KL, Your new kitchen is spectacular. Thank you so much for sharing in such detail. I am thinking I ought to do the same, as I am just at the planning stages of my project. I am wondering how your kitchen is holding up after 8 months. I am considering going with IKEA boxes and semi-handmade in my kitchen reno, but worry about the durability of the Ikea drawers, slides, and hinges. Are you still happy with them? Also I am curious about what cabinet material you chose. I am guessing that SemiHandmade in Flatsawn Walnut is a veneer, right? How is it looking 8 months on? I am trying to make my budget work and am tempted to save on cabinets because it's just such a big ticket item. Are you still happy with your choice? Also, how do you like the FP fridge?

Both my sink and faucet are Kohler- sorry, I don't remember the specific names, but here's a pic to give you an idea. The way I found out that the sink stopper thingy (sorry, plumbing terminology isn't very specific- hope you know what I mean) can impact clearances is the Delta we're planning on putting on the next bathroom- it comes out at an angle. We had to move the faucet to the side because of it. Either that or lose the tile backsplash. If you look at this sink just know it's really made to have a countertop that's flush with the cabinet. Getting a top fabricated with an overhang was a real PIA and expensive. I was lucky to find a granite guy that had the patience and skill to do it. Hindsight- should have changed out sinks to something more like you're looking at. Would have saved me a lot of money in the end. If you go to the manufacturer's websites at the specific faucet and look for the spec sheet, you should be able to find the diagram with the clearances. I'm not saying they're always easy to interpret, but they're there. If your vanity guy doesn't do a lot of things outside the "normal" mold, he might not be comfortable trying to interpret this stuff. I get it. If he gets something wrong, it's on him. And he probably has to rebuild (on his dime) a vanity. No one wins. Maybe you can start picking things out. When you've made choices you think will work together, post them all so people can look at everything. That way you'll have feedback on the final layout, since all decisions can potentially affect how deep the vanity can be. HTH- Lisa

Those reviews on Amazon are from the ignorance is bliss crowd because not one of them measured the actual power consumption with a Kill A Watt meter. Typically, the rated wattages of red and blue E27 spotlights made in China are overrated by 500%. I expect that the true power consumption of that lamp is about 5 watts. Let's say that the actual power consumption is 5 watts. Then 23/5 ~= 5 of those lamps is better than one 23 watt CFL, but, otherwise, no.
