Computer not coming on

This has happened twice this week. I turn my computer on and all I get is a blue screen. Then iI turn the tower off, which doesn't want to turn off, then when I turn it back on all is ok. I have windows 7 and an HP computer that is only about 2 yrs. old. I keep it very cleaned out and never download games, etc.
I have Windows security on it too. I know I have enough space on it yet too. Any thoughts will be apprecieated. TY.

What is "Windows security"? Have you updated and ran a full scan to eliminate that as an issue?

Check that the power plug is firmly in the wall and in the back of the computer and neither are loose.
Is there any writing on the blue screen?
Does the blue screen appear after the black screen showing a splash screen or writing?
Do you hear the single beep as the computer passes the BIOS test?
Does the activity light blink on and off during the start up sequence that fails to complete?
If you have no power on/off switch beside the power inlet at the back of the computer you can hold the start button down for a full 4 seconds to switch off the machine.

try going to control panel > administrative tools> event viewer and look at the logs there if you see any with red or yellow flags click them to find out more info and what caused the conflict. You may be able to see what is triggering the event. They will have event codes which you can look up on google.

I'm only going to respond to your non-router questions as I think you should have enough info in those other posts to make a choice. First, when your new computer is set up, plug in the new external drive to make sure it's recognized as part of that new system. It may have backup software already on it, so you could make a backup copy of your new system onto the external drive as your first step. Then, before you transfer any of the photo files, etc., to your new system, you could download and run Malwarebytes on the old computer as a precaution. Once you are sure your old system is clean, you can do your file transfer. Since you can't get your external hard drive recognized with your old computer, you'll have to do something else. If it were me, I'd get a flash drive of 4GB or larger (you can get an 8 GB drive on Amazon for less than $20). Then COPY as big a chunk as possible of those files onto the flash drive (DON'T cut and paste, as you want to leave a backup on your old computer at least until the whole transfer process is done correctly); then plug the flash drive into the new computer and copy the first batch of files to your new computer's hard drive. Then plug the flash drive back in to the old computer, delete all the files on the flash drive only, and reload it with a new chunk of files. Then load these on the new computer. Repeat until they are all loaded on to the new computer. Then, when you've transferred everything, you can copy all of them from the hard drive of the new computer to the external hard drive, which will then be your insurance policy. Second, if you have a 15 month subscription to McAfee, why complicate things? Keep it and run it. You can worry about replacing it with something else like Avast in 15 months. Just supplement it with Malwarebytes, but don't try to run another antivirus program like Avast at the same time. Also, having a router is a different issue from what ZoneAlarm software does for you. If you are running McAfee with its firewall, and occasionally running Malwarebytes, you should be fine. Also, because your knowledge of computers appears somewhat basic, ZoneAlarm may be a little sophisticated for you to make sure you are running it correctly. (I'm not trying to insult you, just trying to keep you adequately protected without making it unnecessarily complicated for you.

Mikie, I'm sure it's not the mouse. My mouse is heavy weight (logitech with red ball).I'm thinking it's the cpu that shakes when someone walks hard on the floor. Think bricks will help?

Suggestions about reading temp on fans inside computer

Video cards can exceed 100C under extreme gaming conditions. But this is not the temps on the fan as you state, this is the processor on the video card where the temps are important. You do not give any readings nor any specs on the computer. Right now my computer temps as read off the free Speccy are as follows. CPU 32C Motherboard 43C ATI Radeon graphics card with 2 fans installed on it 53C When trying to assess temps it is important to use the same program all the time, these are really only good guesses unless there is a probe installed. What did the techie say about the computer shutting down unexpectedly? What does 'on all day' mean? Is it being stressed all day by doing something like distributed computing?

Do you have the computer set to hibernate? If so perhaps stop allowing it to hibernate but set your hard drives and monitor to turn off after a preset number of minutes. To do this right click on the desktop click Properties click Screensaver click Power near the bottom of the small window set monitor and hard drive to stop after whatever minutes you feel is good set System Standby by 'Never' I am assuming you have never set a password? Personally I never use a screensaver either, that is a hangover from many years ago and is totally unnecessary now, your choice of course.

I went to the control panal and didn't find anything that said Adm. tools.
I just turned on my computer and when I came back all I had was a blue screen, no words or anything just the blue screen. It has worked fine the rest of the day.

So when you start the computer tomorrow, assuming you shut down each night, stay with it, watch and listen so you can answer my other questions.

Regarding Ravens idea click Start and instantly type event viewer and above you will see 'View event logs' click that to go to the same place. Allow the program to populate the screen, it takes time.

I went to the event log and it told me:
Level Critical... Event ID 41..Task Catagory (63)...Kernal Power ( source)
Means nothing to me.

The kernel power event ID 41 error occurs when the computer is shut down, or it restarts unexpectedly. When a computer that is running Windows starts, a check is performed to determine whether the computer was shut down cleanly. If the computer was not shut down cleanly, a Kernel Power Event 41 message is generated.

That's what the error means, sounds like the computer is shutting down, you mentioned "Blue Screen" is any information on the Blue screen?

I did look on Google for an answer and only found more wanting to know what it meant. Anyhow I took my tower apart and cleaned it and then turned it on and it came right on, but it wasn't very dusty at all. So maybe it will work ok now, who knows???
