Anyone using 60 foot Hide-A-Hose?

I figure the longer the better for our 3100 single story Â as long as the vac can retract it. IÂd feel better about ordering this if I heard some positive reviews.

I have the 50ft - which I thought was the longest when I got mine. It has no issues whatsoever in re-tracting it, so I doubt another 10ft would be an issue assuming you have the space for the piping to handle a 60ft hose.

We have two 50 ft hoses with a one story 2300 sq ft and had no issues with room for the pipes.

Vacuflo does not recommend the 60 foot hose, not even with their most powerful unit. I was surprised by this. The 50 foot will probably work fine. I just wanted the flexibility that would come with the extra 10 feet. :-)

One of them is the fact that I no longer have a vacuum hose lying on my floor because I don't feel like putting it away. There are a few things that you should be aware of about hide-a-hose. I have a big dog and my hose sock smells like my dog. I usually just leave it outside in the sun for about 30 minutes every few months and that helps with the smell. The other thing is that despite the answer to the last frequently asked question, a turbocat powerhead will not clean the carpet like an electric powerhead will. If you only have a little carpet this is not an issue, however if you have a lot of carpet this is something to consider. I hate to tell you this, but your installer either doesn't know this, or he isn't being truthful. The HAH hose is smaller in diameter than a regular central vac hose. The HAH hose is 1 1/4" inside diameter hose and most systems use inside 1 3/8" diameter hoses these days. This is about a 12% decrease in area. The smaller hose diameter does decrease the suction in addition to the length decrease the suction. If you get a HAH you will want a system with a lot of suction like the Vacuflo max air, Imperium CV15000-400, or Vacumaid S3600. I find that for people with a lot of hard floors will do really well with a HAH and love it.

Hi...wanted to see if I could provide some clarification on the 60' hose question from the Vacuflo point of view. The key to the performance on the Hide-a-Hose is airflow at the end of the hose. You want to be satisfied that the turbine based (TurboCat) powerhead has enough airflow to spin properly. High sealed vacuum will compensate for the long hose runs and is therefore a greater indicator of performance versus Airwatts in this specific application. The MaxAir power unit was designed specifically with Hide a Hose in mind. All power units will lose airflow as length of the hose increases. Generally speaking, it is not unusual to have performance decreases 2-3% going from 30-40' and also when going from 40-50'. That is why it s a recommended practice when installing Hide a Hose is to oversize the power unit based on length of hose. When you increase the length of hose from 50' to 60', the performance can decrease as much as 22%...just with those extra 10'...regardless of the power unit size. During our testing, the Max Air maintained the HIGHEST level of airflow at each length tested (30, 40, 50 an 60') and was the ONLY power unit that maintained adequate airflow to operate a turbine at 60'hose length. My hesitance to recommend usage for ANY power unit at a 60' length is due in large to the greater performance decrease that occurs over 50'. Will it work? Yes. Do I think it is a compromise to the best functioning system? Yes. I think it is best to look at your overall application before evaluating. If you have no carpet in your house and can more economically afford one 60' hose, then I am more comfortable with that situation than one that would require turbine use. I hope this helps. Lastly....regarding the hose sock getting dirty... I have had really good success with placing an entire hose assembly, sock and all, in the washing machine with some old towels to clean it. It washes up quite nicely. Simply lay it flat to dry, in the sun preferably.

Hi, Why would you want a 60 foot hose? I have had central sysytems in 3 homes and I can tell you those hoses can get heavy after a while. There is a weight differance between a 25, 30, and 40 foot hose as I had all 3 in my last house. I hated to use the 40 foot hose. I don't know what type of carpet you are cleaning but if it is anything but Berber, forget the air driven Turbo Cat. I was talked into buying that when I installed my last system. I hated if from the first day. I vacummed the entire house and my wife came home and had asked me why I hadn't cleaned?! We had very thick carpet and the Turbo Cat just skimmed over the carpet and did not remove any foot prints. I had always had electirc power heads and hoses before and knew this was doing nothing, and it is no more than a glorified carpet sweeper. I went out and purchased an electric set for each floor, the next day. Don't fall for the pitch that a Turbo Cat will clean as well as an eletric, as it won't. I own a reidential cleaning service and we use our own vacs unless they have central. If they have a Turbo Cat we bring in our own for the initial cleaning. It would be nothing for me to pull 5 or 6 bags of sand out of a family room with 5 boys and a lake outside. I did this in the one house and all houses using the Turbo Cat were the same. The next time we come I would bring one of my eletric sets from home and show them the difference in the carpet. They purchased and electiric set for the next time we came. I installed a Vac U Flo 960 in a 4,000 sq. foot house and that is to be installed in a 20,000 sq. foot Mc Mansion so the unit had more than enough power to run a Turbo Cat.

The first one I had was Ricar when the house was being built. They came out about 4 times. It would work when they left, but still never enough power. Then I would have trouble with the hoses not going in or coming out. Then I got electrolux to come out and they put in all new ports or outlets, and new hoses. Still not enough power and the same with the hose problems. They did do a few things in the attic with the pipes. Now I have Drainvac which is the high powered unit I got the electrician to install. Great suction power but hoses still get stuff in the pipes. If I only had clear pipes I could see where the blockage is. We have a call into the head people at the original company that installed the pipes. It was a Hide A Hose system. We are hoping they will recommend someone who really knows how the install and service them. I have almost 9k in this system now and still not happy. My sister built a new house the same time and did not want it. She has a rainbow somebody gave her. She is laughing all the time about what I am going thru. I never had any trouble before until I got Hide a Hose.

Believe me, pulling out even 50' is time-consuming and cumbersome when out; I wouldn't go with an extra 10' unless I absolutely had to. [That said, great system; love mine.]

I had read that it is easier to have fewer hoses. Two 60 foot hoses would cover our house. But maybe we should go with 3 - 40Âs insteadÂ

I don't find it hard to pull out the hose at all. Considering you can use 2 hoses for the whole house you'll be pulling about the same with 3-40' instead. All depends on the convenience you want in access to where you are as well as places to hide the outlets.

Lyfia Â That is why I am interested in the 60 ft size. If this is not difficult to use and works as expected, then we would have one hose at each end of the house Â the bedroom end, and the laundry/kitchen end. If we add a 3rd location, it will be smack in the middle of the high visibility areas (LR, FR, Entry hall) Â which I would like to avoid if possible. I was just brought up short when VacuFlo said they didnÂt recommend it...

The 50 might work Â itÂs a stretch to the farthest corner of the family room Â but that is without the wand added which may make it just fine. IÂm sort of leaning toward 2 50Âs right now and if we find they donÂt reach, then we can add a 3rd location.

Check Vaccumaid if they will allow a longer hose. That is the unit I have.

You don't want the hose to be too short as then it becomes hard to vaccum. Maybe if you look at your plan you can find a spot that is somewhat hidden still in the open areas.

Love my central vac. Wish that it was the hide a hose version. Make sure the hose EASILY reaches every place you want to use it. Also be sure to look at the dust pans. One in the kitchen is very, very handy.
