Thanks Randy for trying to help. That's what I've been doing, downloading and reinstalling Firefox to replace the missing file, at least once a day for the last week. The trouble is, my computer doesn't seem to keep the file and I have to do it again the next day, and sometimes later on the same day I reinstalled it. It works fine for a little while then I'm back where I started. I have been downloading Firefox 2 each time but it just...won't...stick!

it might be easier to simply use your firefox's bookmark toolbar and put you icons to your most used sites right there on that toolbar then once firefox is open just click on the icon. To put any website icon on the bookmark toolbar in firefox, put the cursor on the icon at the beginning of the url in the address bar then drag it from there to the bookmark toolbar and let go. Was the restore point in blue and sort of inset with larger numbers? You have to use the restore dates that are there, not just any date. If you haven't created a restore point before this, create one now. However it will not help you with this because you cannot go back to a day before the restore point was created. If the program was not affected you can create new icons. Try clicking on the program in --start--all programs and see if it comes up. If it does then go out and click on start again. Go to your program and click once to highlight it then go to the little side page that has the icons and drag them to the desktop
