AnnaA and smv81261 please update us on GE induction range

AnnaA and smv81261 was there a successful repair of the GE Profile PHS925STSS induction range. I read your posts from this summer where you were both having an issue with the front right burner going to HI on its own.

Would love an update on your satisfaction with this range and the repair.

I am planning on buying a induction range and appreciate your thoughts.

I would also like to know about their PHS925STSS since the repair was done 6 months ago, and if that fixed the problem or not. At this point, since I'm in no rush, I'm waiting to see if/when the next GE Slide-in Induction will be out. My current GE Profile radiant heat smooth-top free standing range still works just fine and is about 8-9 years old. But I like the slide-in style better, so would replace with that.

Have you looked at the E-lux slide-in? I have the free-standing one and love it. Haven't had any problems at all

Thanks for asking fauguy. The installer called me the next day (after templating) and recommended that we initially plan on just pushing the stove up against the back pony wall so we can see how much of it will stick out. From there we can decide if we like it or want to install a bar behind the stove, letting it jut out a few more inches. He went back and dug up Internet pictures and called a few people, and thought this might be a safer way to go. No extra charge if we decide to install a counter strip on a second trip. Meanwhile, my GC is installing a metal plate behind the oven as we're concerned about the steam blowing on a backsplash. Install is this Thursday so we'll see how it goes. Will definitely post pictures. A bit concerned that the initial plan might look tacky. We'll see.

I tried various pans on my slide-in E'lux. My smallest pan (4.75 inches of flat part on the bottom) works on all burners except the largest one on the front right. Interestingly, this pot works on the 3 burners even if the pot is 1/2 in and 1/2 out of the rings. My next smallest pot is about 6 inches flat on the bottom (it's hard to measure because the transition from bottom to sides is rounded) and it works on the largest burner. My largest stock pot works on all burners. From what I've read, using a pot that the range recognizes but is not within the two rings is fine, but just less efficient. Casseroles in the bottom oven: I have to use foil to cover rather than the lid because the lid makes it too tall. None of my casserole / baking dishes fit in the bottom oven with their lid on. My tallest casserole, at 3.5 inches, fits fine without it's lid. As I said earlier, I elevate everything from the bottom with a small rack, which I looked at more closely, and it looks like it elevates it another inch off of the E'lux rack (the E'lux rack is barely off of the bottom oven floor). My 3.5 inch tall casserole does not fit with the extra rack, so the maximum casserole height is probably about 4 inches. I haven't had trouble with things in the bottom oven burning on the top, just the bottom. HTH

First of all, many thanks to 1cubed, writersblock, JWVideo, zacman44 for such quick responses! I've Google searched my way into this forum many times, but never needed to comment or ask questions until now. I do have to say though that the content has always been top notch, and everyone is very helpful! Hopefully I can give back some time! The general feedback here though definitely calms the nerves! In reponse to JWVideo; I actually came across a few reviews specifically for the GE Slide-In Induction Range PHS925STSS, but didn't see any video demos of the issue which is why I asked here, given that there were actual owners who had been living with it commenting on it. Zacman44 comments that flat bottom pans made a difference. Thinking about it, that makes total sense. We'll be getting a new cookset, so I'll make sure to keep an eye out for that. We're in Seattle, and the appliance company (Albert Lee Appliance) has been helpful in the past, so I'll see if they can get it set up to test before we drop the cash for it. I've seen a few other live demos of induction ranges and they look amazing, which is why we are excited to try it out. Again, many thanks for all the helpful comments and seriously quick replies!! I'll post any updates I have when we make the purchase and install one. Thanks!

Still in love! I did have a small issue last night that was slightly annoying - I made a frittata using a large, deep skillet with a slightly arched handle and discovered when I went to stick it in the top oven, the handle made it too tall to fit. The shelf in the top oven is fixed, so no way to make more room. Not a big deal, just something to keep in mind. The lower oven heats fast so it didn't delay me much to move the frittata down there. The other thing I have noticed is that the top oven bakes less evenly than the bottom, but since it doesn't have convection that is to be expected. I use it mostly for roasting vegetables anyway, and it does a great job there. I love the powerful burners and use the front corners more than anything else. However, the center burners get good and hot too, and the included griddle is great for burgers, etc. If you frequently use small (8" or less) pans, you might find the burners unwieldy because they are all fairly large, except for the back left simmer burner, but this doesn't bother me.

I apologize for not seeing this. I wasn't around much in November and December and haven't been in the appliance forum for awhile. I bet these are old questions now.

The company that manages GE repairs was very responsive. They changed the entire mother board in the cooktop... Forget the parts names. It has not had a problem since. Everything is great! I took pictures of the operation and will dig them up and post a few.

The four white disks are the induction units. The 5th brown/tan one is the 'warming' circle which is a radiant unit. And I don't mean shiny.

Thanks for the update and the pics! I'm glad to hear they got the problem resolved with the front-right burner jumping from a lower setting up to High on its own, and that the problems hasn't returned. I read a few other reviews on the GE Site of people having the same problem, but none stated if it got fixed. Sounds like a bad batch of control boards, and the replacement boards are OK. I'm still not sure when I'll replace my GE Profile radiant smooth-top with an induction, as I think I'd rather first replace the KitchenAid counter depth side-by-side with the new GE Profile counter depth french door (PYE23PSDSS, or Cafe CYE23TSDSS).

I've only had my GE Profile Induction range PHS925STSS for about a week, but all I can say is AMAZING! I had electric before, and for various reasons did not want gas - I am so happy with this range ! The induction cooktop is wonderful - water boils so quickly, everything cooks so evenly, and you can control the heat so well. Takes a bit getting used to. As for the "buzzing" noise some people complain about - this is a very low buzz when the element first gets turned on, then after you put on your pan and start cooking, I don't hear anything. Please do not negate buying this stove for that reason .
The oven is terrific - big (5.3 cu.), cooks very evenly (so far). The only caveat is that when you open the oven door at a high temp., (maybe over 400F) is very hot - so be careful. Just stand back a bit and open the door slowly.
Clean up of the cooktop is a breeze - I use one of the cream cleansers for glass cooktops, buff with a paper towel and then if need be I use Perfect Glass spray (from Bath Bed and Beyond).
I never had a warming drawer before, and although it is down low, I used it the other night when I had a big dish of roasted veggies to keep warm while I baked some halibut in the oven. It was really nice - just keep them warm. Perfect.
I would highly recommend this terrific range. So glad I went induction!
