Stainless steel range cleanability/ would you have another one?
Comments (15)I'm adding my 2 cents as I just purchased 2 new SS appliances and used this thread to learn what I should use to clean them. When I went to the store, however, the suggested brands were not there. I did purchase Goddard's Appliance & Countertop Polish, which specifies SS on its packaging. It worked beautifully! My installer told me that before I used my new dishwasher (Bosch) and any SS appliance, I should coat it with SS polish, and said if I didn't, I'd never be able to completely get rid of subsequent finger marks, etc. He said that the SS needs oil. I used this product w/ a microcloth, and both appliances look great, and when I touch them there are no fingermarks....See MoreWhat kind of utensil do you use with stainless steel?
Comments (8)Good stainless steel is for serious, aggressive cooking. I use anything short of a chisel in mine. If I wanted to have to baby my pots and pans, I'd have gotten some non-stick or anodized stuff. I chose my All-Clad SS so I could use whatever I wanted to cook with, then throw it in the dryer. It really hasn't scratched, but I'd have no regrets if it did, because it would still function great for decades to come....See MoreWhat to do if you don't like stainless steel and black?
Comments (30)I don't think it's the white color that can disappoint, Florantha, but rather the type of finish these pieces (white or black) can have. Many of the current appliance models have a pebbly painted (or plasticked?) metal surface that, while great for disguising fingerprints in a busy household, doesn't lend itself to either modern sleekness or a period look. I do wish they'd bring back simple, durable enameled finishes - my 1949 white stove is as bright and shiny as the day it was made. And that puppy has been scrubbed daily for ... 62 years now. I agree, peanut. If someone wanted to give me a nice white (or any color, for that matter) Chambers range, I'd be a happy woman indeed. I had one in my first apartment in downtown Salt Lake City many years ago, and I didn't realize how fortunate I was. Lavender - what about a blue Chambers? They're a little hard to find, but they're a great blue that might work well in your kitchen....See MoreHave you had this problem with stainless steel appliances?
Comments (12)My white fridge had a few dents in it...it's not that textured surface, it's a smooth surface so that may be the difference. The dents annoy me though. My stainless appliances don't have any dents yet and fingerprints are easy to wipe clean, they don't bother me much and are limited to the handle area. My kids don't paw at the stove (they know not to touch it because you never know when it's on) and they don't use the dishwasher because I'd rather just load that myself so little fingers aren't on the appliances. With toddlers I can see fingerprints being an issue but my youngest is 3 1/2 and he doesn't bother with the appliances. Now the handle on my old white stove was YUCKO all the time as is the white handles on my current fridge. I wish they could make those out of a material that doesn't look dingy and yellow after a time. I know my microwave had a nicer handle, smooth and easy to clean....See Moremarkbr
