Setting up my notebook

Thanks to bee4mee and raven, I have instructions for setting up the Asus 1005H but need some step by steps if possible.

bee4mee suggested removing Norton before I connect to the internet. I bought a 4 GB flash drive...can you please tell me how to save the removal tool to the flash drive? And how do I run it from there?

Hello james 001, It sounds like a Drosera adelae since it has root clones. The adult plants only live a couple of years, so if it is growing root run plantlets, it might be an adult near it's life end trying to propagate itself before dying. The young plants usually live as their roots detach from the parent after they start growing. If in doubt, you can dig the entire bunch up and check the young plants, detaching them with a length of root each and replanting them. They should survive and grow to adult size in about 3 months if they are adelae. I had one adelae 5 months ago that has started dying, however; is still propagating itself into about 28 plants... Every day I check, there are more plants growing. After I uprooted them and detached a bunch of roots, they went crazy and started cloning themselves in overdrive.

I would suggest you have the workmen set up the furniture. If they set it up and it doesn't fit or work correctly you have recourse. If you accept the furniture before it's been assembled, you won't be able to object to missing components, parts, scratches etc, because you have already signed off on the items. Also there is sometimes an issue if these large entertainment units are installed on thick carpet. Sometimes the units have to be shimmed, leveled, or anchored properly to keep them from tippling over. You'll have plenty to do with making sure you have all your TV components, cable boxes, game boxes, receivers, speakers etc. ready to be plugged in and working properly.

I think it looks great considering the space limitations and size of the sectional. The only thing I would do is remove the grey armchair. Then, swap the items to the left and right sides of the fireplace with each other. I would also do little edits by shifting your photos and artwork closer to the couch.

It can be a challenge for sure. My two young adult sons are both in studios, different configurations and they have different needs for their spaces. So, what are your needs? Do you do any work at home? Do you need space for some kind of computer, laptop, tablet? Do you use your device to do all your life management like pay bills, make appointments, etc? Or do some things require paper, pen, and maybe storing the paper? Do you have a tv, or does your computer device screen suffice? Do you game? Stream? with friends in person? Do you cook/bake? Do you need to accommodate books or the like? How’s the view out that wonderful wall of windows? How long is the wall between the bathroom and the living room? Would a bed fit, either lengthwise or widthwise? Are there any vents or electric breaker boxes you need to account for? (My sons have radiators, and especially for one of them, the radiators really throw a wrench in furniture placement.) One of my son’s studio actually has the kitchen around a corner, which is nice. The other one found a screen to separate his kitchen (he is not good about dealing with dishes, but also there is so little space, a lot of things end up sitting out.) So, how tidy are you? Do you have a piano keyboard? Seems like an odd question, but my one son has to accommodate one. There is only one closet, is it enough for your clothes? Does your climate call for seasonal outerwear? Would a set of drawers in the closet be enough for you, or will you need a set of drawers or a wardrobe in the living area? Do you need to accommodate a bicycle or scooter?

let us know if you need help. I was doing the same thing today, I got my husband a new Acer Aspire Laptop for Christmas and it came loaded with McAfee so I had to use that removal tool and clear it out and some other junk I did not want on there. I just wish they would come with the OS and little else.

I am having to learn windows 7 and I tell ya it is easier for me to work with linux than 7 whew it is stressing my old brain to find where stuff is.

owbist and raven, thank you for your offer. I will take you up on it because I do have a couple of questions. Wow, this is going to be a fun toy! I have ordered a mouse and will be glad to have it....I keep touching something I shouldn't on the touchpad and everything disappears. :)

I was able to remove Norton, MS Works and Office and got all my security programs installed first thing. I tried Thunderbird, and even though I tried to duplicate the settings from my desktop computer, I was having a problem with the smtp in my outgoing, so I just decided to take bee4mee's advice and use webmail.

I want to install something to edit photos with. I have an ancient Olympus program that I like for quick edits (resizing, cropping, etc). I copied it from the disk onto a flash drive(using the Send to command), but I don't know how or where to put it on the notebook. I need to know the same thing for Microsoft Works 2000, please. Also, at the end when I've transferred it, how do I remove it from the flash drive?

raven, your husband will be happy to have his new Acer Aspire laptop. He'll be busy with it all day on Christmas. :) Do you think you will like Windows 7 when you get used to it?

You could try downloading Picasa from Google or IrfanView, both free and can be used for basic editing. Picassa will also find your pictures for you.

Pam, Would you mind explaining how you used the Norton removal tool by using a flash drive? Does that mean you didn't have to download the removal tool into your computer then? I'd prefer that, I think, so I'm curious. Or maybe I'm confused. : P Thanks.

I like Joan's suggestion as to the applications she shares. I use both in my rare photo publishing, and there are several others out there which are free and quite capable.

As far as the "ancient" Olympus application prepare yourself for the potential of it not working on the new system. Even if it still does, please give some thought to trying out these other applications. You might enjoy them. They are both available at filehippo.com.

I used the McAfee removal tool by a flash drive, I went to the download page for it, saved the file to my desktop pc (did not open or activate it), inserted my flash drive, moved the removal tool file to the flash drive(right click on the file select send to and chose my flash drive), used the safely remove icon to remove the flash drive, put the flash drive into my laptop, saved the file from it to the laptop, safely removed the flash drive, went to the file on the laptop and used it from there.

I'm sorry I didn't make it back to answer your question. Flash drives are new to me and I'm still stumbling with it. I'm glad raven answered you quickly.
