No HP Devices have been detected.

Hello,

My sister has an HP Photosmart c3135 all in one printer. When she goes to all programs and goes to HP then to HP Solution Center and she clicks on it she gets this message ,"No HP Devices have been detected". She is wondering why the HP Solution Center gives her this message?

She is concerned that if she uninstalls the software that she will lose her pictures that she has saved on her computer.

I am wondering if she didn't have it in the software that came with her all in one printer. Does anyone know about this particular printer and if it came with the Solution Center?

Please try to explain this as simply as possible, her husband installed the printer and he just passed away Thanksgiving Day and she is trying to figure this out and doesn't know what to do. I have an HP All in one but it isn't the same model, so I can't help her out.

You probably need to post more information, such as Vista or XP, whether the printer will print, etc. Has IE 7 been installed? There is apparently a problem with this and other HP units and Internet Explorer 7. And there are different solutions for Vista versus XP. To avoid the possibility of losing pictures, suggest they be copied to another location on the computer or onto another storage device. I have included the HP web page that discusses solutions -- if IE 7 has been installed -- but it may be too early to use that approach -- without more info. To see the version of IE on the computer, after starting IE click on Help and About Internet Explorer.

That model does use Solution Center, but the pictures and scans should be going into her My Documents folder. How does this printer connect (USB or Wireless)?

I am sorry, I guess I have misunderstood your question..There used to be allot of complaints of business's and computor repair techs coming here for free help..I thought you was asking if I was a tech or if I was repairing my personal pc.. My problem was a corrupt file in the driver..The link above helped me find the driver I needed..I found the file by going to- Start-Control Panel-Sounds and Audio Devices then the Hardware tab..I clicked through the names of the hardware files and one said something like file not found or not working correctly..Then I right clicked it and deleted it..Then I went to the link above and clicked my PC model in the list and looked through the audio drivers and found the name of the one I deleted and downloaded/installed it..Then it was working fine... I truly am sorry for flying off the handle like I did..I just took your question the wrong way..Sort of felt like you was asking who are you to post on my message board, lol Hope you all had a great Thanksgiving..

I'm currently reading "Game of Thrones", and really enjoying it. Terriks, I know exactly what you mean about the "porn" in the first episode--we got the 1st season on DVD (no HBO at our house...) and I was sort of appalled. However I liked the overall story so we stuck with it. Interestingly the later episodes did not have nearly as much--perhaps they felt like they needed to reel in a certain kind of viewer at the beginning. Eew! I also enjoy mysteries. Recently I enjoyed the "Lincoln Lawyer" series of books by Michael Connelly. There are five that follow that character. Some of my favorite "special" books I've read from over the past year: "City of Thieves" a great coming of age novel by David Benioff set during the siege of Leningrad. "The Whistling Season" by Ivan Doig. I LOVED this book, but I have to confess some of my book club buds were just okay with it, since it it not super plot-driven. If you like books about interesting people you just want to spend time with, and beautifully crafted language, this is great. Funny and sweet and wistful, narrated by a man looking back at a special year in his childhood in rural Montana. Especially good to read if you are a teacher. "Unbroken" by Laura Hillenbrandt. Pretty harrowing non-fiction, but really fascinating, too. "Any Bitter Thing" by Monica Wood. Our book club read this and every person loved it. I've also recommend it to several people, and they all loved it as well. It can be a little hard to find unless you order online, and none of us can figure why it didn't become a huge bestseller. It has some mystery elements to it, but it's more than that. Happy reading to you all, and thanks for the suggstions

False ground on plug-in GFCI device?

I tested another plug-in 6-outlet device I had around, and it also tested with what appears to be a false ground. I agree with ronnatalie that those cheapo testers are not particularly reliable as I had one that apparently had one bulb that was burned out and was not detecting reverse polarity. Nevertheless I purchased another one that I believe is currently working okay as by testing various outlets and devices I have determined that there are no burned out bulbs. However, I do not agree that the testing methodology can be the whole problem, especially since the probe tester also shows a ground-to-neutral connection. The thing is that the 2 devices that looked as if they have a false ground are recent purchases, where as older devices appear to be okay. I agree with davidr that there is probably a manufacturing issue, and I just do not trust the 2 devices that are showing a neutral-to-ground connection, especially since every other surge strip and power tap I had around the house tested okay. (And I have quite a few of these.) I happened to have one other 6-outlet power tap that did not show a ground-to-neutral connection, so I decided to use it. If I can find the receipts I may try to return the 2 devices I think may be faulty. In the future I will test every plug-in power device as soon as I buy it and return it if it appears to have a neutral-to-ground connection.

Take a look in the system's Add?Remove utilityt and see if the Solution Center is listed.

If it is look on the C:/ drive under Program Files for Hewlett-Packard>Digital Imaging>Bin>hpqdirec.

This should be the executable file for HP Solution Center. Try clicking on it. My though for now is the Desktop icon and/or Startup Menu link may be corrupt.

Hi there fruitjarfla,

I'm very sorry for overlooking the OS that she has. She has Winxpsp2 and Internet Explorer 7. Her computer is an HP as well. If I remember correctly she purchased her HP all in one about a year before I purchased mine and they are nothing alike. I have the c6280.

You sent me a link "The HP Director Window Does Not Open in Windows XP". I don't know about this, does this go along with the Solution Center or is this something different for the Solution Center?

I will have to call her to see if she has that in Add/Remove programs, if she does not then what?
I know it is listed in All Programs because I had her go to All Programs and she found it there and that is when she discovered that the Solution Center wasn't working.

I will have to call her to find out for sure if she uses the USB or Wireless. I don't believe she is connected by wireless but I will have to call her to make sure what she has.

So it looks like I am going to have to call her and get more information from her before I can go any farther. You all have given me some good questions to ask her, right now it is hard for me to get through this with her under the circumstances. She does seem to be overwhelmed with all of this since she is also dealing with her loss and all the paperwork that she has to go through besides. I will do the best that I can and will get back with you as soon as I find out anything.

I will return back here after I go through this with her.

Go to HP website, and get online with a tech from the company, they can guide you thru anything, as I am just coming from that last week. Very kind, understanding, and helpful to boot.
There is no problem with the language, as all is typed, and they keep asking questions to help you further identify the problem.
This would be so much easier for her to start with learning how to deal with things herself, I am always afraid, and anxious I will do the wrong thing. This is a sure fired way to find out what is going on.

Good suggestion, Shaddy. I have found the online tech help from HP to be very good. Have had to use it several times and always found out what I needed to know.

Wow that is a real problem Google this ("No HP Devices have been detected") the whole sentence.

I actually worked in support for the HP All-in-ones a few years back before they outsourced my job to India (a little too much info âº). When we got this call, the first thing we did, was check the connection, making sure that all cables were tight and the printer was turned on.

If it is a USB connection,in the Printers and Faxes folder, find the printer, right click on it and delete it. Now unplug the USB cable and reboot the computer before plugging it back in. This will reinstall the drivers of the printer without removing all that Solution Center software. That fixed 90% of all issues.

If it is a wireless connection, just run the wizard from the face of the printer.
