OT: Tampa Bay Rays Go To the World Series

This is Off Topic but my local pro baseball team , The Tampa Bay Rays are going to the World Series . They beat the Boston Red Sox tonight in the 7th game of the playoffs 3-1 . They are making history for the team 's first appearance in the World Series play.

Some of you are so mean...she's drunk, dosen't wash her hair, fights with her husband, has stitches, and is ungrateful. Sheesh she was shocked and probably scared with that banshee screaming in her face. And nothing would peeve me off more than a freak screaming at me about how I should feel about my great fortune, like some charity case or something. It's cool to win..but sheesh umm to say it in the worst way possible (what I was thinking while watching STFU woman!) A good hostess would have seen she was overwhelmed; she should have lowered her voice, put her arm around the poor woman and said something about her obviously being in shock instead of continuing to scream in her face. That would have helped the woman calm down and then develop a proper reaction that would make America happy. Normally for programs like this they call the winners and tell them that they're winning a prize in the show so to be prepared, but not that they are winning THE prize. That's how they get the house staged and the correct signatures authorizing the show (ie everyone in the house had to agree it was ok to be on film). The hostess belongs on HGTV. She was unprofessional and obnoxious and very low class, much like the majority of HGTV shows now a days. It was actually hard to watch, painful really. I feel for the poor woman. I'd personally like to help her financially if she needs it but I guarantee, she's getting calls like that every 30 seconds (I banked 4 lottery winners...I know the drill). She's probably now more overwhelmed, and depressed after America's beat the he!! out of her. She deserves a hug and some sound financial counseling, and some time alone (and probably not in the US where we beat people up for not acting like Lauren Lake).

O.T. to Melaska, We're an equal opportunity cheese consumer here--I even seek out and buy Limburger, which is still made in Wisconsin but DH draws the line here. There are a number of very affordable gorganzolas and blues made in Wisc. and Minnesota. Also lots and lots of cheddars in Wisconsin. Wisconsin marketers produce a cheese-beer road trip map that is my guide. I love it. Have hit about a third of the dairies. I can get aged cheddars at Burnett Co Farmer Coop for no more than $7/pound, which has spoiled me. They've worked up some specialties also which we're really enjoying. They do a mail order business. Moozarilla is their yogurt cheese that is very white and gets a lot of comments. Alpha Morning Sun and the Wood River series are nicely done. I'm not sure their parmesan would be up to your standard, but maybe. They've won awards for provolone for a long time and for string cheese. "The Splendid Table" on NPR turned me on to Roth Kase's gruyere from Monroe, WI. Best quality gruyere made in USA. Prairie Breeze, made in Iowa, is also showing up in specialty stores here. A real hit at wine tastings. We send boxes of cheese and wild rice to family in Fairbanks in Priority Mail boxes. No California cheese need apply, despite all their marketing. Despising the wealthy solely because they are wealthy and for no other reason is one of the last socially acceptable prejudices in the United States. Just because someone is vulgar doesn't mean they made their money by illegal, unethical or exploitative methods, and a drug dealer or human trafficker might have exquisite taste. As far as the Victorians go, the Victorian era was a lousy time to be poor or working class in many ways. Poverty was considered a character flaw: if you were impoverished, it was your fault. The lowest level clerk or servant might get no more "salary" than permission to sleep on the floor someplace. A bootboy might not even officially get meals--he might only be allowed to eat off the dirty dinner plates before they were washed. I am not bothered by the price tag, I am bothered by the attitude about it. But Americans seem to be both fascinated and repelled by "other". On another channel, you get your own media attention by being obnoxious white trash.

Make that 3 of us! It was an exciting game. The tickets for Wed. go on sale today down here. Local businesses are tickled pink with the extra revenue coming into the area. The historic Hotel Vinoy in downtown St Pete, housed the Red Sox..90 rooms @ $200 a night!

I'm a National League girl (die hard Cardinals fan), but I was rooting for the Rays, since the Red Sox have won twice in the last few years. Now, I can't decide whether to root for the Rays in the World Series or the Phillies. I guess I have until Wednesday to figure that out. :o)

I understand the Rays' payroll is only one-fifth that of the New York Yankees. Proves that there's more to making a winning team than buying the best talent.

The Rays said they approach the game that they are going to have fun, it is fun for them , not work. When they look at the game as being work that is when they lost games. So they hang out together and they play together . The coach is very laid back and it reflects on the team. They are just big boys enjoying a game of baseball.GO Rays!!!!

3 lowest payrolls - and no bigger shockers here - were the Tampa Bay Devil Rays with $33.1 million, the Washington Nationals with $43.3 million and the Pittsburgh Pirates with $54.4 million.

Biggest Pay rolls.
New York Yankees-$218.3 Million.
Boston Red socks-155.4 Million.

New York Generates 415.6 Million in revenue

It takes more than money , it takes HEART. If the team doesn't have Heart then they play like they don't have it.

You will need a cow bell to ring when the Rays get a hit or score. That is the thing they do at Tropicana Field. It started 4 years ago when one of the owners saw a skit done with cowbells.
The bells are very hot as collectors memorabilia.

One of my long time best friends son was drafted by them (Tampa Bay Devil Rays) right out of school and I think he may still play with them, I don't watch so have not kept up. His name is Travis Schlichting, he was a very good player and a super kid. He may have gone on to some other team by now, I have not talked to his dad in a while.

Congrats on the team doing so well!

Not that anyone was waiting breathlessly for my decision, but I'm sticking with the NL and rooting for the Phillies.
