safe site for fonts

I wonder if anyone knows of a safe site to download fonts from? I see lots that offer free downloads, but am nervous about picking one at random. Thanks for any/all suggestions.

Take a look at these reviews for dafont.com and see if you are satisfied that it is safe.

kudzu, thank you. I saw a "how to" clip on Youtube that used Dafont. They do have good reviews, but I wonder if bad ones would be deleted?

Easiest way of course is to network the two computers with a switch or router depending on how you connect ... If of course you can use the program download that you have already paid for that is on your Desktop. Or you maybe can, if it has an available, or possible temporary borrow a slot and put a wifi pci card in the desktop then its simple ad/hoc to wireless transfer anything ,,, online prices I often notice are in the $15 area for wifi pci cards. Or try out openoffice.org ,, free alternate to the MS office group of many programs.

DA, I did go to Filehippo and download the QuickTime Alternative. I also checked out Ravencajun's suggests, but the Quicktime site was rather confussing for me. Anyway, the QT Alt. worked perfect!! After I downladed it I scanned the file and then installed it. When I went to the folder where the mov file was and clicked on it, thinking it would ask me what I wanted to open it with, but it didn't even ask....It just opened up in the QT Alt. and played. Again I Thank both of you ((hug))

The link I gave you was to a rating site independent of Dafont, and if you look around that site you will find bad reviews posted for other web sites and businesses, so I wouldn't be concerned that someone is manipulating the ratings. Besides, all you have to do is Google "Dafont ratings" and you'll find additional positive ratings, like those on the respected site WOT in the link below, where Dafont has 56 ratings and all but a couple are "I trust," and where other users appear to disagree with whoever left the unfavorable ratings.

It's up to you whether you want to use them, but, if you want free fonts from any source, at some point you are going to have to trust somebody. If a site has positive reviews from many sources and no bad reports, that generally satisfies me that they are reliable. When I Googled "Dafont scam" I didn't get any hits that caused me to be concerned. In fact what came up first was a link to another site I trust that had a list of free font sites that weren't scams, including Dafont.

With anything I download from a web site, I save it to my desktop and do a virus scan before I use or install it. If you continue to be concerned, maybe you should just buy some font software at a computer store so you don't have to worry about whether you can trust a free or even a pay site.

I didn't know you could buy fonts from a store! Thank you for the suggestion, and for the info about the link to the Dafont review.

You can buy font software in a store or on Amazon, among other places. If I just needed a few fonts, I'd go the free route, because it would be easy to know exactly what I was getting without getting a lot of fonts I'd never use.

If you buy a fontware package it can be pretty cheap, but just make sure you read the Amazon reviews carefully because some of the packs are pretty good and some are badly done. Also, when they tell you you're getting 1000's of fonts, they often count each size of a certain font as a different font, as well as counting the bold and italic versions...so 20,000 fonts could turn out to be 150 different fonts in a bunch of different sizes, etc.

again, thank you! I've never tried to acquire a different font before so I'm really nervous about it. I think, having read your additional info and looking at Dafont a little more closely, I'll probably try getting one from them. Keep your fingers crossed for me!

Good. I'm sure you will be fine. Select a font and download and save it to your Desktop. To be on the safe side, right click on the file and select the option to scan it for viruses. Then, follow the instructions to install it. If you need help with any of these steps, post again. Good luck.
