Something I don't understand.....

I have hard drive C on my computer and hard drive D....these are partitioned by Recovery Drive E...what happens when this recovery drive gets full? Right now, I not backing up on that drive because I didn't know the answer to this question. I do backups on an external hard drive. Heck, I'm not even sure this question makes sense, but it is something I'm not understanding :o)

No, it makes sense, and you're doing the right thing. Best thing to do is to leave the recovery drive alone. This partition is used if you need to recover your operating system, and will bring your laptop or desktop back into state it was when you purchased it.

Backing up your files to an external harddrive is the best practice, since it is very likely that that they will not be re-installed once you perform a system restore.

So, you chose the right course of action.

They are in third grade and we will spend very little time on pollination, I'm just introducing the topic but I was unsure about that aspect. So the answer is that all flowering plants need to be pollinated, but some are easier to pollinate than others?

I would not use that. A gas starter is meant to start a wood fire and then be turned off. As it is now it's just a homemade gas burner, non-listed, and non-approved.

I Have the Greatest Friends!

I'm glad you have such great friends Anne! You might want to check on giving your ducts all a clean out too. When my oldest DD bought a house last Febuary I noticed dust all over the shelves that were built into every room downstairs.(its a 10 year old split-level home) Shortly after the heat guy came to check things out because she took out a program to fix the furnace, hot water heater, and appliances if they would ever give her trouble. As a single gal she'd never be able to fix a furnace if it went out in the middle of the night or something. ANYWAY, to make a long story a bit shorter the heat guy said her duct work needed to be cleaned. She was flabbergasted that such a new house would need it done already. She she called someone and had it done a week or two later. After cleaning the furnace itself, they go thru each heat duct with a rotory brush and have this big vac that sucks it all out. They said it was really bad!!! I know now she has no dust problem either.

Trying to grow ferns

Cut: I'm pretty sure this is called "thrice cut": 1'st cut: The pinna connect individually to the rachis, 2'nd cut, the pinnules connect individually to the vein of the pinna. 3'rd cut, the more developed lobes are almost completely separated at the vein of the pinnule. 4'th (not called a cut) the more developed lobes are cut part way into ?? sub lobes ?? but never cut all the way to the vein of the lobe. 5'th (not called a cut) in the largest lobes the vein in each sub lobe branches and the outer edge of the sub lobe is rippled (reaches further out at the tip of the vein) starting a fifth level of cut. In the area where the transplants from 3 or 4 years ago are almost completely failing (and many fiddleheads of ferns transplanted 2 years ago similarly fail) the common failure is that the stem shrivels up starting somewhere underground, while the small blade above still looks healthy. Once the shriveled part extends up a small fraction of an inch above the ground, the frond falls over. The failing plant still sends up new fiddleheads, most of which similarly fail. So I assume the rhizome hasn't died first, but most fronds fail starting somewhere above the rhizome but below the ground. Does that give a clue of too much or too little water or specific pests or missing nutrients? This fern type does so well in enough variety of moisture, sun, organic content, slope, and other factors elsewhere on my property, that it can't be very picky. The ones I transplanted this spring look surprisingly healthy. The ones transplanted a year ago, not much worse. This seems opposite the usual transplant behavior (most of my transplants of other perennials fail to appear the next spring. Those that return well are established and should do better the next year. I'm convinced the correct ID is hay scented fern, despite atlamol's comment. In answer to some of that: size: I haven't measured the largest. Most are under 2 feet. I think the largest are over 3 feet. habitat (wet or dry): Grew very well in the wettest spot (runoff from a roof) but also in much drier spots. None of my property holds puddles for long after a rain, so wet means wet underground not surface. deciduous shape of the blade: Very little tapper at the bottom (largest pair of pinna are second or third from the bottom). Gradual tapper to the tip. Pairs of pinna just miss being directly opposed on the rachis at the bottom, with the relative offset increasing higher up to a 50/50 alternation near the top. habit of growth: haphazard. definitely not in a line as sites have described (but not shown photos) for some ferns and definitely not an organized cluster (pictures that I think connect to the word rosette). Spores I haven't figured out yet (I may not know what to look for). Hairy, not scaly.

I have the CD's but my computer was wanting to update into that folder all the time, and I got to wondering about it getting full. Then, I backup my programs on an external drive, but was just unsure why my computer was set up to do what it was doing. My thinking was as bosaapje stated, but I wasn't sure about it and have always been meaning to ask. Thank you for the information

The recovery CD's will only re-install the Operating System on your computer. So if you do a recovery, you will start with a clean slate, or factory install. It won't recover the pictures, music, and other files. It is therfore good that you back those up to another disk other than the recovery partition.

If you don't have the recovery CD, most systems will not let you recover, so it is crucial that you hang on to those recovery CD's.

My comps have the recovery partition and came with instructions to make recovery CDs or DVDs. I did that immediately but still have the recovery partition since I don't need that space for storage. If you have the recovery partition, you really should make the CDs in case your HDD should fail. Your manual that came with your computer should have the instructions for doing that.

thanks bosaapje, i thought that was right.

about the cd's, you should make them before you change any thing on the computer, at least that is what the tech told me.

i back up some things like photos and music right away and back up everything else every 3 months routinely.

Everyone with a store bought computer should create a set of recovery disks

Not only as Grandms so wisely points out, because of hard drive failure, but also in case you get Trojans. Right now I have a wicked case of Trojans on a computer brought to me and I am afraid to use the recovery console in case that too is corrupt. And I have no reason to suppose it is not corrupt since so much of this computer is inoperable. Luckily the owner has created a set of disks so I can do a recovery if all else fails.

My laptop is 6+ months old now. I never made a backup recovery CD of my original hard drive. Should I make one now of the D drive (recovery drive) just for piece of mind?

Note: I do back up my documents, pics, and work files regularly to thumb drive and external hard drive.

Yes Debi, create you recovery CDs. The recovery partition will still be untouched by your activities unless you have specifically gone into the partition and made an alteration. Something I doubt you have done.

As you start to create the recovery CDs (with an HP computer I recently did) you will be informed of how many CDs will be needed, then follow along the very straight forward instructions.

Thanks owbist. I backed up my recovery drive to an external drive. I'll do this regularly since it only took 1/2 hour. I appreciate your help.
