More printer trouble

This is on a Dell Dimension 4700 with 2 GB of Ram and XP The printer is a HP Laser Jet 1000. I had an issue with it in August 2011 and you all got me back on track. See

the help.

Now, about 14 months later a new issue. I was in the middle of a print job on a sizeable document. I always print in about 20 page sessions. And, print one side, and then print the other side of a double sided document. Then, move to the next 20 pages.

I had a paper jam and cleared it during a 20 page segement. When I attempted to restart, the printer kept attemping to feed additional paper even while a sheet was moving through the cycle.

It did not print anything.

I found the old post and reread the suggestions including the one from PK Ponder. I followed those instructions without success.

I removed the software and then re-installed it. A test page printed OK, but when I attempted to print another document I experienced the same issue, no print and repeated attempts to feed more paper.

The printer is about 8 years old. Any suggestions for breathing life back in to this one or is it time to go printer shopping.

If that's what is needed, any recommendations?

I had to go back and read the steps that I recommended :-)

Do you still have print jobs waiting to be printed or have you cleared that out?

If you didn't clear it, you may need to do that. Did you remove the print cartridge when you cleared the paper jam? If not, I suggest turning the printer off, removing the cartridge, checking carefully for any bits of paper left inside the printer and turning the printer back on. We'd like to see a message from the printer advising that the cartridge is missing. Now turn it off and replace the cartridge. The purpose of this is to break the paper feed/no print cycle that your printer seems to be stuck in. My hope is that when you turn the printer back on, the current print job will complete. If that doesn't happen, go ahead and cancel the job. Try printing afterward selectively just to complete the 20 page cycle that was in progress.

Pam,

Thanks for the input. I've tried all suggestions, however, it continues to attempt to load more paper.

It starts trying to load more paper the instant you power it up.

I feel that it can be considered junk at this point. It's too bulky to use as a boat anchor. ;-)

Both your plants look fine. Halophila is a bit droopy even when it's a healthy plant, in the sense that both the vines and the leaves like hanging, not in the negative sense of being sad- or sick-looking. When it's a cutting just starting to grow roots, the drooping will be even more evident because of the temporary dehydration. Give it some elevated humidity, with air flow, and it'll rehydrate - it's an easy plant to root and care for. Is there any reason why the cutting is right by the wall of the cup? Roots will be restricted from growing radially in all directions, which is not optimal. Considering there is only that little root nub, I'd carefully pull it out, poke a hole in the middle of the cup and set it there instead. I do not have the plump leaves on my DS-70s, but it does not look like any sort of health concern for the plant, and it seems like only a few leaves are like that, so I'd just ignore it. Ok, maybe observe it, but out of curiosity more than out of concern.

Check if you have signed out from the other computer first. It shouldn't really be doing that though. I access GW from 2 computers and I have no such issue. Also try deleting the cookies and clearing up the cache of your browser.

Thank you everyone for your comments. Sabalmatt. the ID is much appreciated. I looks like Yuccado is still offering Aechmea distichantha for sale, which they call a 'giant aechmea'. I love bromeliads. If I lived in a year round warm climate I'd have a bunch of them. They say they prefer half day sun which is about what mine gets. Carrie -- you have one! How interesting. It would be nice to be able to plant it outside, perhaps in a somewhat protected spot. It's a handsome plant. Just know those stiff leaves with saw edges will grab your clothes if you get too close. Anyone else grow it?
