My goodness he looks so big...I still can't believe poor Amanda had to do it without an epidural! Bud certainly plumped up in his extra time in the oven! The family photo is so sweet. I love it! Again, my congratulations to the whole family!

Oh he does look big in that first photo Annie - like a six month old baby already !
And he isn't crying as he lies on that table.

That's a lovely pic of the four of them together. I hope you will take many more photos and post them here, especially closeups of Bud and Makayla.

Oh good, I'm glad it's not just me. He just seems HUGE with his double chin. He doesn't even "scrunch up" like babies usually do, in the fetal position. He stretches out and takes up lots of space. He's pretty placid, he eats and sleeps and only cries when he gets changed.

What a beautiful big baby! Congratulations to all. I agree, Amanda looks amazing - usually those "mother right after giving birth" photos are horrific...but not her!

I know that you are so thrilled that you finally have that handsome boy. I am eager to see how the relationship with him develops. DD and SIL are wanting another, I keep thinking, how could I possible love the next one as much as Beau. I am really worrying about this, I sure don't want to show favorites.

Well....there are 2 things to be said about big babies....one is they are fat little roly-poly's and they don't need to be fed every 2 hours.....and the other is they are big strong babies and their stomach muscles are working like mad and they get colicky and want to be fed every 2 hours!
Becky was 8 1/2 pounds.....and colicky and wanted to eat all the time....couldn't fill her up....weigher 22 pounds at 6 months...
My 2nd grand son was 9 pounds at birth....a.nd the same.....his sister born less than 2 years later was 6 pounds 2 oz....and her mother fed her often....but she wasn't fussy, not colicky nor demanding and easy as pie once she got some pounds on....which happened in about 2 weeks!
But he's a bruiser for sure!....keep those little creases lotioned up.....and get ready with the cereal!

LindaC, Makayla was a colicky baby and was up a lot, crying for hours. She weighed 6 lbs. 3 oz, 2 lbs. less than Bud. It's one of the times in my life when insomnia was a good thing. Amanda and David would be fast asleep on the couch at 4 a.m. and Makayla and I would be sitting in the chair, watching James Bond movies. She still loves James Bond.

My girls were within 5 ounces of each other. Amanda was 7lb. 10 oz and was happy, contented and slept well. Ashley was 7 lb 15 oz and was colicky, difficult and still doesn't sleep through the night.

I think it's as much personality as anything, probably, but I did remind Amanda what our doctor told me when she was small: "I never knew a baby that died from eating rice cereal." That same doctor delivered Amanda and has always told me that you know your own baby better than anyone, just do what works for you. I have that box of rice cereal waiting in the cupboard...

But I know some mothers who thought they were going to die with a hungry colickey baby who would have settled right down with a little rice cereal!
My nextdoor neighbor had a baby who cried from the time his head emerged until he was a year old! I told his mother that cereal would help....but you know....you don't feed cereal for 6 months!...Well about 6 weeks she gave him rice cereal in a split nipple bottle.....and it helped some....but he still cried all the time.
But at a year he just smiled and said....well that's over and has been a happy kid ever since!

LindaC, she's not breast feeding. I know it's "healthier", but like me, she just hated it.

I nursed Amanda but Ashley got formula. Although Amanda was a much more contented baby, now Ashley is so healthy that the doctor has said it's a good thing that she has sports physicals and spider bites or he'd never see her. Amanda, however, is allergic to everything in the universe, and is sick several times every winter with colds, the flu, strep throat, tonsillitis, you name it she gets it.

It doesn't appear that formula compromised Ashley's immune system much and it didn't seem to help Amanda's. I told Amanda that she had to do whatever SHE was comfortable with and not let people make her feel guilty for using a bottle. I did tell her to get a nipple with a smaller hole, though. Bud is such a pig that he sucks down formula so fast he chokes himself.

Annie - what are Amanda and David calling "Bud"? I mean, of course I know his name but you know what I mean, what name are they really using? How does Makayla refer to him as?

Woodie, Makayla calls him "the baby" as in "the baby is sleeping.....again". She thinks he is spectacularly boring, he doesn't do anything interesting at all. (grin)

Amanda calls him sweetie or something similar and Dave calls him "Baby Dave", although he's threatened to start calling him "Baby Huey" after the enormous cartoon baby duck.

I think that, like most kids, his "name" will come to him in time.

I haven't been over here and didn't know you had posted a picture until just now. What a cute roly poly Dave is and in the other photo Makayla is looking so grown up. It's a beautiful family photo to treasure even though you can't see Davids face. I love dark hair and the color of the parents hair leave little doubt what color the kids will turn out to be.

I too have not been over here. I am so happy to see the picture! He is a beautiful, plump, healthy lookin little guy isn't he? And the family looks just beautiful! You have gorgeous children, annie, and adorable grand children.
