Something I don't understand.....

I have hard drive C on my computer and hard drive D....these are partitioned by Recovery Drive E...what happens when this recovery drive gets full? Right now, I not backing up on that drive because I didn't know the answer to this question. I do backups on an external hard drive. Heck, I'm not even sure this question makes sense, but it is something I'm not understanding :o)

No, it makes sense, and you're doing the right thing. Best thing to do is to leave the recovery drive alone. This partition is used if you need to recover your operating system, and will bring your laptop or desktop back into state it was when you purchased it.

Backing up your files to an external harddrive is the best practice, since it is very likely that that they will not be re-installed once you perform a system restore.

So, you chose the right course of action.

bosaapje, will it bring back without recovery CDs? i always buy the CDs in case i need them.

Probably the rose will make some 8-10' canes. If you want a shrub, you cut these in half after blooming and practice "deep deadheading" consistently. After you get a lot of branches developed, the average length of new shoots may decrease somewhat. I do the same - a planting in full sun for an early harvest before the extreme heat and humidity causes my tomatoes to stop setting and a planting in partial shade for later but longer fruit production. And I also had the same experience with the Violet Jasper last year. Which was unfortunate because that tomato was terrible - mealy and almost sour tasting but INCREDIBLY prolific even after I stopped watering it, hoping it would die but feeling too guilty to pull it myself.

I would not use that. A gas starter is meant to start a wood fire and then be turned off. As it is now it's just a homemade gas burner, non-listed, and non-approved.

Sell the house. All real estate is local and it might be a fine time to sell it. We just sold a house at 98.5% asking - actually full price but closing costs/home warranty. Sold in 2 weeks to 2nd looker. Don't do a preinspection. Disclosure issues like has been mentioned. All inspectors are different - and find different things - why repair for 2 different inspectors? I bought a house 3 years ago that had a preinspection - my inspector found a few more things and the sellers were peeved at what the 1st inspector missed. We just did our own "preinspection" - meaning I walked around and found things that I was sure the inspectors would catch. I missed a lot but so did the inspector. We have a sloped slab that the HVAC sits on - not noted by inspector. We had a irrigation leak in the crawlspace - not noticed. I can't remember but there were others. We fixed a lot from my preinspection - mostly so we wouldn't scare off buyers with the number of repairs needed.

I have the CD's but my computer was wanting to update into that folder all the time, and I got to wondering about it getting full. Then, I backup my programs on an external drive, but was just unsure why my computer was set up to do what it was doing. My thinking was as bosaapje stated, but I wasn't sure about it and have always been meaning to ask. Thank you for the information

The recovery CD's will only re-install the Operating System on your computer.So if you do a recovery, you will start with a clean slate, or factory install. It won't recover the pictures, music, and other files. It is therfore good that you back those up to another disk other than the recovery partition.

If you don't have the recovery CD, most systems will not let you recover, so it is crucial that you hang on to those recovery CD's.

My comps have the recovery partition and came with instructions to make recovery CDs or DVDs. I did that immediately but still have the recovery partition since I don't need that space for storage. If you have the recovery partition, you really should make the CDs in case your HDD should fail. Your manual that came with your computer should have the instructions for doing that.

thanks bosaapje, i thought that was right.

about the cd's, you should make them before you change any thing on the computer, at least that is what the tech told me.

i back up some things like photos and music right away and back up everything else every 3 months routinely.

Not only as Grandms so wisely points out, because of hard drive failure, but also in case you get Trojans. Right now I have a wicked case of Trojans on a computer brought to me and I am afraid to use the recovery console in case that too is corrupt. And I have no reason to suppose it is not corrupt since so much of this computer is inoperable. Luckily the owner has created a set of disks so I can do a recovery if all else fails.

My laptop is 6+ months old now. I never made a backup recovery CD of my original hard drive. Should I make one now of the D drive (recovery drive) just for piece of mind?

Note: I do back up my documents, pics, and work files regularly to thumb drive and external hard drive.

Yes Debi, create you recovery CDs. The recovery partition will still be untouched by your activities unless you have specifically gone into the partition and made an alteration. Something I doubt you have done.

As you start to create the recovery CDs (with an HP computer I recently did) you will be informed of how many CDs will be needed, then follow along the very straight forward instructions.

Thanks owbist. I backed up my recovery drive to an external drive. I'll do this regularly since it only took 1/2 hour. I appreciate your help.
