removing geotagged photos

I recently read a thread on the cooking forum that was about gardenweb connecting with facebook. Some people were concerned about their info being shared with too many people. Specifically, someone commented that every picture that you post is geotagged, so if you have posted pictures in the past, a knowledgeable person can already tell where you took your picture. Is this true? I imagine it depends on what kind of camera you used right?

So my questions are:
1. how can I tell if my pictures are geotagged?
2. I'm sharing them on gardenweb via photobucket. Is there a way to remove the geotag feature?

If you take pics with some of the cell phones that have it as a feature.. yep that info is in its EXIF data.

Many photo editing programs will ask if you want to preserve EXIF data after you have edited a photo when you save changes to it. Some save it by default.

Firefox and probably other browsers too, can have exif reader plugins.

I posted AbouT this and how to disable it in jasdips thread called oh we are being forced.

And anyone can view the geo location info it shows up when you view the picture details.

Thanks everyone. Unfortunately this story has a sad ending. I located a beekeeper on Tuesday and he planned to pick them up Wednesday morning. When I returned home the swarm was gone. I canceled the beekeeper but found the bees again the next morning. They had moved across the way and up into my neighbor's roof. Long story short, the bees were dead by 6:15 this morning. At least I made a friend and learned a bit about bees in the process. Sorry I couldn't save these ones.

yup! most cells phones already have that capacity. i recently got a Nikon camera that has an accessory that Geotag's but after a bit of research i found out the camera actually already does this. i was happy about it but DH who is a security/privacy fanatic was shocked the camera recorded/embedded the info w/o the $100 accessory. this doesn't bother me but i do understand those who are. i think of this as another 'security' measure. i am actually shocked by how many stupid people there are who do things that are illegal or wrong then get caught thru technology but I LOVE IT LOL. hellooooo cameras, tracking, computers all of it is everywhere you can not get away from it in this country, you will eventually get caught. there are of course good sides to every bad part of technology. i grew up in an environment where i was always told everyone was watching us (political) we never ever knew privacy. 13 yrs after i moved away from chicago i finally had a trip back this past june where some stranger didn't bother me w/ questioning. ~ liz

If you have a basement and the below-grade portion of your foundation has a waterproof (like black color bituminous) coating applied to it, it would be good to extend the coating for a few inches to the top of the new grade. If you don't have a basement, you don't need to worry about keeping it dry. Keep at least 8" away below siding. You only need to raise grade 4 to 5" above what it would be 10' away from the house wall.

Birchpoint, are you trying to do it in edit? That won't work. I removed it while still in post mode. What I had been doing when I didn't want the photo was C&Ping the text and reposting in a new comment box. Maybe I had backspaced photos out after the change to Houzz but haven't done it in so long that I thought it was a new trick. The brain gets funny when it hits age 60. Let's see if I can delete a photo from my computer. Nope. I'm not able to right click on it in post mode. Missouribound, are you telling me how to remove my stored photos form my pictures folder? What I meant is how do I remove photos posted in a thread from my computer.

Sorry that post I was talking about is over on the kitchen table forum.

On my androidphone on each picture click the menu icon then you want the details click that, some give exact longitude and latitude. Iuse an app called quickpic to view pictures on android, with it when I look at details it gives The exact street address and city and state.

Go into your devices settings for the camera and unchech geo location tagging then your pictures Will no longer show location.

Thanks for your replies. It's interesting, on my android phone some pictures show the city and state, and some say that the location was unavailable. There is an option for "map" but none of my pictures show an exact location.

I also take pictures with a Sony digital camera from 2008, and I don't think that geo-tags (I checked the manual and couldn't find anything about location), but I'll keep looking.
