ARG! aol.....the techs havent fixed it, can you help?

I recently purchased a new vista and aol ready computer. Had aol previously but wanted to start with a new screen name and account instead of the old account. (Mainly because old screen name was in all caps and way long) From the very start at the welcome screen aol would not accept my screenname and password. I can log onto aol but cant access my preferences, keyword, account etc.

Ive talked to the techs several times, my password has been reset a kazillion times. They say it could be their problem and to keep trying. Ive learned about password stealers but I feel this isnt an issue scince it started from initial set up. Here are some of my questions:

I notice my sign on has my screen name in lower caps while my mail and welcome have everything in all caps like the last time I had aol....is something wrong here?

Can I uninstall aol and reinstall even when it came already on my computer? How? What if I already have it installed more than once...how do I find that out? THe initial installation was stopped (because they realized I had an old account) and restarted...could this have caused the confusion?

Thanks for helping this novice!

"From the very start at the welcome screen aol would not accept my screenname and password. I can log onto aol but cant access my preferences, keyword, account etc."

Can you or can't you access AOL?
I could give you directions for AOL Quick Restore but for now I will give you a link to AOL Forum. Click on New Thread to
Post a message for help.
Save the location to your Favorites for quick access to go back their.
Copy and Paste in your search area using AOL not IE or Firefox.
http://messageboards.aol.com/aol/en_us/articles.php?boardId=544550&func=3&channel=Computers & Electronics&refresh=true
This takes you to A Helping Hand.

If you want AOL Quick Restore post back. It will require a
working password.

When installing Aol, If you have ever used Aol, you must alway use your original account info. As for it being Caps or small, it matters not. The only time it matters about Caps is if it is your Password. Because when you use Caps for a password they are recorded in that manner. As for not wanting to use your old screen name. Just add another screen name . Aol allows you to have seven screen names. When I first got Aol they assigned it to my real name. I did not want my name spread across the world, so I just quit using that account,It sits idle after a while.

As for uninstalling all of Aol, Yes it can be done. But it will make no difference as to what name you have to use. You must reinstall it with your original account name. Then just make the change to the name you want to use, ( In Settings) at the top of your Aol screen. If you still want to uninstall Aol Let me know. I can help you with this as, it is no easy task. Aol is every where in your computer. Good Luck Dian

Genes, no, I don't use hibernation or sleep or stand by. Let me run this thought through y'all. About the time the computer decided it didn't want to do internet, we had Comcast to come out to check why we got nothing but tiles. While he was here, he took note that we have five TV's and was using several splitters. He unhooked/uninstalled one of the tvs and it got rid of the tiles. Could the splitters have anything to do with this problem? What is such a riddle to me is, why does one computer work on the Ethernet and the other one will not? Hmmmmmm? I've had another AT&T technician back to the house and he found nothing and I took it back to the computer guy and they, again, found nothing. The AT&T guy did suggest hooking up a router and using that. What's the general thought on that idea?

compressor not level. Problem? Tech coming today for check up

Hi Mike, AC set at 72 though I'd be comfortable with it higher. I want it to run to take out humidity. It was set at 75 and room temp was 75 at 12:30 when I got home. I turned it down to 72. The stat is reading 74 temp while still set at 72 so it's running. The room with my weather station says its 73.3 and 55%, so it dropped about 2 degrees in 3 hours. The compressor should be in the full sun by now if that makes a difference. It does feel like a cooler 72-73 when the humidity is lower. Indoor Humidity was in the low 60's this morning. Apparently on these hot days it is running quite long to get down to set temp. I think I got % down to low 50's one day this week. I'm thinking now maybe the problem is my basement causing the humidity to rise when the ac isn't running. Today Basement is at 67%, temp about 67 also. unfinished, one supply that is blocked off with cover and tape, no returns. The basement was up to 75% sometimes last week (wet week). I've never had wet walls or water in the basement. No mold, no sweating ductwork. Still haven't found out which wire is my low ac, but I assume it's running on hi-stage with the temps outside. I don't understand when it goes to low from high. I assume it started in high when I turned it down from 75 to 72, but when will it bump to low stage? Or does the outside temp make it stay in high? The fact that it has been running long on theses hot hot days and takes a long time to get down to 73 makes me think maybe it is NOT that oversized (but maybe just a little or it wouldn't get that low at all)? Last year when we were hitting the 99's for several days I had trouble getting the old unit down to 78. It wasn't comfortable at 78 .

