If you do a web search for MS Office key you will get numerous responses to help find the key. If you want to remove the software, Start:Control Panel:Add or Remove Programs, then select the MS Office software to be removed.

If you download, install and run Belarc Advisor it will find the number for you. I would go ahead and install open office before uninstalling ms office to be sure it will correctly handle the files from your employer. Most of the time it will, but there are exceptions. Bill doesn't care if you uninstall ms office but there would be a real problem reinstalling it without the number.

Bob.. tried your suggestion with Belarc. There's a key nunber with MS Works but nothing beside MS Office. Did try the works number and the pop up box told me I'd inserted an invalid number. I don't see any way to ask Belarc a question, am I missing just where I would do this?

Fruitjarfla.. I'll try your suggestion next I just wanted to be sure I wasn't gonna mess up my computer if I was to uninstall MS Office.

Nirsoft has a popular little freeware product key finder...if it had the key used at one time.

Belarc shows the number on my computer. Can't imagine why it doesn't on yours. But if you're sure you want to uninstall just uninstall it from the control panel as Fruitjarfla suggests. It will not mess up your computer.

Bob..On Belarc software licence list there is only MS Works with a key number. MS office isn't listed there. It's listed below under software versions but no product key is listed beside it. This computer was a floor model at Best Buys so I have no idea if Office was ever used for the 3 month trial. I have excel viewer installed and that will open the spread sheets from our employer so maybe I'll just have to leave things alone. I do appreciate all the help. You folks are great.

Go to Google and select the "more" tab and then select Documents. It's a free suite of MS Office like products. Just set up a free account with Google.

Some computers come with a free 30 version of ms office, but I deleted mine rather then pay for it, because if I was going to buy it, I would have gotten a disc in my hand instead of "downloaded version" because I am parnoid that I will lose the number and get it deleted, and not be able to install it. But, I would not make any changes without back up disc of the OS. Is it HP? You can order them from HP if it is less then two years old. I used to have a sony lap top and it came with microsoft money, and games that took like all the memory, so I kept deleting them, but that would make the whole system not work. Things could be different now. I have deleted microsoft office and no problems yet, but I have the back up disc in case. I bought microsoft office, because it was a cheap as microsoft word alone, but it did not work for me. I returned it for a full refund and bought just microsoft word which was all I needed. I don't know if any of this information will help you, but it always better to have recovery discs before doing anything. If you don't have them, you can returnd the computer to somewhere like best buy, and have them reinstall it. But, I have heard horror stories. Even if you pay to have someone else restore it to factory specs, it may or may not work the same.

Tomh.. I checked out google doc's and that's some interesting stuff they've got there. I don't think it would work for my purposes as all I want to do is to open a spreadsheet from our employer concerning our pay periods. I have downloaded excel viewer from MS but when the spreadsheet arrives by email I have to save it to my documents before it willl open. Guess I'll just have to put up with it this way. I would like to get rid of MS Office but sure don't want to mess up my computer plus I'm not sure what removing MS Office would do to Excel viewer..so I guess I'll just leave things alone.

Bug_girl... I had heard or read somewhere removing MS Office could mess up the computer so that's why I asked here. Sounds like you're right and I should just go with things the way they are now. Thanks for your comments. Much appreciated.

Thanks, but I just want to say, this was a long time ago. And since then I have removed my 30 day version of office on my windows vista 32 bit, only because I have back up discs in my hand. If I had not, I would not have removed it. I think that was windows 95 in which you could not remove any microsoft program, even ones you did not want.
So, far it's going ok, so it should be ok for you to remove office. I would just not be completely secure in doing so without back up discs.

Well this is Wxp and my real concern is if I remove MS Office will I still be able to open these pay slip emails from our employer using excel viewer? If anyone knows the answer to that and the answer being yes I can, then I'm more than willing to remove it. Maybe I should check with MS and see if they have the answer. Thanks for your response.

If Teotiki's Office Suite was a trial version installed on the system there is no key and one would be only made available upon purchase of the suite.

Open Office should work just fine. You might have to reset some association defaults with defined Word files.

On my Vista system I currently have Works, the trial version of Office Suite 2007 and Open Office. I just haven't deleted the suite and Works yet as space is not at a premium. Everything works fine and there have been no conflicts.
