You can use just the stretchy thread to thread the beads and make a bracelet. Put a drop of nailpolish on the knot to help it hold. For necklaces/braclets with wire, it gets a bit more complicated. Need some basic tools (you can get at any craft store)and a few hours to watch videos on the computer. Yup, that is how I learned this fall - there are instructional video clips all over the internet. Mostly it comes down to two things: using what's called "crimp" beads to hold the beads on the wire and also learning how to make "loops" to connect components.

If there is no enamel on it, put it in Tarnex. If there is anything else on it that you don't want to hurt, use a Q-Tip to apply. Tarnex is found in most grocery stores.

First, determine the quality of the jewelry. If it is ordinary costume jewelry, it probably is not worth the expense of having an artisan rework the piece. Instead, spend the money on new pieces. On the other hand, if the ear clips contain something like rubies, diamomds, tanzanite, etc. in a quality mount, then it is worth it. Be sure that the artisan can change from clip-on to post or pierced without destroying the stone mount. also, try to preserve the caret and alloy marking. About rings: To resize to a smaller diameter, a piece of the ring is removed, closed, and soldered. Before doing this, look inside the band for an inscription. A ring given to s special person may bear an inscription of endearment and you may not want to destroy that. to resize to a larger size, the ring is stretched over a sizing mandrel. The stretching should be done in stages. after the ring has been stretched a small amount, it is annealed so that it can again be cold worked. In this way, a ring can be stretched a couple of sizes without breakage. Of course, the band will be a bit thinner than original. For extreme enlagement, a piece of matching alloy can be soldered in. However, the patch will not be as continuous appearing as a stretch job. The problem is getting a color match between the solder and the ring. Nominally, the solder will have a melt temperature less than the base metal, and therefore is a different alloy with a different appearance to the base metal. It is easier to match color of solder to silver alloys than gold alloys. To locate artisans of jewelry making and repair, visit rock collector societies and clubs. Many of these produce a yearly show and you can view their work, also meet the artisan. Most are ametuers, but some do operate at a prosessional level with awards to prove it. Some may operate a jewelry business in their homes, while others do contract work with a local jeweler. A GIA certification is a plus. Pick up a copy of the magazine, "Lapidary Journal / Jewelry Artist" at your local rock shop or peruse a copy at the library. This will give you an idea of what is available. The ads can give you leads to locating artisans and services. Before reworking, make sure that the piece is not a collectable antique that is worth more leaving it as is. You really should not cut up a Cartier, Tiffany, etc.

I'm really disappointed because I had saved a lot of posts from appliances and home decorating. Now I'll have to figure some other way of saving.
