Lost something on my computer screen - need help getting it back

I had a + and - sign on the upper right corner of my screen - I did something and now it's gone. Don't know what I did. I need it back to enlarge type on some screens because of my eyesight (or lack of it).

I don't even know how it got there but it's been wonderful to have and I use it constantly. Or did until today.

can anyone help?

I have those in firefox but don't see them in Internet Explorer so here are the instructions to get them back in firefox: right click on a blank space on the menu bar (somewhere to the right of help on the top toolbar). On the drop down menu click 'customize'. A dialog box will open up and you will see things you can click and drag to the toolbar of your choice. Scroll down and find the zoom + and left click on it and while holding the mouse button down drag it to the address bar where it used to be (or wherever you want it) then do the same for the zoom -.

By the way Steph, you may want to add the NoSquint add on for firefox. Right click on a page in firefox after you install it and click on 'no squint' in the drop down menu. You can change the size of the print and no squint will remember when you go back again. There are other things you will see that you can do with no squint if you try it.

bboy, the information I provided indicated certain strains of buddleia will survive zone 4. That's not my opinion, it's information about them from those who know. The best advice is always to consult with a reliable local nursery/horticulturalist before purchasing/planting. I disagree with your opinion that fertilizer spikes are an ineffective and expensive way to fertilize buddleia. Possibly where you are? Certainly not here. It depends what you want,I guess. We want - and now have - a 20' tall, full, reliable screen that produces countless deep purple 1-foot-plus-long blooms all season and is also a hummingbird and butterfly magnet. In the wild (without fertilizing) they look weed-like with sparse, small blooms. Considering the fertilizer spikes we use are 20 cents apiece (we use five of them) and we have a 100% privacy screen covered in blooms to block an unsightly yard across the road, I don't feel that is either expensive or ineffective. BTW, we live rurally and the specimens I'm talking about were dug up for free(with the owner's permission) from a lot about to be bulldozed to build a house. They grow wild here and we like to naturalize as much as possible . I wouldn't dream of putting them in my rose garden or other more cultivated areas. As a perimeter screen, they have worked perfectly. I guess what constitutes a "pest" is in the eye of the beholder. Best wishes, Sue

Roselvr, it is interesting that you are so thorough. I often try to email people privately if I think things have been resolved, and that others don't have the same issue. We did take our computer to Circuit City. The Mother Board was dead. Since it was an E Machine, they said that many people only get about 4 years out of an E Machine. We bought the HP computer, and they copied my pictures onto the new computer. My husband disliked the old machine the most because we could not use a CD for pictures, but had to put in that little thing. According to the Techs at Circuit City, there was no evidence of a Virus or anything else harming the computer. I am happy with the new one since it has a larger screen. We did purchase a printer scanner since that is very important to me. Our biggest problem is that our old Router doesn't like Vista, so even though we paid Circuit City to "fix up" the computer so we would just have to plug it in, we now must buy a new router. My computer here at school has XP, and I hope I won't have troubles going back and forth with information. Even if I bought XP, the school would probably upgrade and there would still be a difference. We had them put in Norton's Security with anti virus and anti spy. We had odd things happening to the old computer probably because it was going out. I do appreciate all of the responses I have received from everyone. I am also glad that roselvr brought to my attention the fact that I haven't returned on some questions. Sometimes when it goes to your own computer, and you read the responses, it seems excessive to write back and thank everyone. I will try to be more careful because I am very appreciative, and even if I disagree with a response, I appreciate the time the person has take to respond. The man said he liked the new Norton's and that he also had trouble with them a few years ago. We'll see. Both of them warned me about free programs like Spyware Blaster. They said that in some of those pages that I would not have read, that I agree to allow them to give or sell some of my information to third parties. Frankly I have'nt a clue what I did when I signed up for it. He said I should be very suspicious when I use free programs - not free trials, but free programs. Sammy

When IE7 installs it moves IE6 into the Windows folder and puts IE7 in your Program Files; "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" You might go there and right click iexplore.exe choose properties and see if it shows as IE7 - if so, double click it. Hopefully once started it will take over and continue to work. .... You might go read about System File Checker(support.micosoft.com) and run it... SFC Â /scanonce That will fix corrupt files and drivers and some of their configurations too. One way to repair Internet Explorer and numerious other problems is to reinstall SP2 ... assuming you're on XP. Being how you cant access update.microsoft.com you may have to search for and download xp sp2 at download.microsoft.com.

Bree look on the side panel or top of the case and there should be a sticker there telling you Windows XP is inside and there should be a product key listed too. Was this a new computer? Was it local built? Go to my link below and download the small SIW program. It does not need to be installed, just double click on the exe file and it will run. This will tell you so much about your computer it is amazing. On the first screen click the second choice down on the left side - Operating system. In the new window you will see it tells you if your is XP Pro or Home and if it is full retail or OEM - I suspect OEM but that is fine. This is the top line on my computer, yours would look similar and hopefully say the service pack 2 is installed. Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2 Look further down the right window and record the Product key (not the serial number as that is not so important) for future reference (this is the key that should be on the sticker somewhere on the outside of your case. oh thank you so much - I got them back! I missed them so much today - and they've only been gone about half of the day - lol!

I'm going to copy out your instructions and save to my computer doc folder in case it happens again.

On Win PCs, hold down the Ctrl key while rolling the wheel on your mouse to zoom in and out. Besides most browsers, this works with many other programs, including MS Office.

snidely - thx - I bet that's why sometimes when I roll my mouse around the screen zooms in and out - I never knew why. I bet my cntrl key gets stuck at times. i know a few others do.

time for a new keyboard I know. My son told me that last wk when he visited from out of state. He just shook his head at my keyboard. It's also missing a key or 2... I took some off to clean under them and lost a few... my E has the F12 'key' on it. that one had a piece break off underneath it... yeah, guess I'd better do that yet this wk before I'm caught without any keys that work.

yes keyboards are way too cheap to put up with those kinds of problems LOL

I have given several to the goodwill stores and see them there for just a dollar or 2 nice ones so if you don't want to spend much you can try that route.
Big Lots has some very nice ones for under $10 too.
