Internet Explorer ( Windows)

I still have IE6 and some of my fav. websites do not support IE6 and tell me to upgrade to 8 .

I know some have PC problems with IE 8.

How bad is it?

Is it easy to uninstall the 8 and restore the old one??

I don't know what to do.

If you have no use for IE8 then install Chrome, Firefox or Opera and use as your main browser.

I've run into the same problem with an old desktop that uses IE 6. I've tried finding version 7, but it keeps showing IE 8. IE 8 works OK on my laptop but is quite contrary on my new desktop, so I don't want to upgrade to that version.

I had occasion to speak with a Verizon DSL tech concerning an email issue. He said they are telling their customers to use Firefox or another browser rather than IE 8 in its current form. So now instead of being stuck with the problems of IE 6, I can do everything I want online with Firefox.

you need to use the print option from with in the email program. For example on hotmail it has a print icon there on the hotmail emails. do not just use your file print option like you normally do.

anyone still using IE6 on their computer is seriously jeopardizing the safety of their pc, MS stopped updating IE6, it is essential to update to a newer version asap. Websites are no longer supporting IE6 so many things will not work. The most important thing however is the huge holes in IE6 that are no longer being patched which leave you wide open to nasties.

If you insist on not doing IE8 then definitely at the very least get IE7 NOW

Please understand that leaving IE6 on your pc and simply using a different browser does NOT necessarily help in blocking your exposure. Downloading and installing IE7 will take care of that so would IE8.
Then if you choose to use firefox instead you are good to go but definitely update from IE6.

I can only think there maybe other outdated issues. Make sure Service pack 3 for XP is installed.I would install that before installing IE7 OR IE8 if you don't already have it. Installing IE7 OR IE8 before service pack 3 can result in issues.

Raven: I'm another one that still has IE6 on my computer. As I only use Firefox as my browser, I hadn't given any thought to updating my IE. In fact when I was having some problems with my cable internet a couple of months ago, tech guys recommended I not update. (My OS is XP.)

My question is: if I update to IE7, will I still be able to use Outlook Express for my email? My OS is XP.

Thanks RC and Zep for your heads up info. Also, thanks, RC, for the link to IE7. I've tried and tried to find that download! I had IE7 on the old XP hard drive, but when I installed my new hard drive the XP disk installed IE6. I did do the SP3 install and am now running IE7. Thank you!!! :)

I haven't found how to remove IE6. Is this going to pose a problem? Thanks again.

Can't remove IE6 Microsoft has that as part of the operating system. It's not going to hurt anything, you can uninstall IE7 if the need would arise and the computer will revert back to IE6.

Shirley, using another browser does not in any way affect your ability to use Outlook Express for your mail. But you should definitely update from IE6.

one reason you should move to IE7 or 8 is that should you at some point in time have a problem with the other browser you are using then what is going to happen you will try using your IE to see if you can do the task using it and then there you go using IE6 which is a huge risk. So no you can not remove it but updating it to 7 or 8 will stop you from accidentally using it ever.

To check for other things on the pc that may need updating use the secunia tool to help with that.

I just wanted to know if I download IE7, will the Outlook Express 6 update to OE7? If not, will OE6 still be usable, and not affected in anyway?
