That happened to me on my PC desktop. I had a port which either didn't work at all or occasionally worked but would stop and start. I was still under warranty with Dell and they wound up sending someone out who said the port was no good. I remember he had to take the machine apart to put in a new usb. This was a few years ago but I remember being surprised how much work he had to do to replace one usb port. I could be wrong, but I recall the motherboard being involved. The work was done at my house. I would call Apple, it isn't an easy fix. Jane

I am also an AMD person and much prefer AMD processors to Intel, just my personal preference from my experience with both types, the turion is a much better processor than the celeron, and this is a faster processor, it is a 64 bit also instead of 32 which is a plus AND it is a dual core which is very good. The video card is not top of the line by Nvidia but it is decent. It has 3 gig RAM which is good since it has Vista on it. the 160 GB hard drive is a nice roomy size having a built in media card reader is a plus you can just take the memory card out of any camera and stick it in and upload the pics to the pc. Plus you can use memory card as extra storage and backup along with usb flash drives or hard drives. It is not loaded down with a ton of crap wear either, I would get rid of the wild tangent myself. over all it seems to be a pretty decent little laptop for the price. It is fine for basic use for sure and should be pretty fast. if you are getting there at office depot be sure you remember to print out those rebate forms.

Thanks so much for the offer, Bob. We do have Cox Cable, and it is connected to the TV monitor. Our VCR-DVD is a Toshiba DVR620KU, and the TV is a Samsung Led TV monitor, SyncMaster, series 3, TA350 and series 5, TA550, whatever that means. I don't know which letters and figures may be useful, so am repeating them all. I am sorry for not having gotten back to this problem for several months. There has been illness in the family, as well as computer problems, which are now solved, hopefully, with the aid of a friend, and what with personal problems and job demands, I just didn't feel like concentrating on the TV/recording problem. What I want most now, and can't do, is to record TV shows. Not HD or HBO or anything--just a few KPBS or sit-com things. Our TV cable service is basic. A visitor showed me that with an HDMI cable, I can watch tapes and DVDs from the Toshiba unit, a step in the right direction. However, I seem unable to bring up anything on the TV screen that will let me record to either the tape or the DVD. There is no place to plug in a coaxial cable to the Toshiba, so I figure that any recording would have to be from signals sent from the TV. (In fact, even if I could send signals directly from the cable connector in the wall to the Toshiba, there would still be no way to select channels to be recorded.) The problem is that all the ports and other places for hitching the TV to the Toshiba are labeled "IN" and, unlike our old TV, there are none for "OUT". Well, Bob, or any other kind person, does it seem that there may still be a way to record to the Toshiba device? Even to be able to record to VHS tapes would be great.

Thank you zep516....I have done all things you mentioned many times in the past.....it just won't clear....it started a couple of months ago...for no reason....I guess I should have a computer repair take a look at it. It is Vista Dell Laptop and I have had it for 8 yrs and never had a problem....I bought a Dell Laptop Windows 10 last week and had to return it after three hrs...it had a virus.....it was so upsetting...I took it back to Staples and three customer services told me I did the right thing....they could not figure it out either. I got a complete refund....
