Well, I'm no expert on how all the different spyware removal tools work, but the one I use will repair files that become messed up by spyware. Maybe that's part of the problem for you.

Another thing I do is defrag more often--like once a month, just to be sure the files don't get too fragmented from all the program deletions.

Are you saying that when you click some Google icon that My Documents opens, or that My Documents is showing up as the Home Page instead of Google with Firefox.

Yes, Trojans can leave residue and even renew or reinstall themselves.
That's why it's best to turn off System Restore, reboot and then turn System Restore back on. You'll lose all previous restore points, but they where most likely corrupted, unless you can go back to a time before the Trojan was installed.

I set Google.com for my home page, the page that comes up when you turn on your PC. Now when I reboot, my documents comes on instead of Google, the Google page is under it. I did turn off my Systems restore before I scanned. I have since run The Cleaner twice and it comes up clean. It is a scanner especially for Trojans. I think I need to contact them with this question.

Some how it looks like a registry entry changed occurred using that cleaner and know when you boot the My Documents folder is opening- I don't expect you to do the registry change in the link provided, but it would be the first thing to check or have someone else check. I would be curious of the exact name of that cleaner tool you used and did the tool give you an option to create a back up of the registry before using it.

I saw it I am downloading it now, I want to see if it creates a back up. You have no restore points left right?

Seems to me at $50 that your 'The Cleaner' has failed you. As I understand the program it is supposed to stop incoming in the first place.

Does this run at set intervals and does it seek updates to it's definitions without you having to act?

This is the fix you need to do get someone to help you if you are not comfortable in the windows registry--I thought Kelly's corner had a fix but I could not find it. This is in the link I gave you and is the first place to start..

Problem:
When you start your computer My Document appears at Start Up.

CAUSE:
It happens if there is a registry change in the Userinit value.

RESOLUTION:
1.Start>Run>Regedit>ok

2.Now navigate to the following key:-
HKEY_ LOCAL_ MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Win­dows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon

3.Look down the list in the Right Hand pane,scroll down to the value Userinit This value should read: C:\WINDOWS\system32\userinit.e­xe, (The comma at the end must also be there)

4.If the value is different from that mentioned above then Right Click on the Userinit value and, from the drop down menu, select Modify. Type in the value C:\WINDOWS\system32\userinit.e­xe,in the Modify dialogue box click OK

5.Exit the Registry.Restart your computer.

owbist, I believe I know you by another name. I understood The Cleaner was just a scanner, it doesn't prevent. I update it myself and do not have it set to run, I have to do it myself.

I do have system restore points but that doesn't work.

Zep, I researched and found the same info you posted. I also found a lot of other info. One thing will work on one computer, but not on another.

Don't know if this is revelant to the situation, BUT I use
"Crap Cleaner" . It removes a lot of stuff and I have to redo my security answers to my financial institution each time I run it. I also have "The Cleaner" from worldstart.com
which cleans up e-mail prior to forwarding. Grady

The Cleaner took care of the Trojans. And I solved the problem with the document folder opening on boot up. It wasn't the "My Documents", it was a small folder on my C drive that I no longer used. I backup the folders in case, wrote a short note in word pad and saved in the now empty folder and rebooted. The folder came up with the note I put in it, then I looked in all of my document folders until I found my note, then deleted that folder and rebooted. Problem solved. Thanks again for the help.
