48' Range or Rangetop and Double Ovens???
Comments (3)If I had the room and the $$$, I would get a range top and two wall ovens. Our old kitchen had that arrangement and I find using the upper oven easy on the back, and when the kids were little, it was a little out of their way. If you have the room in your kitchen layout, someone could be using the range-top while another is using the wall oven(s), without getting in each other's way. Due to other priorities in our new kitchen remodel, we are changing to a 36" Blue Star and a Miele Speed Oven (I need a second oven). I hope this arrangement works the way I want it too. I love the look of a 48" range, but it wouldn't fit....See More48'Rangetop-Viking/Wolf/Some other brand?
Comments (5)Are you looking at sealed burners or open burners? We have the 48" Wolf, open-burner, 8-burner configuration...Only about 3 or 4 weeks of using it now, but after about a day of getting used to it, all of us here love it. I couldn't find anything close to it in features/performance/power/reputation/history, especially since we have propane, except BlueStar. I thought the Wolf would be easier to keep clean, since the porcelain enamel surface is fairly easy to wipe out, but comparing that to the cast iron grates, I can see where they would be more forgiving, developing a patina and a seasoning over time...meaning I can now understand why people might like the BlueStar's cast iron surfaces better. I have things that are caught by the drip pans and try to burn or stick that might just fall through to the tray underneath in the BlueStar. I don't regret my choice, but now see both sides of the BlueStar vs Wolf discussions, and would consider them pretty equal. I do like that every burner on the Wolf has the same power so I am free to use them all to the best advantage in each situation. All the options out there are expensive and I wanted value over a lower initial price. I didn't want to regret my decision and from what I learned about its consistent performance and the way the company stands behind their products, I thought Wolf was my best bet....See MoreKA 36 ' rangetop vs Wolf rangetop
Comments (6)I admit to having a Wolf and never having looked at this KA until I looked it up for this post, so am starting out biased. ;-) I like all my burners the same power, which is one reason I chose Wolf. For example, I can use a 2 burner griddle sideways or vertically on any burners I want, and I can always arrange whatever size pans and whatever I'm cooking the way that works best for me, not by what output each burner provides. Also, Wolf customer service has an exceptional reputation for standing behind their products. I didn't experience that with Maytag, which is now in the same business family with KA, so I'm not sure if it's better or worse than I dealt with. There's the open vs sealed burner issue, which you can probably do a search on to find previous discussions on this forum. Different people prefer different things, but I thought the open burners looked like the best performers and what I'd prefer to clean. I only ever wonder if I should have gotten a BlueStar to have burners that are even more open. Do you have natural gas or LP? The KA specs say it's configured for NG, but can be converted to LP, which usually means a loss in BTUs for propane users. These are all tough decisions, especially when you're talking about so much money for either choice. I just didn't want to spend thousands and be disappointed, so after my research decided Wolf was my best bet for satisfaction without regret. Best wishes on your decision....See MoreWolf v. Comments (20)Dodge - I try not to make assumptions, or broadly criticize. I try to call a spade a spade. Like the good folks that complied that chart I base most of my advice on experience and my own collected historical data. After 15 years of nothing but high end kitchens that is now considerable for high line gear. Not so much on the mass market stuff. In addition I actually own or have owned and used a lot of these units that are kicked around here. Their chart is nice, but you can clearly see that they concentrate on the mass market and lower price stuff. Nothing wrong with that. There are some nice units. At my playground up the ladder a ways things are different, prices are higher and so are expectations. Folks around GW tend not to over analyze a $1200 Kenmore fridge purchace. They do often fret over a built in one costing 5 to 6 times that. So accuracy is key (in my view) when playing there. So, what's wrong with their chart? 1. Thermador- some of their units are made by Bosch, their parent but others are are are the same basic box from Whirlpool that these guys tout as a best buy. Someone reading this in ignorant bliss would likely conclude that Thermador was a no no. Parts are also not hard to come buy unless you are not an authorized service center. Then they are a available as anyone elses subject to the normal supply chain logistics that affect all large manufacturers. 2. Viking - their fake built ins are indeed built by Whirlpool and look nice too. Can't be a really good unit AND a clunker just because of a better paint job. Viking's built in line , generally regarded as bad news is made by Viking themselves on tooling and dies bought from Amana - which they gave good marks to. 3. Marvel - if they were being consistent it would list the manuf. as Northland, which was left off the list, OR AGA which bought both of them a few years ago in the boom time. 4. Left off the list were Miele and Gaggenau which represent SZ's largest competitor today. Also missing is JennAir which has mid range boxes and a built in line that is well built if not sexy. They were the first to pioneer the variable speed compressor you mentioned, which is the future. Liebherr is also not represented, another GW darling. Their Dishwasher chart and advice is also inaccurate when assessing the high end models....See Moredeeageaux
