Will 'hot glue' hold this securely?

Hi all --

I check the posts here occasionally, so know how talented and clever you all are! I'm sure you'll know what I can best use...

I want to experiment with making a sort of "sculpture" using old metal and plastic parts from things saved after house repairs. (are your eyes rolled back in your head? lol!). These are items like curtain and closet hangers, rollers, etc. Weird stuff.

Will "hot glue" (actually, I think my mini gun is what's called low-temp) hold these things together securely? or can you tell me what I really need to use and where to get it?

heres a site that might help, wouldnt count on hot or low temp glue to hold for long, does help to hold things till the other glue sets, I use E6000 on about everything, but you might look it up and see if it can be used for your project.
no I am not rolling my eyes sounds like you will be haveing alot of fun! come back and show us your finished project.

With my experience with hot glue, it will hold almost anything..I use hot glue alot, doing projects and crafts, it sounds like the things you want to work with will take to it fine. If you are not use to hot glue a couple of points, IT IS VERY HOT. if you get it on you, its going to blister, if you drop some on anything, dont try and get it up right then, (like we would most normal spills) give it a few minutes and let it harden, then when its hard, you can peel it right off anything. (normally) if it gets in something porous, like a piece of cloth its harder to clean, but still let it harden, dont rub it in, it makes it worse. Good Luck!

Please don't try to glue it to anything! If the glue penetrates the body of the chrysalis it'll probably kill it. Since the chrysalis is still attached by the silk pad, carefully scratch around the edges of the pad and tear it off slowly - you'll safely bring the entire chrysalis with it, "un-nicked". Then prop the chrysalis up in a safe place, preferably heads up or sideways (not heads down) which are the natural positions, or, even better, cut out a piece of foam rubber about 3"X2" and cut out a section of it in the center big enough to put the chrysalis in, like a shallow cradle. Then prop the foam rubber against the side of the cage or other safe place. When the butterfly emerges, it then needs to be in a place where it can crawl upward (if it's propped up against the bottom of the cage) and hang upside down for at least 5-6 hours to let the fluids go into the wings and harden them, so it can fly. If you put your chrysalis in a slick plastic container of some sort, then you could line it with paper towels, which butterflies can hold onto, lap it over the top of the container, put bridal veil mesh on top for ventilation, and secure the paper towel and mesh with clothes pins or something like that. Some people put sticks in the container for the newly emerged butterfly to hang onto, but mine never would use sticks. The container needs to be big enough that your butterfly can exercise it's wings, flutter around, maybe even fly a little bit before you release it. Good luck with your future butterfly! Sherry

Hot glue for hot summer temps on wreath?

Hot glue will let loose because it stays stiff when dry and does not expand or retract with changing temps. For outdoor wreaths and other projects I use Aleene's Tacky or Aleene's Super Tacky glue. Both will expand and retract with the changing temps and will not 'let go'.

Oh dear, Lmcal, You are being too hard on yourself. You are not complaining or being too picky. You sound realistic. Tomorrow you are going to take a deep breath and remind yourself you are paying for this new kitchen. And with a firm, calm, direct and powerful (not agressive save that if things get ugly later) and kind voice you will figure a way to communicate what you expect from these people you have hired. You can do this. I think for women (like me) this can be difficult to try to be kind but yet firm. Don't be afraid to do this. There are different ways to approach this depending on the other person. You can do a casual kind but firm approach. Something like.. "Wow, I can not wait until you are finished. Those nails sticking out just iritate me. When you are done it is going to be amazing! I am just so excited about this new kitchen. Why just the other day I noticed the marker mark on the back of the wine rack. But I know this will all be fixed. The tiles will be so beautiful when they are smoothed out. I am thrilled. Thank you for your good job. And I look forward to seeing the corrections. " It is sort of a backhanded compliment. I know sneaky but it gets your points across. The other way is direct. Simply say. "I see there are few things that still need to be done. I want to take pictures of the progress. Should I wait until you have them corrected ________? There are definitley some issues that I looking forward to being corrected. Do we wait for the walk through or should I mention them now?" This sort of gives him an annoucement of what you are going to annouce. Giving him time to save face, or respond to your direction. And the third option. And I am so guilty of this is getting my DH to step in and speak for me. Often this is harder as DH is non confrontational. Thinking of you and hoping you know you are NOT too picky. Ditto zl700. I sell pool equipment wholesale Polaris will not warranty a blower that has been glued. Let me qualify that. They have warranteed some, if the builder got involved and used a WHOLE LOT of Polaris equipment. You don't lose million dollar accounts over a 200.00 blower.

I sell craft items and I use hot glue in conjunction with another glue - If you use hot glue by itself, it will pop off when it gets too cold and will soften and melt with hot weather...I use it with say Elmer's glue - hot glue to keep it in place until the elmer's sets up...

oddie, I checked that site and it's very interesting. I'll do some more research to find out what E6000 is and where to get it.

rmtonelzey and grandma_bonnie: I think that my glue gun might be low-temp. My sister bought it for me and I remember how she hated getting burned with her hot one. :) So it probably wouldn't hold as well as real hot glue anyway.

If I were only gluing small metal pieces the glue gun would probably work fine, but some of this metal is quite heavy so I think I will need something stronger after hearing what you all have to say. I haven't ruled out using wire in conjunction with the glue gun either. lol!
