Try a power down and power up sequence in this order.
Turn power off to the computers, and the router and modem. leave it for about 5 minutes. power up exactly this way power on the modem let it get fully lit up, power up the router let it get fully lit up, power up the computer.
This will often clear things out and start fresh.

You're setting up an ad hoc connection and not using a router? Otherwise, I don't know why having the desktop on would matter.

Also seems odd that the gateway ip address would appear to be in the DHCP range (110 for the desktop then 111 for the gateway). Do one or the other have a static ip setting?

You can just pull the power cord out of the back of the modem and router no need to crawl around to the outlets. The pc also has a plug up on the back.

No, I don't think so. This looks to be the internal (LAN) ip address, not the external (internet) one.

"Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection"

I believe the resulting data describes the inside IP address that the NIC sees.

You seem to like to Google, try it with ipconfig.

My guess is she doesn't have a router and her isp is maybe sprint who's being bought out by SoftBank in Japan & they dont allow 2 ip's. But its only a guess,, because none here know what she has for a modem/router set up. Or for sure if both computers are showing the same IP.

This deal was announced two weeks ago, it's subject to a litany of approvals (shareholder and governmental) and won't be happening for many months to come.

255.255.255.0 is the network mask for the 192.168.1.0

So usually the default Gateway would be something similar to
192.168.1.0 the router address...

It's nice that novice PC users have a place to get help. Even simple situations can be a struggle for someone with limited experience, we've all been there with one thing or another.

Unfortunately, those seeking help run into many people here who tenaciously hawk their limited (or sometimes, mis-) understandings. These would-be helpers have good intentions, many just don't themselves know enough to be helpful. Yes, a little knowledge is dangerous.

Knowing what you don't know is much more important than any thoughts about what you think you do know.

I personally know what I know, and I don't what I don't. I don't try to impress anyone with my CV or life experiences. Nor do I don't take a condescending or patronizing approach. I may know more than ten members, but there are certainly at least eleven that know more than me. I never want to become "cynical".

My only objection here at the forum is a member's failure to try self-help first. Anyone who has been here for a while knows I promote that. If they have tried without positive results, or don't understand the information they have ferreted out like the cavalry my help, if I can, is on the way.

Not that it means a darn anything, but I've been here since 1998. I've seen people come and people go. Some are missed and some aren't. I myself once had to take a sabbatical as I didn't like the direction the forum was going. It lasted six months. I had had my fill of the members who were trying to take over the forum, a couple of know-it-alls, the members who were thought to walk-on-water, and the rising negative exchanges between these members. So I guess if I was too often made uncomfortable while reading here I might avoid the place.

I haven't been able to get on the internet until today.

When I went to do the power cycle, there were 3 cords attached to the modem and also 3 attached to the Syslink router. I had no idea which one/s to disconnect.

Raven, thanks for mentioning releasing the cords from the modem, router and computer themselves.

Snidely, I don't know if she has a static address or not on her desktop. I believe her provider may be AT&T.

She returned last night. We will call her provider and I will post whatever we learn.

Update. AT&T updated their service from IP4 to IP6 and sent an email to power cycle if you experienced difficulties. How to read that email when there's no connection . . . greater minds than mine can solve that.

The power cycle resolved the conflict. This forum is great.
