Lighted pot rack, anyone?

Hi,

I posted about this on the kitchen forum first, but no one responded (and that forum moves alarmingly fast).

I was thinking of a pot rack in the center of my kitchen over the table. However, the electrician said he thinks we need an overhead light in that area, so I wasn't sure what to do. Then someone mentioned that there are pot racks with lights built into them. I saw a few online, but I'm not sure how effective the lights would be. If you have a lot of pots hanging there, would they block the light??

Just wondered if anyone has had one of these and how it worked for you.

Here's mine! It's a 6 light chandelier with removable pot handles that will be placed over the island. I love, love, love Tracy Porter products. It's one of my house splurges. :)

Wow, you and I must be twins! I have the exact same scenario and haven't gotten there yet to see how it will all turn out. My cabinets have not even come in yet. Hope someone will chime in and even show a pic. Ya know though, I really haven't seen many pot racks on this forum. We'll see.

Thank you for making the time to respond, les917, I really appreciate it! I did attempt to contact BH&G (after poking around their site proved fruitless) and also sent an e-mail to the KD (haven't heard back yet). With crossed fingers I'd hoped maybe one of the many design-savvy eyes had come across a pot rack like this. It's actually the pot rack itself I love: the lights are whatever. I love its beefy, traditional style, reminding me of French bistro style (which ordinarily isn't my style but here I think it's totally wow!). I haven't been to the library yet to search the archives to see if maybe the hard copy of the magazine lists resources, but I guess I should get to it .... If I learn anything I'll post back to share. Thanks again!

Don't worry about posting links, we all do it and how the heck else could we weigh in on opinions? That chandelier is beautiful.
I have a chandelier over my kitchen table also. I would not want a pot rack over my table because it would feel too cluttered and busy. I guess I like simplicity around meals. Do you have an island to hang a pot rack?

Try potracksgalore.com. My favs are the Hayley, Bon Appetit, Elana and the Poluet, but honestly, they all are very nice. Not sure of your price range and I haven't compared prices since I was just browsing.

Hi, Owl. I have a lighted pot rack over my island, and it's fantastic. I don't know how to post a picture to this forum, but my pot rack has six candle-type lights around the perimeter, and also has two halogen downlights. I have a few pots hanging on it, and they don't block the light. I think that the halogen downlights are essential - the six candles alone wouldn't be enough light without them, and probably the pots would cast shadows if the downlights weren't there. I just seen one of these tonight at HD ......... and it was in the clearance area. Was $299 and down to $200. Very nice!!! Not sure if they have them on there web site, but give it a try. BTW I live in Saskatchewan Canada so try the www.homedepot.ca site.

Owl, I'm not sure about the pot rack but I checked out your blog and wanted to say it's looking great.

In your kitchen did you say that the side with the fridge that isn't pictured will have no upper cabinets? Do you have a drawing of what you plan that to look like?

Thanks for the comments, guys. I have pretty much decided to go with a regular pot rack and just have a couple of can lights installed, maybe one on either side of the rack. I am shopping on potracksgalore right now (Thanks, eventhecatisaboy), and I think I'm going to go with a basic rectangular stainless steel rack with also a small wall bar above my stove for utensils.

Alicia, thanks for the comments! I don't really have a drawing of the cabinets, but I think that wall will look OK. We just couldn't figure out what to do there because there wasn't room for anything to come down on either side of the window, so it was going to look weird. We're thinking of putting some open shelving over the window just to kind of balance out the other wall of cabs. We're just working it out as we go along.

Thanks Owl, we're planning to work it out as we go too I guess. One of our problems is that above the fridge I need a cabinet to hide the upstairs plumbing (our ceiling is exposed beams) I'm worried that cabinet will make the room look lopsided if there are no uppers on the other side.
