downloading malwarebytes fre version-trouble

I got another computer- I took Norton off. I am going to the 'malwarebytes.org' site to download the free version. Everytime I try to download the free version it takes me to a 'cnet' site. I don't think I am supposed to use that one.

Right now I am not covered- scary.

I had this same problem before but can't find the thread where you guided me to the right place to download mal. free. Thanks

Depending on the website you are on you could be redirected to the CNET Downloads page.

However it appears that since you removed Norton that is your antivirus program and not to be confused with Malwarebytes. You need to download a free antivirus program like AVG or Avast.

yes it does send you to cnet for the download that is fine, on the linked thread I provide a link to a nice tutorial on how to get it, install it, update it and use it.

Do not mistake malwarebytes for a replacement for your antivirus program it is not. It is an antimalware scanner but you still need to have an updated running antivirus program on your computer. I currently use AVAST free
when you removed Norton did you use the special Norton removal tool? if not you will need to do that prior to installing a new antivirus program to get all the left over bits of Norton out, it is very hard to remove all of it.

Well, I believe that they are exceptional, or I wouldn't have used them, but I am expecting that TM Internet Security is going to be doing the same things for me that those other programs would have. In fact, on its first scan, it did find 112 things to fix, which Malwarebytes hadn't found, in spite of my having had it do a scan every morning.

you mention adding charter security suite, did you fully remove the other antivirus programs you had on the pc with the specific removal tools for that program? That is one thing that will definitely cause these kinds of problems. What was the antivirus program you had before you put on charter? And yes the large antivirus suites can very much slow down performance. Computers are built with various fans some are just for the extra work and only kick on when they are needed so it is not uncommon to hear one come on when doing anything that requires more usage of the cpu. It might be a good time to go ahead and do as suggested and open it up and clean it out, even sitting in storage bugs and stuff can get in boxes. Also use a program like startup lite by the makers of malwarebytes to check your start up items and possibly whittle those down. StartUpLite Have you run an updated malwarebytes scan lately? if not definitely do so. How to download and install Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware application for Windows computers malware can also over tax a computer. with your firefox as I mentioned earlier you definitely should add those items I suggested.

crafty lady, I have a folder the unzipped files go to, not crowding the desktop, then I can do them at my leisure. Never any probs previously, and still think it is the site doing this, as when I use my FF browser, have no problems at all, can change from media files, to win RAr and it stays when clicked, as won't do when I use IE. Am not having any luck going to Accessories, etc., to change the titles either, so what else can I do? I also do save target as, and always went directly to zipped folders, now becomes a movie clip, even before I can download.

Update: more trouble shooting led me to check the DSL speed. The download was about 7 Mbps, and satisfactory but the upload was as low as 80 Kbps - discussing with the Teleco technical support (Century Link) the evening of Thursday last, led to the diagnosis the Telephone modem was malfunctioning, in fact it completely stopped working on the power-down/up test. The CL representative could not provide any access to a replacement modem, but they would ship me one for $15 three days (bet business days, so not until Monday or Tuesday). They could ship overnight for $25. I told them ship 3 day I'm checking with Comcast an may move my service there. I up an running on Comcast at a so-called 105 Mbps which checks out closer to 15 mbps, about the same up/down. Not sure what the 105 Mbps is about. The good news cable, Comcast/Xfinity, was able via over the counter purchase at Walmart of a Cable Modem to put me back in service over my existing TV cable access in a matter of minutes. Down side, we don't want to change our email address. I will check to see how low a price I can get from Century Link and retain my email/ISP account. So far the browser works great.

bboom and raven- I did use the removal tool raven, but am not sure which Norton I have- I don't see which one listed in the pamphlet, so I tried 2009. Do you think it might have been 2010? I did put AVG Free on, just because I couldn't get Avast to download, so I am ok for now.
When I 'saved' the malware, it shows up as 'mbam-setup exe from software-files-cnet.com'. It is 4.61 MB I get confused because there is no longer any name that tells me it is malware- I worry that I might have been taken to another site.

That is the correct download. Now to install it, just double-click on the setup file. "mbam"=malwarebytes.
