How old is this Acer? What you describe sounds like the hard drive is struggling, do you here any noises? Give us the model # When the Acer finally boots does it run ok then?

No noises zep, just everything normally, I didn't see my post, so I posted again, sorry. I thought maybe it was some click I did without realizing it.
Acer number is 2002W, and yes, things go just fine after I finally get to the desktop, as I said, no noises, just nothing happening the way it is supposed to.

Shaddy please ignore your second thread requesting help. I had replied there before realising you had 2 threads running on the same issue. This only causes confusion.

This is more likely a software issue than anything to do with hardware.
Does the loading stop at the same spot each time?
How long after the black screen do you wait before you shut down and re-start? Leave it a little longer next time to see if it cures itself as it seems like a corrupt file.
Watch the flashing of the activity light on the front of your tower, does it stop about the same time as the black screen?

Next time this happens and you reboot take a look here once it is running
click Start
click Control panel
click Administrative tools
click Event viewer

Do not get frightened off by all the gibberish you see while doing the next bit Shaddy. Just quietly review it for clues so we can help you get this sorted out.

Now we have a new window with 2 sides, on the left side click on System.
Now look on the right side for red error messages, scrolling down if needed.
Double click on any of these to see what it says. You may not understand much of it but look for clues and any error message and error number. There is also a link underlined and in blue text, you can click on that the bring up a help page.

When you have finished there go back to the left side of the Event viewer window and click on Application and see what there is there regarding errors or warnings.

I don't remember if this is the right way to do this or not, i only do it once in a life time fellas, but this is a screenshot of the event viewer, don't see any red/blue errors? Or sumpin? Appreciate any insight into this problem that is making me tear my hair, hafta go out and blow snow now,so won't be on for a while. I sure hope I did something right today!

Shaddy, you did good, now when you got that far you are supposed to click on 'System' in the left side of that window to highlight the contents of the System folder in the Event viewer. Then look on the right side for the red error messages or yellow warnings. Don't let it get you frustrated now, steady as she goes is the way and you have already done most of the work.

That snow is pretty on cards but real life is a little different huh? I have blown mine 4 times this weekend and we have another 40 to 6 inches forecast later today so a white Christmas is guaranteed

Ok back on duty now, this is what I have so far, no red/yellows, just confusion owbist, and thanks for your taking the time out of your weekend to assist me.
Gratefully appreciated. I do appreciate the fact that I read somewhere here how to take a screenshot, and put it on the computer, is most helpful.
Can you figger out what is doing on? It shows about a month of this stuff already, not sure what it really is.
Well, got the driveway done, have an early call to pay in next town tomorrow, and hope it doesn't blow too much overnite. Was looking like an abomibable? snowman when done. I wished I had had a blower years ago, not just in my senior years!

Have you ran any scans to check for bad guys Shaddy? Like Superantispyware or Malwarebytes? Perhaps you have a couple of unwanted visitors.

Did you install any software before this started happening?

owbist, will follow advice over the holidays, am just cramped for time right now, and need time to think as well.

Will get back and let you know the results, tho I am not sure what you mean by software? There have been updates, causing the scanner printer to go flummoxing around and not doing it's job, so perhaps???

Software refers to programs you load onto the computer either by downloading them from the internet or installing off a CD or DVD. Hardware is the bits and pieces inside that big black box.
