Just open the door a bit - all action will stop immediately. just don't yank the door open because some water might splash out.

A mirror held under the DW's door can help you to detect leaks, too.

If I open the door mid-cycle, it will keep beeping until I close the door again--which I don't want to do.

Do I just hit on/off once the door is open? Or do I have to hit the two outside buttons to "cancel drain" and then hit the on/off button?

I just found this language in an online users manual:

Canceling or Changing a Cycle:
To cancel or change a cycle, press and hold for
three seconds the two buttons labeled âÂÂCancel
Drainâ as shown in Figure 18.
Wait approximately one minute, then press the
On/Off button
You may now begin a new cycle.

Just turn the machine off if the buzzer annoys you. :)

Yes you can hit the off button to stop the beeping. But I recommend that you disable the audible signal completely. What is so darned important about the machine being done with the dishes? It's like there's an annoying little German taskmaster in there demanding that you put the dishes away NOW! How annoying is that? It's not like the dishes are going to climb out of the machine and take off on you because you were too lazy to put them away before bedtime.

To turn off the alarm, first turn the machine off. Then, press and hold the right cancel button and then press and hold the on/off button until the cancel light comes on blinking. Release both buttons, now push the right cancel button to cycle through the various beep volumes. You will hear the annoying screech get progressively louder until, finally, a push of the button yields blessed silence. You press the on/off button once more to memorize the silent setting.

Also, when you are down there poking around for that leak, just be careful. Remember that even though you have the power button off, 120V still lurks underneath the machine. If you have to stick your fingers or tools down there, unplug the machine or cut the breaker first.

As for the repair: the guy came and looked at it. I told him where the leak was, and he said it was the drainage hose as expected, which he then confirmed. The only problem was his suggested solution, which I didn't have time to research. So, instead of merely replacing the hose, he suggested I change it to have it drain into the disposal, and he would also put in a high loop. All of this would be instead of the current install which uses a Johnson Tee, something peculiar to this area.

If I went back to the Johnson Tee, he said the leak would happen again in a couple years because the dishwasher is being pushed against the hose in back.

So, now it's hooked up to drain into the disposal. I'm not loving how you can hear it draining several times but it's better than living with the uncertainty that it will leak again--and not when I happen to be standing there.

Put the cover on the sink drain and you'll hear it a lot less.

Johnson tees for this purpose are peculiar in EVERY area! Bad news configuration.

Fix/replace the hose including a high-loop. Easy, quick, cheap. What's the problem? Suspect when you get it right the noise may abate at least a little. In the mean time you will have avoided a flood-risk.

Thanks all. Yes, I ran it last night with the drain covers on and I didn't hear it draining. I'll put them on next time a little more loosely as it was very hard to break the suction to get them off.

While I did go with the easy fix (getting rid of the Johnson Tee, draining into the disposal, and putting in a high loop), I wouldn't call it a cheap fix. Considering the hose was about $25, I was surprised at the final fill.

Good warning Mojavean. I hadn't even realized that the power cord was down there until I took off the toe panel. Repair guy grumbled about that, too, since it was only hard wired--and apparently whoever put notes on my electrical panel switched the circuits for the dishwasher and the disposal. Luckily repair guy had a meter so he knew the electricity to the DW was still on. Could have been very messy.