Take a good look at duluthinbloomz helpful entry. This is a good example why I ask questions like this here rather than the Computer Forum. There I would have likely had someone say "check your volume control!" She -- explained exactly where to find the volume control and how to handle it ---- That is my kind of language! I love asking help from people who speak the same language and at the same speed! LOL BTW -- If help didn't come here, I would have had to go to the Computer Help Forum -- but always here first! Thanks everyone! Don't you just wonder if there will ever be a time of not needing those "Dah!" type reminders!

Color coordination...arg!

Jessrae, Okay, which question to answer first! :) When I looked at your pictures, what struck me is that you have are a light color and dark colors but nothing in between. And your light color doesn't look like it has enough umph to offset your darks. Your tile square selection to me looks too similar to your cabinet color tho it does work well with your countertop color. If you are committed to these backsplash tiles already, then I would do a paint color that is either opposite on the color wheel, something in greens, or pick a paint color that is in the same family as your cabinets like deep mauve or something in the red violet family or possibly a very warm brown that is in the same tonal range as your cabinets or countertops but is a few steps up from white. I actually like your floor sample. Will help to hide dirt! ;) But since that will be a large visual part of your kitchen I would look to bringing in another color, say a green, to help break up the browns and white you have so far. Pick your paint color possibilities and put them on the wall so you can see them in your light. It is amazing what a difference light makes! And yes, most of us stress about all of this for all of the same reasons. If you haven't heard from anyone else, try doing a bump or second request to your email, so that other TKO designers can see it. The forum seems to be moving fast this week!

Cboy,

I can sign on to aol on the initial sign on screen with no problem. I am connected and I can surf web pages. What aol is not letting me do is go into help, keyword, my preferences, my account. It asks me for my password and then does not accept it. It will not accept my password to add any new screen names. I can basically only surf the web and retrieve my mail. I can not change anything in mail.

I have done the aol quick restore with the aol techs. NO USE.

I have posted on the forum and got no responses.

When I opened up my aol account after not having it for more than 6 monthes I asked the guy about a new screen name and password and he allowed me to do so. He told me that when I went back to the start up that everything was very case sensitive and to make sure I put in exactly what he told me which is what I thought I did.

I cannot add another screen name or go into settings because they are not accepting my password. Believe me I have tried a zillion different ways, a zillion different times. It does not accept the password or screen names for the last time I had an account.

Im screwed. I dont want to get rid of aol but I want to do more than just surf the web and get mail. I cant add signatures...I cant sign onto anything else but the original sign on screen.

Call them up and say, I'm quitting now if you can't fix
this problem. Sometimes that's the only way to get help.
You will need to go to Tech Support and have someone you
can understand.

When you uninstall you don't really lose all of your AOL
Files. Errors that are in the AOL files can and do sometimes
stay and keep causing problems. When I have a problem that I
can't get rid of I do this.

Right click AOL - properties - Find Target - Select All -
Delete. (Be careful that you delete all files before leaving
because you won't be able to come back.)
Go to Control Panel - Add and Remove - Uninstall any AOL files their.
Delete all AOL Icons.
Use CCleaner for Clean and also the Registry. Save the Backup.
It would also be a good idea to make a Registry Backup.
I than use an AOL CD to Reinstall AOL.
I have Windows XP Home Edition.
Use the above only if all else fails.
I'm not sure what will happen to your PFC Files.
To be safe use Saved on AOL in Manage mail.

Registry Backup.
Start - run - type regedit - OK
Open file at the left top - click export - Go to my documents - For Save type - Backup - Save.
To use your Registry Backup.
Start - run - type regedit - OK
Open File - Import - right click your Registry Backup - Click Merge.
Don't be moving it to a different location. This can cause
difficulty in getting it to work.
