Building a Home

help with photo shopping my house plans

We are building a new home and I am thinking about using barn red vinyl siding. I have seen homes with this on it and love it. I am nervous. Is it possible to photo shop off from the plans? I don't want the victorian millworks, no frills

PS. I am new to posting but i LOVE all of your homes, what an inspiration. Makes me more excited about finishing ours, but we are doing it all ourselves.... as we can pay for it, so a slow process.

I hate to promise this until I start tinkering and see if I can do it...but maybe.....

If anyone else wants to grab it that photoshops, feel free to jump in too.

I've found using the certainteed visualizer helps quite a bit. It's not your exact plan, but they do have several victorian style homes and barn red vinyl.

OA, if you don't go spend money, then we are failing at being Enablers here. Now go, you don't want to be responsible for our failure. Dreamgoddess, you are a good friend, LOL. But I think I'll keep my pink Santa. By the way, there is a VERY similar one on eBay if anyone is interested. Says its from 1990. Mine is an even older piece and looks like this one was copied from it. Also listed is the Santa and Sleigh in my first photo. Since I can't do two clickable links, here is the info for that piece. And earlier this year I found a large Nutcracker on shopgoodwill, I was very excited about him! But I can't remember the pieces my daughter found for me at the "morning after" sales. I think a smaller rocking horse, and one or two other items. I can't wait to get them all out and see what to DO with them. I know I want to put them all in my living/dining room. tile or wood in kitchen w/pics photo shop help?

I have tile floors in my kitchen and I like them now but sometimes I wish I had gone with wood because I'm afraid that in a few more years the tile will look dated. I think that is a problem with tile. It dates fairly easily. I chose a slate look alike although it doesn't have as much variation as the slate in the above pictures. But, I think with tile regardless of what you pick it will date whereas wood is always classic. And, to me it seems like a huge effort to replace tile (although maybe I think it is a bigger deal than it is) I think wood with wood cabinets might be much though and would maybe choose painted cabinets over stained. Also, if you get the tile, I do highly recommend installing radiant floor heating if you can. It cost us a bundle for a hydronic system but it is so worth it in the winter when I walk in there in socks and can feel the heat on my feet! An electric system is much cheaper to install, but costs more to run so I guess it just depends on what system you will have in your home to begin with. Good luck!

Architects do more than just give you 'pretty' plans for a dream home. They design the home so it works, is safe, so that the systems are properly installed, meets code requirements, etc. A home's plans are NOT someplace you want to skimp--be sure you have a qualified professional plan your space so it's safe, workable and will give you many years of enjoyment. Personally? I'd rather use cheap materials than a cheap plan. If you have this done by someone without the proper expertise, there are SO many, potentially very expensive pitfalls you will probably encounter in years to come. Don't be pennywise and pound foolish on this important project

I had a place in a trailer park on the CA coast, close to OR. I had a storage shed. It was about 4x8, with a slanted roof. The door was on the east side. I had moisture issues during my first year. I added 4 vents, each vent was about 4x10, they were standard prefab vents from the hardware store. I installed two vents low on the west side and two vents high on the east side and did not have problems with moisture, rust, etc. I kept hand tools, fishing and boating equipment, a fridge and freezer in that shed. FWIW, in a corrosive environment: use protection. I used a lot of wd-40. I was about 1/2 mile from the ocean. There are many propane heater and kerosene heater options. I was able to deal with it in California, I don't know if you have different conditions in your area. The issue is condensation.

Cutting and pasting didn't go well...too blurry and when I transfer it to your houseplan, it went all orange. So, I just did a quick paint job for you. Barn red is probably somewhere in between these two colors.

thank you so much,, YUCK i don't care for that at all. We are not doing the brick, we are using castle rock similar to the stone that sprice5105 used under her porch, but i still don't think i care for the red. Our roof is black/ gray// any other ideas. Our current home is a cactus green w/ white which i love. I will be using some accent color, in the gables but OH I DON"T KNOW NOW. What to do ? What is your favorite house color.

Can't say I liked it much either but it could just be the way the colors came out on the monitor.

But since you love your cactus green color, why not do that again? Seems similar to Sprice5105's and that's gorgeous.

I was playing around with a few colors but then I wondered how limited you are. What manufacturer would you be using for your siding?

I love most of the greens with the stone you are looking at but I also really like blues. Some historical colors looked nice. And maybe you could still get some red in there with the front door.

Thanks, i'm not really limited to anything at this point. We are building it ourselves and can use any manufacture that we want. Any advice would be apprecitated.
