Have you called up your ISP? It shouldn't be doing this, and it may be that you just need to change a setting. If they can't help, call up tech support for the new router. Usually these things can be taken care of easily, but there are so many possibilities that it's hard to list all the options and steps here. I presume you've re-booted all your equipment...?

I have called my isp several times...no call backs.(that is why I posted here, to get as many facts as I can)..I have reset the router, reset the modem, rebooted and changed cables, plugged into a different surge protector, and into the wall socket, no difference. Yesterday,I finally got a hold of someone at my new isp, named "COOKIE". As soon as I stated my name, she said,"oh the BOSS (not a tech) is going to call you today, probably within the next half hour". I told her I would be expecting the BOSS to call within the half hour. Guess what... no call back as of yet. I haven't paid my second month and do not intend to. They can come get their equipment and cancel my contract. I have never seen such lousy customer service.Thanks for responding.

When you say it is "looking up http****.com" is that the same address all the time? If so try Googling it to see if others had the same problem but found the fix.

You refer to 'their equipment', if that is the modem you might disconnect it from the power for 30 seconds and see if that helps. Do not just turn it off, for some reason it needs the power disconnected.

Are you using one of these 2 computers to post here?

Owbist, The "looking up http***com" has happened with many sites, many are my bookmarks. I have reset the modem as well as resetting my router. I can not bypass the router and connect directly to my computer. The tech who installed the equipment, told me all I had to do was plug the cable from the modem directly into my computer, reset the modem and it would work. It doesn't. The one time I did get to talk to a tech, she had me go into my internet setting and change my TCP/IP protocal settings to be able to connect directly. That didn't work. These problems happen on both of my computers. With my old isp, all I had to do was connect directly to my computer, no resetting the modem. The lack of communication with this company is something that I have never experience before. As stated, I have called many times, always getting the message "all our representatives are busy helping other customers, leave you name,number and nature of your problem and we will get back to you as soon as possible". I have had 2 call backs. Since I left my message the last time, it has been 4 business days. This has been going on since Nov. 12th. It's irritating enough to have these problems and then not being able to get any help just compounds that situation. The reason I switched isp is because my other isp was having problems with town radio signals interfering with their signals. (both antennas being installed on the same water tower). I am now getting my signal from a tower less than 1 and 1/2 miles away with not physical obstructions. BTW, 15 hours later, no call from the "BOSS".

Sorry, I forgot to respond to your questions. Yes, I am unpugging the modem to reset it. And I am using one of the 2 computers to post.

What computer are you using to post here?

Hopefully you didn't sign a long term contract with this provider, which is often the case. Some companies oversell, and then don't have the tech support or the men in the field to maintain things in a timely fashion.

Why not try emailing them, and describe all of the problems you had, including not being able to get ahold of anyone via phone, and suggest that you would like to have your service (???) discontinued if they don't get in touch with you soon and get the problem corrected soon. There is just no excuse for a company to do business that way.

It sounds like the nightmares I had with Wild Blue...sigh.

Rant away...I certainly would be after having problems as long as you have.

Sue, I am using firefox and have tried IE. This happens with both computers. These problems started with the new ISP. I did sign a contract with the option to cancel within 30 days. The 30 days has passed and have been billed for the next month, which I have not paid and will not pay until this matter is resolved. I told my husband that when I don't pay the bill, I will surely get a call from them... :-)

One good thing, I have not had any problems as of yet this morning. Maybe they got the rag out. I am waiting to get a call from the "BOSS", but not holding my breath. I did talk with "COOKIE" the secretary yesterday. She is the only one I have been able to talk with. I have written about all the trouble and have a 33 page Word document listing all the incidents of disconnect. They offer to pay $75 for each qualified referral. Yeah, like that's gonna happen. I must admit, I love the speed when it is working. That is why I want this to work.

what is the ISP? there are many great ISP dedicated forums over on BBR if it is a big name one they may have a forum there you could use. Here is the link to BBR to see the ones available, the people there are extremely knowledgeable and helpful.

I'm hoping they have the problem fixed. I haven't had any problems so far today. The ISP is Skyweb and apparently it is from Charter. my static address is bycy.mi.charter.com.

The "Boss" finally called and we got some things taken care of. He had no idea that my calls had not been returned. He said that since I had called in several times, that I had been upgraded to level 2 and passed on to someone higher up the totem pole and he had gotten my trouble ticket and had assumed that I had receive call backs. He didn't know about the answering machine situation. He was very upset that I had not even received a courtesy call, letting me know that it had been passed on and it was getting resolved. He is going to make sure that things are change with that situation. Sounds to me that some of the lower people have been slacking off. He has extended my 30 day option to cancel out of my contract, then he filled me in on some secrets of their contracts. which made me a very happy camper. The reason that my connections is so much better today, is, he adjusted my modem today at 6:10am and instead of getting a 72% rating, I am now getting a 99% rating. The reason that he hadn't called back, is that his father is in the hospital in critical condition. I know that may sound like a cop-out, be I believe him. We had a very long cordial conversation. He will be calling back in about 2 weeks to see how things are going.

Once again, thank you all for your time and effort to try to help with this very annoying situation.

It's good to hear that things seemed to have gotten resolved. Hopefully the boss will call back in 2 weeks and you will have a good report for him.
