I have the Miele Diamante G2143SC, which has the control panel on the front. The one your looking at G2183SCSF has the hidden controls on the top. Difference is the G2143 has the LED display on the front where you can set a delay start, and there is also a "Turbo" function that can reduce was time by 15-25 percent. The G2183 does not have the delay start or Turbo. The next model down G2181SCSF loses the China/Chrystal mode and the water softener. Since you have a whole-home water softener, as long as it's properly set, you don't need the use of the one on the dishwasher. But since I don't have a whole-home unit, I do use the built-in water softener on the Diamante and have it set to 6 grains. My unit was also connected to the hot water, since that is where the existing dishwasher hookup was. I asked Miele directly about this beforehand, and was told that you can hook it up to either, but said that there is no issue with connecting it to the hot water. So when it was installed, that's how it was done. There was no "cold water hookup" mode mentioned anywhere in the installation sheet or manual. It does not waste water as deeageaux stated. If fills from the hot water line and starts the cycle. All the cycles run fine. Maybe this was an issue on older units? Here's a copy/paste from the manual: The dishwasher can heat its own water to the temperature required by the wash program. This allows for connection of the machine to either a hot or cold water source. For lowest energy consumption connect the dishwasher to a cold water source. For fastest possible wash times, with slightly higher energy consumption, connect the dishwasher to a hot water source. All programs use hot water in the rinse cycles. � The inlet hose is approximately 5 ft. (1.5m) long. � A 5 ft. (1.5m) drain extension is available from Miele. The water inlet hose comes equipped with a 3/4" female hose thread connector. This can be directly connected to a water supply with 3/4" MHT (male hose thread ends). � Water pressure: Must be between 4.5 - 145 psi (0.3 - 10 bar).

Non-European washers just don’t heat water properly. Period. End of story. You have to spend money to get machines that actually heat water to the temp you set. I have looked at every brand out there. Miele is the ONLY brand that GUARANTEES the wash water will meet the set temp in every cycle except ”Normal”. Which should be labeled eco. Even in this cycle the wash water temp is met if the machine is not filled with tap cold. Normal is almost always neutered in some way to get the energy start rating and the associated kick back money from the government. Our family does MANY 60C (140F) washes. Usually several a day. These are anywhere from 70-90 minutes long. You can feel the heat on the door. Bosch and asko will also heat, but they don’t publish the temps nor do they tell you the temp for each cycle. Hot in normal is usually different that Hot in Whites on Bosch. I have owned two and had to use a temp probe to find the temps per cycle. Never again. Miele is simple. Every step up is another 10C. From 20C-70C. The clean machine cycle is 80C. There is a chart of every cycle and which temps are supported for that cycle in the user manual. To expect similar from an $800 washer just won’t happen. Something has to give to meet that price point. Unfortunately many don’t realize what they give up until the machine is installed and frustration sets in. I HATE paying for Miele appliances. I Love using them. I just grit my teeth and pay when i wear out an appliance and have to buy new. I have never regret the purchases once they are paid for. Clothes are always clean. Cycles for everything, including wool and silk. I know this does not help if you already have an LG washer. Keep in mind for next time. Buy quality and cry once when you pay. Then smile and enjoy doing laundry after that. There is a reason there are functional toy Miele washer and dryer sets. Until you have or use a set it will be hard to understand.

Interesting perspectives. Everyone needs to do what they feel best and as long as you are not mistreating your animals I doubt that they mind bed vs no bed. A properly vaccinated pet will not give you anything by sharing the bed that they won't give you by merely sharing the same house. Outside of some small and rare exceptions (and those with weakened immune systems), they don't transmit diseases to us normally. Yes you could get fleas, ticks, mites, etc but you would get them anyway just by sharing the house. I believe in a healthy immune system is based on thousands of years of evolution and that exposing yourself to all sorts of germs is the best way to stay healthy. I rarely use hand sanitizer (just wash up), play in the dirt and generally just live. No diseases, rarely get sick, etc. We camp, I've been known to sit and lay on the floor, etc. Outside of some relatively rare diseases, just showering daily or when appropriate is all you need. Your body has been designed to fight stuff off. Sharing the bed with the dog is no worse than, say, wearing sandals or flip flops. Now those things are NASTY - confirmed Staph, MRSA, etc on the footbeds of them. Just gross. :) We all have to do what we are comfortable with and what our dogs are comfortable with. Our last dog - she had the bed when we were gone but wasn't into sharing. This one, she's a cuddle bug.

As a caregiver, I have organic soils to deal with, so prewash comes in handy. I'll often do a cold prewash with no detergent, to prevent setting the stains due to high temps. even though I have the LiGi set for a cold intake, I'm afraid it heats so quickly (to approx. 50c in 10 or so minutes) to work on cooler water stains. That and I want to flush the soil before the main wash. As larsi mentioned, I'm washing at lower temps now that I know what temps I'm washing things in. Darks clothes i.e. Polos, t's, trousers are usually 35c. Jeans and sturdy cottons at 40c. Light polos, t's and khaki's at 40. Sturdy light cottons at 50c. Dark/light towels at 50c and sheets 50-60c. Whites get at least a 75c wash, I haven't had any wear issues at this temp, even elastic and microfibres. Delicate items are washed at 30c or below. As suburbanmd stated, I like the control of centigrade temp settings. I'm finding that I'm using way less detergent than ever before, this is my 4th fl set, so I'm used to less soap. I think this is a big reason my clothes are showing less wear these days.
