How do I remove just one photo from a CD/RW?

I have this problem frequently and I have to move all the photos on the CD/RW to my hard drive. Is there a simpler way to remove just one photo?

I move all the photos to my hard drive, delete the one I don't want and then make sure the CD/RW is erased and put the photos back on the CD/RW.

You could of course create a data page with all that information on and include it on the CD. A few years ago (Win 3.1 days) I created such a CD and distributed to family members. I made folders with each family group and included a data sheet in each folder. As these are older photos I assume you will be scanning them? Practice a bit before going ahead full steam and be sure to create an image at least one megabyte in size or larger in case anyone may want to print any in the future.

You need to start over. And are you sure you bought a CD-RW and not just a CD-R? Also, you can only re-write a CD so many times before it becomes corrupt. The files you originally wrote to CD are protected and probably "read only", also check what preferences you have checked on the Nikon and ScanDisk card (for what it's worth, I have two Nikon D80 and a couple ScanDisk cards-not to mention at least 4 other digital cameras and enough SD/flash cards to flll a landfill-dating back close to 10 years). Your only choice is to download them to your desktop (or someplace easily remembered for a minute) and rewrite the CD without any read/write restrictions, which can be found in properties. Also, are you deleting the files on your camera and SD card when you download to CD or your computer? If not, you have probably run out of space. Another thing, that Nikon "Picture Project" software, if you are using that, is a pain and not worth installing. It could be contributing to your problems. What program "thinks" it's your default photo editing program? That could also be causing problems. You say you are using Olympus software but a Nikon camera, did you load the Nikon software too? All these camera manufacturers have their own proprietary software (and websites), you don't need it or want it. It's better to go out and buy a copy of photoshop than have a bunch of proprietary photo editing programs on your computer, unless you know how to over-ride them, including Windows Picture and Fax program.

Lora, Open Music Match, insert your CD in your CD ROM and choose "rip from CD". Not sure how your Music Match interface is setup, but "rip from CD" is in the left column on mine.A record panel with appear, then choose the songs you want to rip and then press the record button. I think Vaska has a fragrance free detergent that should remove the odors. It works for me and my smelly yard clothes. Plus when your clothes are dried after using Vaska, they just smell clean like fabric with no fragrances at all.

what happens when you go to the desired file on the cd/rw and right click on that particular file do you get any options?

Try this:

Create a folder on the H/D and name it as you wish. Mine is called Stand By. Place your CD in the drive, most likely d:/ and open Windows Explorer. In Windows Explorer click on the numeric serial number of the CD in its drive. The contents of the CD will appear in the large right window. In the small left window click on the + in front of the C:/ drive. This will open the system tree showing the folders of the drive. Locate the target picture in the large right window, and drag and drop it to the file you newly created. From there you can do anything you want with it, and the original will remain on the CD.

You didn't mention your OS but this is two ways you can do it in WinXP Pro. No need to jump through a lot of hoops. :-)

Huge difference between "deleting" which is awfully simple. My solution is based on "remove" meaning "extract".

Hoops are for little kids while procedural steps are for adults.

The "jumping through hoops" remark I made was regarding the unnecessary steps Dahlia was taking to delete an image from a CD. And that's assuming it's a CD-RW. I showed her two simple ways of achieving that process. It has nothing to do with little kids or adults. Heck, if I get any more adult, they may as well start shoveling dirt in my face. ;-)

To answer ravencajun: when I rt cl on the photo that I want to delete I get a menu list i.e. PREVIEW, EDIT,OPEN WITH, DELETE. I cl DELETE and I get a message "This file is read-only....cannot delete....files on CD are read-only.
Does this give you any clue as to my dilemma? Thanks to all for your suggestions. I will try all

The session on the CD is apparently closed/finalized. There are means to reopen the data, but the action could put all the data at risk. Plus, you cannot reclaim the disk space without doing a full erase. Depending on the importance to you for wanting to delete the target picture it could be more trouble than it is worth. A thumb drive would be so much easier to allow you to do as you wish.
