I was ready to speculate that the problem might be the router, until you said that the roku and ipad work fine. Especially odd is that the signal drops with an Ethernet connection, that's rare. The processing of wired vs wireless connections use different parts of the hardware inside the PC. Having problems with one doesn't cause problems with the other. Have you installed anything new recently? Do you have a robust security product active and updated? I'd do the standard of rebooting your router and modem (if separate), that sometimes can shake out problems. I wonder if doing a rollback using Restore might help? I'm otherwise stumped, sorry, maybe someone else can help.

Right as I mentioned my phone has the ability to create a hotspot for tethering but the unite provides more connections to it and also as shown in the article (pictures of speed tests) has much much better speeds and a very long lasting battery (very similar to using a home router). Using the cell phone for tethering multiple devices is often slow going and can not last as long as the battery on the unite. If I only used it rarely that would be ok but when we are traveling I am on the unite exclusively for the entire trip long term and the difference between it and the phone hotspot is significant and worth the price for it. Verizon has a similar offering too. I was curious if there were any other stand alone options other than ones that had to be part of an existing phone plan as I have now. That way I could go with a cheap cell phone plan and a separate stand alone wifi device plan. I have seen that you can get the unite as a prepaid version and use the cards you buy for minutes. That is something I am looking at. I would ideally like to separate the two so I can really drop down in the cell phone rates since we really don't use them much. I like having my smart phone but I can live with less there but not with out my portable wifi device. I did try just using the cell phone hotspot tethering but it just does not compare to using the unite. It is provided in my plan and on my phone so I can use that option anytime. Once you have experienced the difference between those 2 options it is hard to not have the unite and just go with phone hot spot.

I didn't read every comment but I had to literally laugh out loud at the mention of a man cave and why is there no female equivalent? I grew up with a crafty mom, every house we lived in had a sewing room or craft room for her. It wasn't until I was 12 or 13 that my dad finally got an office or "man cave" so to me it is perfectly normal! I guess my family was ahead of its time! ;) Even though I grew up with that and I would love to have my own personal room for my stuff, it just isn't practical. I have a mudroom/laundry room where we are going to be building some cubbies for the jackets and backpacks that currently end up on an unused chair in the kitchen. We will also be building a command center/desk area for me to sort and manage bills and the household in general. I scrapbook and I have a nice little corner in our bedroom with my desk and all my scrapbook supplies. All of my gift wrapping supplies are kept in the basement and, like funkycamper, I frequently use my pool table as an area to wrap gifts. Of course I also only use wrapping paper for Christmas. Every other gift for every other occasion gets thrown in a gift bag with some tissue paper. All of my family and friends know that I save and reuse all of that so I don't even have to ask anymore, they just know to not crumple that bag or tissue paper and throw in the trash because I'm going to put it right back in the closet and pull it out for the next occasion. :) My hubby on the other hand has his own dedicated office. He frequently works from home (IT/network technician) and his office not only holds everything he needs to work from home and do all of the side jobs, building custom gaming rigs and such, it ALSO contains the server, routers, switches, WAPs, and printers for our house. So while he has his "own space" per se, it is also being used by the entire family, even if they aren't actively aware of it. Households are evolving and we must change the way we lay out or houses accordingly.

Ability to receive OTA (Over-The-Air) broadcasts is based on things in addition to distance. I live about 60 miles E of NYC, and can receive most, but not all broadcast channels from there (I even sometimes get reception from a station in NJ!). In most areas now, there are no longer any low-band VHF stations (channels 2-6), but many UHF stations. So I got a high-band VHF antenna and a UHF antenna and mounted them on a 20 foot mast. I also got the best preamp I could find for under $200. I put this assembly on my west-facing deck and ran an RG6 cable into the house where the other half of the preamp and the TV are located. This setup works pretty well, although sometimes the sound drops out, but I can live with that. I intended to move this to the roof, but that's 40 feet off the ground and I'm scared to climb up there! (Remember, that after the digital conversion of broadcast stations, most changed their frequencies. In the NYC area, all the high-band stations stayed where they were, but the low band ones, including CBS, NBC, and Fox, all changed their broadcast frequencies to ones in the UHF band, but kept their old channel numbers in their logos. Modern digital TVs will search for all stations and display the old station numbers, even though they are using the new ones).
