Hi everyone, I was unable to post because I couldn't log in. Apparently the cookie that it takes to get here was not there, so I emailed the forum and when I got back home walla I was able to log in and here I am. "Smiles" To answer the question is Auslogics an antivirus or a defrag program. It is a defrag program and is not an antivirus. I didn't know they had an antivirus. "LOL" I listened to the same thing you did about Norton and it definately has something in it which appears to be a firewall because it blocks things out and protects you like a firewall. I think the reason they made sure that the Windows firewall is on is because they aren't sure themselves. When I access a program Norton pops up and tells me it is safe to run. It happened earlier today but I can't remember what it was I was doing. I was in a hurry to do some things on this computer that I know they didn't do. I am a little nervous about CCleaner and I called them and one of the guys told me to take the check marks out of advanced so I did. I have never used CCleaner and it would be nice if I had more information on it. Can you all explain this program to me and what to look for, so that I won't delete something and my computer won't go boom? "LOL" Owbist you said this: I am amazed that someone as knowledgeable as yourself and willing to learn about computers would actually pay to have the computer cleaned or replace the CD player. If cleaning means removing dust a $3 can of compressed air fixes that pronto. If cleaning means removing programs (including those you wanted kept) then the simple Add/Remove feature does that for you. Replacing a CD player is a simple task also, even for those who have not tried before. You simply remove the old and reverse the sequence to install the new. The only reason that I took the computer in was because I have my grandchildren around 3 days a week and sometimes a little more because they love us. Ha! It is difficult for me to have the time to play by trying to install something and little ones that are 3 and 8 years of age want to play on the computer not watch me fix it. "LOL" Now when I got this computer back, it was running slow again and instead of calling them I did a scan disk and used Auslogics Defrag and walla it is running like a charm. I think they got lazy and didn't do it. I really like the Auslogics Defrag it is so fast and puts things back where they belong. They did check the hard drive to see if it was Ok and it is. This computer is going on 6 years old and I guess I haven't done to bad after all my very first computer I crashed several times but, that was ages ago. Remember the first packard bell computers? I had the 3.1 and then they sent me the CD for Windows 95. Well I learned fast that you can't put old on top of new because then it would crash. I still have that old computer and I need to get rid of it, I never get on it at all, it is just sitting there collecting dust. Ha! After getting angry with McAfee's products some years ago, I made the rounds of free versions for several years. It seemed I only got "hit" by evil things when clicking through to something from a Google search, they do little or no screening of the links they provide. Most of the time the attacking things weren't too difficult to get rid of and caused no significant problems. A few times I had to go through some agony to return the PC to normal service. A few years ago I decided to come out of my cave and try a paid product again. I went with Norton, and I''ll never go back. The current Norton suite is the most effective, unobtrusive, and easy protection product I've ever used, in 20+ years of PC experience. No product I used (and I went through most of the free things) compares favorably. It blocks attacks real time, period. NO problems. No cleanup required, it doesn't allow enemy planes to land. My experience is simply one person's anecdote, I know that the reputable reviewers (like CNET) will say there is more equality among products, but I haven't found that as a user. Some of the free ones (was one of them Avira) have really obnoxious and intrusive periodic messages. Another time, AVG decided to quarantine a key Windows file, and doing so completely disabled the PC, it required a reformat/reinstall the operating system. Anyhow, I'm a happy Norton user, and I consider the annual fee to be a cheap route to easy use and peace of mind.

Hello, this range is free standing but looks like a slide in. It has controls in the front and no panel in the back. It fits flush to the wall. The glass cooktop (electric version) slides over the counter so there are no gaps between the sides of the range and the cabinets/counter. There are metal edges on the sides of the front that ride over the countertop edges. Previously, I'd seen information on the Bosch site about "notching" the countertops so the metal edges would fit properly and the range would fit flush against the wall. This would be particularly necessary if the edge of the counter were squared off. I saw an installation against a beveled edge and no notching was necessary. I don't want to notch because if for some reason the range needed to be replaced with another brand, I'd end up with a permanently modified counter. I plan to use a 3/4 rounded edge (bullnose?). I can no longer find information on the site referring to the notching and, in fact, there's a picture on the web site showing the range installed against a counter with a squared off edge. So, my questions are: 1) Have any of you used this range with a 3/4 rounded edge? If so, did you need to notch the countertop? 2) Is it possible that they changed the design and that the new items do not require notching, thus no mention on the web site? Thanks in advance.

Well, Snooks, it seems that you and I have differing interpretations as to the meaning of "ending," To me, a "series of books" means that there are anywhere from 2-50 (or more!) books, written by the same author, with the same main character, and some secondary characters that appear in more than one of the books. HOWEVER, the main storyline/plot of each book in the series can stand on its own. If you read more books in the series, you may find out that the main character finally marries, gets a dog, has kids, etc., but those details do not hold hostage the main storyline/plot of any single book in the series. Michael Connolly's Harry Bosch books are a good example. Harry Bosch is a homicide detective in Los Angeles. Each book is about one murder that gets solved. Through the series of books (which, by the way, are excellent and some of my favorite books), Harry has different partners, different girlfriends, etc., but each murder mystery stands on its own. Yes, when you're done reading one you want/hope there's another because they're so damn good, but if there's not another one, it doesn't detract from the story of the one you've just read and you aren't missing anything by not reading the next book if there is one. The Lincoln Lawyer, also by Michael Connolly (and made into a movie starring Matthew McConaughey), and its subsequent books tie in from time to time because Mickey Haller and Harry Bosch are half brothers. But when one character appears in a book that is part of the other character's series, there is enough explanation of "back story" that you don't need to have read the other book(s). A serial, on the other hand, is different. For those, you do need to keep going to the next, then the next, then the next, etc., until the main storyline/plot comes to a conclusion. Television shows (soap operas, Survivor, and Murder in the First - especially the first season of MITF) are like that, and comics are like that, but I personally am not aware of books that are like that. I'm not saying there aren't any, but I am not aware of them, and they certainly aren't the norm. I read close to 350 books a year, so if serial books were common, I'd be more aware of them. Then, of course, there are books that were originally written with the author not having any particular intention to write a follow-up. Oh, the author may certainly be thinking that s/he would like to become a serious, wealthy author of many books, but when writing his/her first book, there was no thought to a sequel to that particular story. Or maybe the author is planning another book, but doesn't mention it publicly. (When you read a synopsis of the storyline to determine whether or not you might be interested, there is no mention of the book being the first in a series.) The Mill River Recluse by Darcie Chan is an example. I bought this book in Kindle format in July 2011 (it had been published in May 2011) for $0.99. Great book. Even after I was done reading it, there was no mention of a second book. Then, in August 2014, Ms. Chan published a follow-up book entitled The Mill River Redemption. Did I have to buy it to find out the ending to the first book? No, of course not -- the first book was done, and the second book has a totally different storyline. But, I did buy the second book (for $5.99) because I had so enjoyed the first. A year later, another Mill River book was published -- The Promise of Home: A Mill River Novel, also $5.99 in Kindle format. I bought it because I had thoroughly enjoyed the first two and knew I'd also enjoy the third. But, let's take the Mill River books as example of what Pawprint is talking about. Let's say that in July of 2011 when I got the original book, The Mill River Recluse, I downloaded it to my Kindle, but didn't get around to reading it for quite a while because, like Pawprint, I have more than 2,000 Kindle books. So, I finally decide it's time to read The Mill River Recluse -- and it's January of 2015. When I get done reading the book, I discover that there is a second book, entitled The Mill River Redemption. Was there trickery involved? Of course not. But you would say that there was. I very much prefer to be me.
