kashmi - your dealer is an idiot, plain and simple. steam doesn't matter ???? ask him the worst possible thing that can be trapped in today's tightly built homes? He won't know cause he's an idiot but it's warm, moist air. You wouldn't consider not having a fan in your shower/bath - why? Warm moist air. Now, cooking steam doesn't present near the amount or problems a shower does but to say steam (from cooking) doesn't matter is ridiculous. What about odors? Grease is not the only thing that smells! Now, as to the height of the downdraft extension- sure taller is better all other things being equal (which often they are not). It gives a broader capture area for that steam and grease because the filter area is generally larger on a taller vent. On some you can vary the height of the extension so you'd have the best of all worlds: catch the grease that your sales weasel is soooooooo concerned about AND catch the steam ABOVE that skyscraper lobster pot. Be wary of this fella.

A pan shouldn't do that under normal use. If you had the burner on highest and put an extrememly cold item into it, it could warp as you describe due to temp changes. Otherwise, it was defective and you should return it for another brand of cookware.

I saw the newest Wolf induction cooktop and I was impressed with its versatility. Specifically, I am speaking of model CI365T/S. I really like the burner layout with the four burners that can be bridged on one side and a larger oval burner on the other side. It offers what seems to be the most flexible layout. There are other induction cooktops with "flexible" zones but they are in a layout that is less versatile, most commonly with a large round hob in the center and the flexible zones on either side. My building does not have gas so when I upgrade, I will be looking at induction. As of now, I think the Wolf is my favorite but I am a year or two out and something new may change my thinking.

You might be able to have the glass top replaced, you'll need to call appliance repair shops and ask. As far as fixing that top, if it's yours, put a dab of silicone on it and start saving for it's replacement. If it's a clients, you're not getting out of it that easy.
