Counter-depth french door fridges without a deli tray?

Are there any such fridges that are not >$3,000? I know the Liebherr etc. are laid out like that but I don't want to spend so much (even when I found one for "only" $3,800 on sale).

Try the Samsung. I just purchased one from Lowes that was 20% off ($579 discount). Waiting for delivery. In my opinion, they appear to be the most solid of the bunch. And they have been consistently winning the JD award for customer satisfaction. They also have the most cubic feet per outside dimensions of comparable other brands.

I don't want a water dispenser in the door exterior (sorry, forgot to mention that) so the Samsung is out. I do want water though, so the 33" Samsung is out too.

And I would like 2 evaporators (a higher priority than no deli tray).

I purchased a new KitchenAid counter depth side by side (72" tall, 36" wide) back in 2006 because at the time it was the largest capacity I could find in a counter depth (24.5 cu ft). In the 6 years that we've had it, it has work fine in regards to cooling and keeping proper temps. But we have had the mechanical ice maker replaced 3 times under extended warranty. The fridge area is 15 cu ft and fits everything in it just fine. Our issue is with the freezer compartment on the left. Even though its 9 cu ft, it is very narrow in width, which makes it difficult to get a lot of larger items in the freezer. It has 3 shelves on top and 3 baskets below it, so we keep frequently used items on the shelves since that is at arms length, and packaged meats/chicken in the lower baskets. We've been thinking if we ever replace it, to get a french door, but it would still have to be a counter depth, so it doesn't stick out as much as standard-depth units. So far, the only CD FD on the market that has the largest capacity is from LG. Even though it has good reviews, we hate the position of the water dispenser. A friend has a similar LG FD SD, and we've used the water dispenser and don't like it. We've seen the new GE PFE29 FD model at homedepot and prefer the ice and water dispenser on it. But that one is a SD, though they will have a CD model out later this year. I share your concerns about having the freezer on the bottom, but most of the time we are in and out of the fridge, which would be on top. The benefit of having the freezer on the bottom is what its full width and would be easier to fit larger items in it than with our current side by side.

The first version of my new kitchen layout needed a CD FD fridge. After much research, I had decided on the KA pro. Now, my layout has changed to being better with a single door bottom-freezer. I chose the KA again. It's sitting in my garage right now awaiting install next month so I can't give it a review. KA is well-regarded here. During my research, my trusted family friend/appliance salesperson told me she does not recommend Elux appliances because of reliability issues. I was planning on the Elux non-icon ovens despite her advice. She said whatever I do, don't buy one of their fridges. Hard to know as many here like their Elux fridges.

Andrew, I have a 3 year old KBFS20EVBL3 that is a shallow cabinet depth model. Not the same as yours, but a KitchenAid with French doors. I, too, did not want water or ice through the door and we wanted an easy clean black flat finish. It also hit a $1800 or 1900 price point I think, which fit in my budget. I like the interior layout, the quality of the inner components and the usable capacity for such a small cubic foot fridge. Nothing on the inside broken yet, which is amazing from 4 abusing boys. If we didn't have a fridge in the garage for beverages it would be a rough go for a family of 6. That said, if I had wood floors, it would have ruined them a hundred times over. The drain line is prone to freezing up, depositing water floor side. I deal with it, and flipped flat on my back one time when not thinking about it as a walked by the fridge in the dark one morning. Also, in my case, it sits out the thickness of the doors beyond the cabinet, maybe 2.5 inches, plus the handle depth, into the room. I would certainly not call it flush, but less obtrusive than the mega depth fridges of today. I also had to have my cabinet altered to make room for its height, it was about two inches taller than my 12 year old Amana 25 cubic ft side by side that crapped out one day. Would I buy again? Maybe, but the leaking can be a pain in the you know what, so if the Electrolux doesn't leak I would go that route. Steve

In the category you're describing (flush counter-depth, tall), have you looked at the Thermador? We have the 30" and its been excellent so far (just two months). The one downside (and it's significant, but I don't know how it compares to the others) is that the produce drawer is WAY too small (too shallow top to bottom - you can't possibly fit a head of lettuce in it).

I went through this last year. So I may be able to help.
But a couple things above are confusing me.

There are many Samsung Refrigerators, many of them are French Door models, and most of them that I see are Without a Water Dispensor.

A quick search gives me
RF197ABPN 18 cu. Ft.
RF217ABRS 20 cu. Ft.
and
RF263AEWP White
RF263AEBP Black
RF263AEPN Platinum color
RF263AERS Stainless
all 26 cu. ft.

and RF266 with AEWP, EABP, AEPN, AERS (as above) all 26 cu.ft.
and RF265 ...

Prices range from $1250 to $1600.

The other thing is "2 evaporators" - i guess you mean 2 condensors, or 2 independent cooling circuits, so the freezer and fridge compartments are separately cooled.

In that case you have almost no options available.
The few that have 2 cooling circuits AND ARE counter_depth_also,
are not French door models.

Unless someone knows of Samsungs with 2 cooling circuits.

Either that, or you have to modify one of these three criteria.

i just found out that Samsung's "Twin Cooling" means 2 evaporators, 2 fans, etc. Good news.

So... Everybody here says "Samsung" but when I looked at their Web site the fridge dimensions were much deeper than counter depth. E.g. davidro1s's second recommended fridge is 33" and some deep.

I do not believe that Samsung makes a counter depth (~ 27 or so with doors) that does not have an external dispenser. I would love to be wrong!

They do have a 18 cu ft which is 28" deep w/o handles. That's deeper than most CDs, and probably too small for when my 3 kids are around (35-50 % of the time). All the other ones are even deeper :(

I beleive most of the freestanding "counter depth models" are in the 28" or more depth category. It looks to me like you have to go to a built in to get a true counter depth. I guess except for the Liebherr. I have not looked at every model but it seems to be a pattern.

The thing I see about the Samsungs is that some of them, at least, require 4" clearance behind the fridge, which pretty much kills the counter depth benefit.

(a 28" deep fridge is close to counter depth when you consider that includes the door, which MUST stick out in order to have room to move, unless you get an integrated fridge.)
