GE Monogram vs. Electrolux Icon Appliances
Comments (7)For the most part, the standard advice is to shop around for the best of each appliance regardless of manufacturer. For instance, while GE makes a great range, their refrigerators tend to be lacking. Both Icon and Monogram score high in my book for dual fuel range/gas rangetop, & wall oven. I am not at all impressed with either brand's refrigerators. Everytime I open an Icon refrigerator I am disappointed--the exterior wrapping looks so nice then the inside is just a let down. I didn't want to be depressed everytime I went for something in the fridge so I crossed them off my list. Anyway, back to the topic at hand--manufacturers want you to buy all your appliances from them and that's why they run those rebates. Often you can find just as good an overall deal by shopping piece by piece. The only place I find it common to have all one brand of appliance is in builder houses where they are getting a killer deal with no sales tax either by doing so. In our home, we went with the Monogram 36" 6 burner rangetop, Monogram double oven, Monogram hood (only got the hood in Monogram because of the $1,000 rebate with that combo and I really didn't have a hood brand preference), 2 KA dishwashers and a Samsung refrigerator. Mom has a Viking 36" 6 burner rangetop, Miele double oven, 2 Bosch dishwashers and a KA refrigerator. The appliances coordinate nicely in both homes and neither of us have anyone comment on whether or not they all matched brandwise. Hope this helps & happy hunting!...See MoreGE Profile or GE Monogram dilemma; please help!
Comments (2)Some Monogram products such as ranges and fridges are completely different from the Profile line - some like MWs are just better looking. Also, Monogram provides better warranty service. I'd stay away from a Sears extended warranty - you'll likely be locked into using A&E for service. You don't need to go with a single brand, however. Most of us mix and match. Do your research and get the best brand of each product that meets your needs. No need to get a complete package from one brand....See MoreElectrolux orGe Monogram appliances?
Comments (0)Hi. I'm new to this forum, and I've really enjoyed reading through many of the old threads. I've learned a lot from you. Like many who post here, I'm choosing appliances for a major kitchen remodel. Now I'm focusing on cooking appliances. Looking at features and reliability issues I've narrowed my choices down to the GE monogram ZET2 ovens and ZGU385 36" 5 burner cooktop, or the Electrolux (not ICON) EW30EW65 oven and EW36GC55 cooktop. On the Monogram all 5 burners are dual stack with simmer, so I'm leaning toward that one. The oven also seems excellent, but I like the look of the Electrolux better (love that blue inside). I also need an island type hood. Many of the existing posting on these appliances are 2 - 4 years old. I'd love to hear any new updates and opinions about these appliances. Thanks for your help....See MoreGE Monogram Appliances
Comments (5)How timely a thread! I was just cursing at my Monogram piece of **** dishwasher with the third touchpad failure in 3 years. I am trying to decide whether to bite the bullet and order another touchpad (I know how to install them at this point) or get a Miele. It doesn't even clean the dishes on top of it and it never has. The dispenser is always full of detergent (and I use only a TB) and the the dishes are dirty. Plus, my cabinet panel cracked in half because the steam generator in the door was leaking. The tech guy told me to call GE insurance since it was a defect but I don't think I am keeping it so it's not worth the aggravation. However, I LOVE my 3 year old GE Monogram range. But, it was actually a rebranded DCS at that time. It does take a long time to preheat but that's part of the tradeoff with a 36 inch oven I think. They are now made by someone else so I wouldn't buy that again. I think I would go with Wolf or Bluestar in the next remodel. My Monogram compactor (a rebranded Kitchen Aid it turns out) motor failed 3 weeks out of warranty. When I was told the price of the new motor ($800), I freaked out on GE and they actually replaced it for free. Sometimes, freaking out helps. The fact that it is Monogram means you so get slightly better warranties and service when you complain. My Advantium touchpad died also 3 weeks out of warranty too but has been okay for 2 years. I am at the point where I don't know which brand of appliances are actually designed to last. I will likely handwash dishes for a month or two and spring for a Miele. Consumers need to get tougher on these companies. I expect an appliance to last between 7-8 years-I don''t think that is asking a lot. But it seems like 3-5 years is what you get nowadays....See Morecotehele
