally know exhibitors that have made over $10,000 in one weekend at their shows.

Thanks, Christopherh. I had already posted on Craftlister, but didn't realize I should also post on Eventlister. Their site seems pretty thorough, and I'm impressed! I've even gotten a couple requests for apps from there.

Didn't know about the promoters in Holly. Don't live close to them; live near Lake Huron. If you don't mind, would you please send me their name. Maybe they wouldn't mind giving some advice? Thanks!

Perhasps you can check the local Farmer's Market - I sell crafts at our local FM. Perhaps there are crafters there too - also check out the local fabric stores (don't forget Wal*Mart_) and ask if ypou cn put up a flyer for your show - Good luck with this endever - once a few crafters hear about your show - the word should fly around town!

Thank you for the excellent advice! I was going to leave flyers @ several businesses and stores, but so many of them don't allow it anymore. Especially Wal-Mart. Well, I'm going to drive around and see what I can do. I'm determined the show will go on! LOL Thanks for the support! You will probably be hearing from me often, as the show gets closer. Any advice is always welcome!! I'll let everyone know how it goes.

Go to Craigs List (link below). Then click on arts and crafts and post your message.
