Stored Passwords Problem

Up until a week or so ago, my computer stored my passwords and logins to various sites I visit....gardenweb, facebook, yahoo, my email addresses, shopping sites, etc. Now for some reason I have to log in each and every time I visit a site. I have no idea what happened or what changed but would really like to go back the way it was. I am on a satellite connection, no one other than me uses this computer, and I use firefox.

Any ideas or suggestions on what I can do to fix this. I thought it was a cookies issue and tried to change that setting but no luck. Not sure now what to do.

Perhaps you did a clean up and cleared out your cookies?

I find quite often I need to log in here despite clicking to remain logged in, this does not happen with other sites strangely.

If you use Ccleaner (perhaps other programs too, not sure) you can protect your cookies. To do so open Ccleaner, click Options, click Cookies. Now move any cookies you want saved over to the right side for protection.

When you say you changed your cookies settings and it didn't solve the problem, do you mean that it didn't restore the automatic logins that you had before, or that you've logged in since you changed the settings, but the computer still won't remember? And what settings did you change?

I always have to login to all sites when I reopen Firefox, but that's intentional on my part: I've got my settings such that all cookies are erased when I close the browser because I don't like having cookies on my computer.

Thank you, all. We bought the moisture meter that HandyMac suggested and the moisture was pretty good in the boards we checked - about 9%. However, the wood had been stored in an outdoor, covered "garage"- think on a rural piece of property. We only looked at the boards in the already opened box, but about a third of them were a bit warped- enough that there was a little bit of gapping at one end or the other when we fit the tongue and groove together. It didn't seem excessive, but it didn't seem right either. Thanks for all your advice. We decided to skip it since it didn't seem perfect and we aren't knowledgeable enough to determine when the damage is minor vs when it will cause problems.

Sorry for the delay in responding...Christmas prep got in the way. I do appreciate the responses.
Owbist, I did not do a "clean up" don't really know how other than delete temp files and de-frag which I have not done lately. I delete temp files pretty regularly just don't have a set schedule to do it. Perhaps I should?
kudzu9, I didn't do anything to the cookies until the log-in's changed. Then I don't remember what I did, but have since changed the tools/options/security to "remember passwords" and still have the problem. I also have the cookies setting on the control panel internet options set for medium.
I am sorry I can't be specific about what I did, I just don't remember. I have tried so many things to fix the problem that I am now considering doing a system restore and see if that works. I thought someone would have a suggestion of what to change where to get the automatic log-ins to work again.
Again I appreciate the help.

You aren't by any chance using Norton identity safe to store your log in's are you? I ask this because I use Norton security and use the identity safe and a few weeks ago or so there was a norton program update and the identity safe was not working right after with some of my sites so I got on the norton forums and someone addressed it and said there was a known issue and they would look into then a few days later it started working so they must have made and update to correct it. SUCCESS!! Problem solved. Seems it was a setting in Firefox that got changed by those pesky little PC Gremlins. Made that change back and all is well. Must have happened when I tried to download an update to Firefox.

Glad you got it fixed. Write down what you did so you'll remember next time.

Also, it's good you didn't create a new problem by doing a system restore. System restore works well when you want to go back to previous settings of your operating system, but it wouldn't have changed anything in your Firefox browser.

Good for you. So other members may be aware, what setting change?

Bet it was on the History portion of the Privacy tab.

DA, exactly. Custom settings allow cookies. So simple yet such a pain to figure out.

Kudzu, I did write it down! And I didn't think it through that a system restore would not have fixed the problem. Too much going on right now and I was just tired of having to log in each and every time.

Thank you all for the help. Now I need to figure out what is wrong with the camera in my laptop. Always something isn't it??
