Carrara Subway Tile Grout Joint Size???
Comments (1)We put down polished marble basket weave on our bathroom floor and our stone dealer warned us to use unsanded grout because sanded grout would scratch the marble. Can't help with the spacing, except to keep it narrow enough to use with unsanded grout. I'm sure others will chime in with help....See MorePorcelain "Carrara marble" look-alike tile?
Comments (51)Do you have a sample of the Silestone Lagoon to look at with your tile. I think you are right that it might look slightly off but it's hard to know with out seeing it in person. I also think it might be difficult to find a solid white countertop that will play well with both the white in the tile and your white countertops. Maybe you should concierge a light to medium tone gray countertop. It will provide a little contrast and keep your room from looking too white (unless that is the look you want). I think it would look better not to have too much movement in the countertop since the porcelain carrara tile has lots of movement. I posted a picture earlier in this thread showing the Carrara look alike tile my daughter used in her bathroom. She opted for light gray cabinets and initially wanted a white countertop. She shopped remnants for her countertop and was not able to find something that didn't "look slightly off". She ended up using a black quartz that had some lighter speckles in it. She thought it looked better than a solid color. Perhaps you could find a grey with some flecks of dark grey, black or white in it. I've posted many pics of my daughter's bathroom on this forum but here's a few shots for you so you can see how contrasting colors work Since you probably don't want to go with black, maybe something like Silestones Ocean Jasper Or Moonstone Would work for you. If your not limited to Silestone Cambria has some options that might work too. Snowdown White Greystone Good look with your search for the right countertop....See MoreFinished bathroom - classic carrara and subway tile
Comments (66)I love your bathroom, esp the basket weave tile and the marble vanity top. It looks like our MBR are about the same size. We just finished doing some work in our bathroom. We got a new porcelain tile floor, ceramic shelves in our shower, wood linen closet in our dressing area, toilet, etc. Our sliding shower door is 23 yrs old and I am thinking about installing a new hinged frameless door in its place. Our opening is 45" wide. Since it has been over one yr since you installed yrs, what do you think about it now? Has it ever leaked? How much $ did it cost? I was quoted $1200.00 for a Basco Door. That seems very expensive to me. Please forgive me for asking about the cost. I'm trying to find out what is reasonable. I live outside of Cinti OH. I want a big door, and the guy at Lowes said that it would have to be custom ordered. He said that the biggest that I could get was 33. How big is your door?Would you install a frameless hinged door again if you could do it all over again? Sorry for the barrage of questions. Thanks so much for your help. FYI for everyone who is considering a bathroom remodel: get the best tile guy you can. Pay extra for him. We uncovered damage and he knew exactly what to do to fix things correctly. The time and effort that he put into our job to get everything just right was wonderful to see. It turned out beautifully. Thanks so much Brandon Berryman - Tile Installer!...See MoreCarrara Marble (Tile Shop) vs. Grecian Marble (Home Depot)
Comments (10)We used quite a bit of the grecian marble (incorrectly spelled greecian on the Home Depot website if you are searching for it). We used 12x12s that we cut into 6x12 bricks, 3x6 that we used in one bath as a herringbone pattern and one bath installed in a subway pattern, 6x6, chair rail and the 1x1 hex on the floor. In one shower we installed the Homedepot river rock/pebble mesh mosaic on the floor. We installed the tile in Feb/March so its been up for almost a year and it looks great. There is, however, a great variation in color. It is not a pure white. Some tiles are almost all gray and some have quite a bit of brown in them. Our installer was fantastic at pulling the out and arranging them so that the colors are scattered. We like the color disparity and movement but that's personal preference. Just don't expect a pure white. We did find several boxes that contained noticably thinner tiles (mostly with the 3x6 tiles). We simply packed these back up (save the little boxes it comes in)and returned them to Home Depot. This is a stocked item at our HD so it was easy to get if we needed more and easy to return. The hex mosaic tile was an online only item and we had a HUGE problem getting it delivered. It was through a freight company and they kept promising it and it wouldn't arrive. This could be just an issue in our area (Cincinnati) but it held us up for about a week. (It arrived two weeks later than promised). If I can figure out how I will post pictures as I think the bathrooms turned out great! No extra maintenance. Just sealed it. We were cautioned by the installer about rust which is impossible to remove from marble (often things like shaving cream cans are still metal and can rust). I'm sure newhomeowner is finished with the project but thought I'd throw in my 2 cents for anyone considering the grecian marble....See More- 15 years ago
