I am glad you guys liked the pics. Wendy, I didn't really have to do anything to the butterfly. As soon as this plant flowered, they were just all over it. Even when I got up close they didn't move. The flowers are kind of small and the foliage is big and tall. Probably 6 feet tall. Bug, you are too good on the plant ID:) I didn't know a cynara was an artichoke, but now that you mention it, it sure looks like one. I got the green pot at Lowe's. It was marked down to 8.99, so I got two. Deanne, my mondarda does eventually get mildewy, but I can't help it, I really like it, and it likes my yard. Plus the hummingbirds come every year, and I don't have to fill up my hummingbird feeder.. which I ususally don't get to. D.

Thanks to all for my Birthday wishes....Hubby took me to Tellers Chophouse (one of my favorites)...We had cocktails before and the chef made homemade rosemary garlic & evoo potato chips served warm..yummy! then we had a fantastic Rib eye dinner (the one i always talk about with the Truffle Butter...to die for) afterwards we went to and Irish Pub (Shandon Court) met about 15 friends and danced until 1:30!!! Still recouping from the late nite we had sooooooo much fun & Laughs!

How did I miss this one? Happy birthday, FOAS!! Sounds like today will be the fun day, except the going to the doctor part. Enjoy that boy of yours. The birthdays come around fast and days like this are precious. I think of you every time I use my see-saw garlic mincer, and I use it a lot.

Oh, yes, I'm feeling far better today than a few days ago. I was really ambushed by the blues this year for some reason. It's been tough year in a few respects. Financially: I had much less freelance work than I need to support us. So there was a lot of added stress. All is fine now, though. Romantically: Also disheartening. But I am stunningly healthy and I have wonderful children who only make me a little crazy. Today is Alice's other winter formal. Alice is a trooper. She's been beset this week by a sty on her eye (just beginning to bloom), a cold sore (just fading), a chest cold (still hacking), and the high likelihood that she and three other girls will look like the hot pink bridesmaid quartet at the dance tonight. She learned on Thursday that 3 other girls have her exact dress in hot pink. She is still looking forward to a fun evening. We gave her a spray on tan last night. I wouldn't let her get acrylic nails or a real tan in a booth. Mean mom! I'm playing fairy godmother to my little Cinderellie. The mice are hard at work hemming her dress and the bluebirds are fluttering around the room. ;) Lou, I know you've had a much more difficult year than anyone deserves. And you do it all with aplomb and joy. A good example for dour me.

That's it ...thanks Annie...I knew Daniel might be away somewhere but I'd forgotten that he was sailing.
Eileen didn't he start a webpage or blog about his travels?
I'd like to see it if he did. :-)

Thank you, everyone! Daniel is here for one more day. Sniff. The sailing trip almost didn't happen and he came home, bringing all his stuff with him just before New Year's Eve. But a day or so later the problems with travel documents were resolved (long story) and the trip is back on. http://dansailing.blogspot.com/ I am happy he will be here for my birthday.

Alice has already gifted me and given me a lovely card this morning. She has told me I'm not allowed to cook my own birthday dinner but it won't keep me from making a pie! We are all going out for dinner this evening at a local spot.

Life is good.
