What great options. Digitizing a lifetime of music, voice recordings, movies, etc sure is time consuming. But it's wonderful there are so many options out there. Raven- I had forgotten all about Heartland catalogue. It's been probably 20 years since I ordered from them. Those are some great gadgets. The one with lp too is a bit pricey - esp. since I have a cd recorder connected to my turntable. It's a lot less convenient than having it by the computer - but it works well. The one for just tapes looks good. Grandms'- I don't need the turntable portion, but your post made me think that with the right cables (do you happen to know what they are?) I should be able to hook up my old compact stereo/cassette player to my computer. My question about that has always been that I don't think i have an input into my sound card. Does that mean I have an integrated sound card (without its own input port). But there must be cables that could transfer from a stereo to a usb port. Heck - are there cables that go to a firewire port - or perhaps that's overkill for music files. What's Pyro? Did that come with turntable - or just a program you have? I assume Roxio cd creator could do that - burn a cd? how did you find Cakewalk easier than Audacity? I think I've heard good things about both. And Urlee and Jean love Audacity and find it easy. So I'd appreciate any other thoughts in deciding which software to use? Thanks. Lynn.

I just planned my 30th high school reunion and found that a ton of land line phone numbers and the street addresses found alongside of them were no longer valid. Many people are going cellular only... I did pay one site for a few people I could not find and the money was not worth it. I got the same info that I had gotten from a free site. Also, I used multiple people search sites, where one would find nothing, another would give me an address or phone number. I spent a ton of time trying to find people because the professional planners used for the last two reunions did not and many were not invited. I found the most people on Facebook! over 200, though not all of them responded to my contact attempts.

If the carpet installer is a licensed contractor or business, in most areas, there will be records of his contact information. If you are persistent you should be able to track this down through the appropriate local or state agencies. For instance, in Florida, you can look up corporations or business names through the Department of State, Division of Corporations. In Florida, all contractors must be licensed through the Division of Business Regulations. Those are both accessible online. Counties keep track of contractors also and that can be traced through the local building department. Just one note though - Florida is an open records state. All public records are required by law to be open to the public, with only a few exceptions. If your state has more restrictive rules about records, you may have problems locating the information. But it is worth a try. Another thought - if the installer was not a licensed contractor, you may be able to get him in trouble simply by trying to locate his info - in which case he has caused his own difficulties. ;-)

Does anyone have advice for reverse email lookups? I've received a couple of emails from gardenweb in the past few days about old posts. The member (you have to be a member to send emails, right?) didn't sign a name nor a username, and I have no idea who this is- can't find them in the member registry using just an email address. I'm not keen on responding to people I don't 'know' unless it's back through GW. DivaD1 had a cyber-stalker of sorts years ago and we're still a bit spooked about our privacy... I'm not going to pay for it (Intelius), but would appreciate other suggestions. And thank you, Sue, for allowing me to skew/hijack your post! (without asking)
